  • In the southern part of Tuscany in the Maremma area, close to the Mediterranean Sea you will find the red wine of the morellino grape. Not at all as famous as close by Chianti but very interesting to catch up with for winelovers.
Travelling by car inland, its not more than 30 km from the main road that follows the shore of the Sea from Rome to Pisa. Make a right turn by Motalto di Castro and follow the road all the way to the small village of Scansano. Standing by the Church you can see all the way to the Sea.
In the film, Sergio Bucci, CEO of Cantina Vignailo di Scansano, is presenting the region, the DOCG and the work of the 170 members
Here the vineyards benefit from the breeze, and are rarely affected with fungus disease and if so would be its more likely that the 170 grovers of Cantina Vignaioli Scansano are ahead of the disease (they work with high tech like drones and weather monitors) and can prevent, or be ahead of, damages. This actually means that they use less pesticides.
All the vineyards of the Cantina are managed sustainable and in the future, with more knowledge and experience the goal is to go more organic.
Main grape variety is morellino, the local name of sangiovese. The main wine is a vintage, sold the year after and named DOCG Morellino di Scansano. With the addition of Riserva - the wine has had additional 2 years of aging.
Charachteristics: rubyred colour. Fresch nose, of cherries and red berries. On the palate the wine is fresh, fruity and savory. Add some pleasant tannins. With Riserva quality the taste is more concentrated.
