- On display at the 2016 Portland Tri-State Gas Engine Show in Portland, Indiana were 5 running "Lightning Balanced Engines" built by the Kansas City Hay Press Co. There are only 9 surviving engines known and as you can see in the video this engine had a very unusual and unique design! Of the 9 surviving engines, only 7 are complete and running. The owners that brought their engines to Portland were Mike Paich, Marv Hedberg, Ed Laginess, and Tommy Turner. One of the engines is owned by the Butterfield Threshermen's Association in Butterfield, Minnesota and was also brought by Marv Hedberg to show. This is probably the only time one could see this many running K.C. Lightning in one spot!
Kudos to the videographer. I appreciate the filming of the interpretive information sheets on the various displayed engines. I could stop the video and easily read each information sheet.

Thanks Craig for a wonderful documentary on these extremely interesting engines. This video is so special having so many known operating examples to study with fantastic detail shots. Great job and well done. Thank you! Lester Bowman.
