Going back to a gear drive after running a belt. Never again will I run a belt. Ran a gear drive for MANY MANY years, never an issue. Switched to belt, belt broke, cost me thousands in repairs.....And LOTS of misinformation out there about gear drives.....
Because most videos doing comparison dynos are by companies similar to the old magazines that sold the parts in advertisements. Showing people to spend $50 on chains and change the part every couple years is more power. Once the chain starts to stretch then change it again. SBC - easy job. Engines like my 6.5 GM diesel in Hummer- serious work. The videos also would show the noise involved, which will cost sales. Follow the dollar to solve your questions…
So, I after listening I was sold, I had a Pete Jackson style and am a Hobbyist with some extra cash so I bought one. Let me start by saying unless you are a sponsored drag racer who must crank out that extra tenth of a second these things are expensive for that reason. Also, they are just as noisy as the floating 4 gear set ups and more of a pain in the ass to install. The back yard street mechanic can do it but it’s lots of extra work for that tenth of a second. Also if you are a hobbyist Hot Rodder then the blind install can be confusing. The system doesn’t have any basic timing marks to set it. I watched you tube after you tube trying to get a starting point. As much as it was explained you had to get a degree wheel and exact TDC by breaking out your dial indicator. Milodon make me think their mark up must be minimal because they make a dvd showing the install but you have to pay about twenty five dollars to get more than the two pages of paper instructions. My only recommendation to Milodon is put a basic zero timing mark on the parts for the first timers like me and then add in the dial indicator concept to degree the advance or retard of the cam. Honestly, after all these years of sales just throw into any purchase a free online download of the install DVD. Also, these have been around for a long time and for the street Rodders I would make a set with spiral gears to cut out the whine, we are now 60 years from its invention and the largest improvement could have been sound reduction. Finally, if you are a Street Rodder with spare cash like me doing an in car install, don’t pull your old gears until you are at TDC number one firing order with your old gear set or chain lined up on zero marks. Also, don’t move it until you are ready to degree the new gear set. If you are doing a cam swap slide the new one into the same position of rotation as the old one being removed. Remember the operative words are “blind set up” which incidentally if not done right translates to bent valves! LOL or maybe it’s not LOL!
Can you line up cam and crank with the marks on a timing chain gear set and not move them while trying to slip in the Milodon gears? I know it sounds easy buy...
@@jimpanzer07 Yes but nothing can move and you will be pulling the gear on and off and until the bolts line up. But the real bonus to the gear set is being able to advance or retard the cam for the purpose you need and that’s where the degree wheel comes into play.
No LS gear drive unfortunately. GM put a large boss on the block right were the idler gear would be placed. We are still looking at it but it will not be easy.
Anyone who doubts the durability of gear drive should know that diesels have been using it for decades.

I have one of these on a high compression sbc solid roller motor.
I'm sorry ... Noisy Pete or bust.
i cannot find a video showing dyno results that gear drives rob horsepower over a double roller chain.

I know a Steve Morris he builds race engines
But do they make it for LS?

@@Barrelhorse1000 which is why I will NEVER build an LS ...
Its decades on the market..but nowhere is a video how to setup this thing...i mean..setup advanced or retard,,not just zero
