I was amazed how two African ladies and that girl from Brazil have intuitively corrected wrong spelling accumulated before them.
I'm brazilian and I can say we have all of this songs, like " Spra, Cra, Ix, Isss, Tra,".... So for us is easy to pronunce this words
I didn't see anybody correcting anyone (only the German girl pronounced it correct or close as a non-Slav). It's credit to the Russians who could still understand the word even when butchered.

Indonesian is the easiest language in the world, so any foreign language seems hard, it's just a case of building confidence.
@Dave_Chan Do you have same problems as the Chinese? I see Chinese participants struggling the most. At least Indonesians can still pronounce it close even when they are struggling. The Chinese totally change it to a different word.
@ashrafulanam7882yes, chinese is difficult depend on the ethnic, indonesia have many ethnic,, for some chinese descent, it will easy to understand and say chinese word because they lear it from kids, but for me "jawa" ethnic, its very difficul to understand chinese,, because from kids i not learn or speak chinese language but grow with "Jawa Language" and "arabic language",
@bijin_kaibutsum yes it turns out to be very very easy compared to others, it uses the same alphabet as english with no specific symbol (for tone/length of the pronunciation. the language doesn’t have tone even past tense or complex tenses. it’s just active and passive (with verb 3) sentence. every word sounds exactly how it is written, maybe 95% of the words sound exactly like how it is written
Russian is a very resilient language.
You can mess up many words pretty badly and still be understood.

Maybe a bit but mostly we can just mimic Russian quite well but a lot of phonetics and accents are quite different, especially how you read your vowels

It was interesting to see this sudden "recovery" of words in the middle, mostly by South African and Brazilian.
After them, the normality was restored. Especially after Brazil.
So a Portuguese speaker can fix previously broken Russian words to sound "normal" again. :D
It's because of Ana. She knows a lot of languages and is really good with accents.

@machjiffy4710 It's not only that. I think almost any Portuguese speaker could do this without noticing. It's because most of the pronunciation in Russian and Portuguese is basically the same. Phonetically, the two languages are very similar. That's why many people think a Portuguese speaker sounds like a Russian speaker, as we can see in the videos on this channel over the years.
There are other strange match-ups like this in the world. A Cantonese speaker will be able to fix dialect words in Australian English, they know how to pronounce all our vowels. I've also heard that Turkish and Norwegian (despite the different phonetics) are good at mimicking eachother's language. And Doric Scots speakers have a nearly flawless Dutch accent.

I guess it's common for Russian in general, mostly our words are extremely complicated, and because of that they're pretty unique most of the time and easy to guess by hearing just the melodic part, even if stress or neuances are wrong.

There even words related to Russian words via indo-european-Sanskit connection or word of Arabic or Turkic origin that came to Indonesia through Islam and trade of continental merchants and are borrowed in Russian through the same route, merchnts or Islam.

Interesting fact: Russian (and ovbviously Polish) word "flomaster" comes from the American brand "Flo-Master". It's quite common for a brand names in foreign language to become a household names in Russian. For example, "copier" in Russian is "Xerox," and "diapers" is "Pampers".

It's because Portuguese came from Galego(Galicia, Spain) and that from Celtic ones( Irish is Gaeilge). The Celts are the Slavs and the Germans, too. Forget about official science, they either lie or just ignorant.

I think the participants should be very proud of how they did, this is like a boss level of this game. I feel like Ana having some of those sounds in Portuguese helped recover some of those words to a certain extent.

The same vice versa, in Slavic challenges people usually say that Polish is hardest, but for me, as native Russian speaker, who learned a little bit of Polish and Serbian, Polish seems much more understandable than any other Slavic except for Ukranian and Belarusian, yeah, we have different pronounciation, and lot's of difrences in volcabulary, still the grammar is extremely close and basic logic in the language is the same. Love to Poland and beatiful Polish language ❤❤

Потому, что португальский произошёл от галисийского, а тот от кельтских. А кельты - славяне. Множество схожих особенностей. О португальцах слышал, что фонетика и слова много схожих, ( впрочем как и в английском), возможно что-то ещё, из-за чего иностранцы путают русскую и португальскую речь - общеизвестный факт. А кельтские языки ещё ближе к русскому из-за грамматики: конструктор, имеют несколько способов построения предложений ( хоть и не такой свободы как у нас), падежи, мягкие согласные, схожие слова с тем же значением( есть и не схожим) и т.д.

Милан - так вообще в смысле своем по значению близок к словенской семантике при произнесении названия города. В принципе инфо о городе в открытом доступе, это кельтский город. Там и кремли новгородские стоят, в общем нам еще предстоит узнать много нового, чего нам недоговаривали или привирали. И не факт, что русский (старорусский как общеславянский) - это не есть изначальный язык кельтов. Предположим, что были «послы от венедов» которые прибыли для развития земель и племен их населяющих, притащили свои технологии, ресурсы, возможно захватили трудовые силы других племен подобранных по пути, и чтобы развить аборигенов начали обучать языку, то есть как дар для усиления деятельности на территории нового Сильного Объеденения племен под эгидой кельтов. Рабочий пример - как многонациональный советский народ инфраструктуру Караганды или Душанбе (и многих других городов) отстраивал и объединял русским языком. Что этнических таджиков русскими по национальности не делало, но объединяло в общую группу обусловленную общим советским укладом и обладанием языка в понятие «НАШИ». Смотря на это, получается славяне - это не обособленная генетическая характеристика как белобрысый ясноокий Иван с балалайкой в руке, а собирательный образ как советский гражданин. Можно представить, если произошло какое-то масштабное событие, которое которое заставила поменяться цивилизациям с ног на голову, и вот многие кельты забыли кто они есть, по какой-то причине (романизации) скатились до современных диалектов кельтских племен, латыни и романо-германской группы, утратили знания о своем исконном языке, а те племена и народности которым «отстроили инфраструктуру» и обогатили знаниями и технологиями сохранили его как свой(и истинно в это уверовали), который в последствии еще был модифицирован на региональные диалекты (южно, западные и восточно-европейские славянские языковые ветки). Это как жители солнечного Таджикистана сейчас рассказывали что они изначально говорили на русском еще и при царе горохе. Не в обиду русскоязычным, но «царь-то ненастоящий!»…

Просто правильно всех рассадили, польке вообще легко, немке тоже не очень трудно, вот потом проблемы начинаются, но т.к. в португальском буквы произносятся почти как в русском, то слово восстанавливается по звучанию и доходит в более понятном формате.
Если бы вторая сидела индонезийка, то думаю всё звучание к концу потерялось бы.

I was a bit worried about how Elita would handle the Russian pronunciation, but I think she did well. Unlike some East Asian speakers such as Chinese, Japanese, or Koreans, we Indonesians don’t mix up L and R, and rolling our Rs is no problem. But sibilants and affricates like sh, ch, and zh especially when they appear inside consonant clusters are definitely challenging for us. 😝

As a native Russian speaker, Russian and Portuguese thing is valid for Portugal. Portugal sounds similar to Russian and Brazil sounds like Italian
I still think Brazilian Portuguese sounds more Polish while Portugal Portuguese sounds like Russian or Czech…
Czech accent is literally nothing alike Russian. Therefore will not be similar in the same way to Portugese.
Czech both language and accent are closer to Polish as these are both in West Slav subgroup, while Russian and Ukrainian are East Slav.

Polish girl turns 'ы' and 'ый' endings into polish 'y'. It's almost the same, so it works, but it gives the words a polish flavour.
Those sounds are so fucking strange to me as a Polish speaker LOOOOL.
I can hear them, and if I think, I can probably pronounce them okay, but my mind is telling me “just say ‘y’” all the same.

In general, pronounce this sound without bringing your lips together into a tube. That is, on the contrary, pronounce this sound, start smiling, as it were. This will be the "ы".

As a Polish speaker I put Russian in the uncanny valley. It sounds so similar yet so different at the same time.
It's funny, as a Russian speaker, I have a fairly easy time understanding West Slavic languages, but the hissing and clicking sounds, like sh, ch, make me smile.
Bulgarian is the closest to the original Slavic language. So if anything, the Roman church has divided us with conjugations. Can you imagine if Russia and Poland had remained pagan, and if Poland had humbly accepted second place? The key to an empire is not forcing everyone to assimilate.

This video shows exactly what I'm always saying about the Russian language: it's very, uhm, 'resilient' to errors and noise. Lkie you konw ploepe can siltl raed snetcenes like tehse, as long as the first and last letter are in their places, Russian words can be mushed a lot, but still intelligible enough to get them correctly.

That's because they are very logical for the most part.
Its not about the languages, rather about the way our brain functions. Although, Russian might be slightly easier to understand while "messed up", because words are pretty long on average and have many sounds in them, so in general you have more info about the word you percieved only partly
@aivi2077 in Czech, it's exactly vice versa, you swap long and short vowels or A and O and you can end with completely different word and nobody will understand you. Russian is more like English in this case, but in languages that have clear vowels, it's really important to pronounce properly and not turning everything into some schwa as russians or english speakers always do.

Depends. Julia is generally familiar with many languages so even though she can’t speak Russian it makes it easier. If it was a random Pole there, it would have looked a lot worse.
Russian isn’t particularly easy for us Poles. Lots of false friends, a lot less mutually computable vocabulary than expected. Saying this as a Silesian Pole who actually learned some Russian.

Wow, finally that game with my native language. The Polish girl and the German girl impressed me a lot, since they pronounced quite difficult words perfectly, and the German girl was even able to pronounce the vowel "ы" almost correctly. It was actually wise to place the Polish girl next to the Russian girl, since the languages are similar. The Russian girl at the end of the line (in the 2nd part of the game) is very good at deciphering butchered words. Well, I enjoyed the video a lot. Thank you.

Девушка из Германии действительно удивила, а в польке никаких сомнений не было, они умеют все наши звуки и даже больше, в польском и все шипящие на месте, и кластеры согласных как у нас и даже длиннее, и Ы есть, и сверху ещё нозальные гласные. Ей невероятно сложно знакомое слово повторить так как сказано, а не так, как подсказывает родной язык :) У меня постоянно это, когда на других славянских говорю, русские слова лезут, и особенно когда не знаешь или забыл слово, мозг просто подкидывает - а ты произнеси русское слово на польский манер)) Та же sprawiedliwość, один в один слово, просто конец шьчь.

i can tell u as polish they use word that exist in our liblary but with diffrent meaning for exaple word in 19:15 is made from 2 polish words żyzny (fertile) and radosny (very happy) so no issue for us. Whats funny i work with ukrainians now and i teach one of girls words. She had problem to speak our words correctly but i allways I pronounce her words without any problems bcs half ukrainian is made of polish and second half is made of russian. If u look deeper ukriainian they use polish words and pronunciation but keep russian grammar. Thats why russian is very easy to learn for ukrianians but for russians ukrainian is oposite

@rusfan42 It's not 'Latin spelling', but English spelling using Latin script. You're just more used to H together with C making ч sound, than C and Z together making it, that's it.

To these non Russian ears, it sounded like you did very well mimicking the sounds. I'm sure if your version went straight to the end, they would get it instantly. Maybe Russians just hear an accent and one or two small mistakes that doesn't alter the word significantly. But i'll let the Russians be the judge.
