+Sym Gardiner yep all electronics are B&G, basically the same as on our 39 last year. We didn't have any problems on both, except for the remote control of the autopilot on the 52 which is draining its batteries in 2 days. Didn't have that issue on the 39 so hope it will be replaced under warranty soon
B&G doesn't tell you if the vessel will pass ahead or astern of your vessel, but it does (I think) have a time and distance to collision, and the way these vary does indicate if you will hit or miss. But as you were sailing you are the stand on vessel and the container ship should have altered course if they thought there was a risk of collision being the give way vessel.
it would be a B&G great limitation . i read it calculates a relative course of 181. is there any way to plot that vector on screen with the container ship as origin? that vector prolongation would tell you if the contact would pass ahead, astern, or over (better not!) Great Circle.
Neither do I. Never used those integrated systems. but any radar screen worth its name would provide switching between absolute and relative vectors for the contacts. if you can adjust their lenght, that would let you know at a glance not only CPA, but also if contact will pass ahead or astern and crossing distance. the lenght of vector will tell time to go. i would be astonished if B&G lacks those visual aids!
don't rely on AIS for close CPAs: their calculation is based on contact GPS pos, and her couse and sped fed into system (from their Gps or from gyro/log) and your own position and parameters. Posibility of errors adding up. Nothing as watching the radar contact relative movement on radar, with own ship as center! I always keep my radar screen with own ship as center, and relative motion for contacts, with ocassional glimpse to true/absolute motion. colissions are product of relative motions of vessels! :) the +/- could be misleading to some as in some systems it could also mean a CPA already passed!
i am very interested in you blog, even in Dutch! while i see my future most likely on a 450, may be the new L50 (rumour is that, no matter the name, she will be a 48 feet) i have not discarded the L52, and i am very interested in your experiences with the boat with just 2 as crew. AFAIK never got the Facebook invitation. May be my fault as i am not very familiar with FB. Thanks in advance, and grateful for your videos,
+Pepe Taba yep you're right regarding the 50, lagoon seems to copy the "naming convention" of other vendors. The length won't be a lot more than the 450 but I expect the new concept will have much more space. Did you send an email to catgreatcircle@gmail.com for Facebook and/or blog?
Very special video you guys !! Loved the sophisticated music. Keep them coming. Thanks . Richard

That was awesome. One of your best 🤗 thanks for sharing guys and best from Hong Kong 🇭🇰
As usually a beautiful video. Well done
Hi
Are all your electronics B & G? Do you like them? Are there any issues that you have discovered?

Thanks. I am looking at options for refitting a Lagoon 440. I like what I see with the B & G gear but nothing beats hearing first hand experience. :)

Don't know. I have only used B&G plotter for a few days, and it had a software fault! It lost our complete log reading..... Sorry.

+Pepe Taba good suggestion, will have a look at the radar function (although a plus or minus at CPA would do the job as well...)

No I didn't.
Will do!
