Here’s a song I wrote in Old English a while ago, which I have decided to remake. Music, lyrics and arrangement by myself, with vocals by me and my wife. The song is dedicated to perhaps the greatest Englishman in history, King Alfred the Great. The song is largely based on the Anglo Saxon Chronicle’s telling of the Battle of Edington/Ethandun in which King Alfred overcame the Great Heathen Army and baptised their king, Guthrum. In a church in my hometown, there’s a stained glass window which portrays Alfred with the tagline “Subduer of the Danes”, which I thought was an awesome title, so I just had to implement it! I hope you enjoy! If you'd like to support my work, you can do so here: buymeacoffee.com/theskaldicbard/ Thank you for your kindness. Lyrics in description. My intention is exclusively to teach history and languages through song. I do not condone, endorse or seek to glorify violence.

What a gift! It came exactly when I was studying Anglo-Saxon history before to the Norman conquest. King Alfred is a fascinating character to learn about. Most popular culture prefers to narrate stories about Viking invaders rather than those who fought pirate invasions. Early English history is fascinating, from the Saxon conquest to the shift in beliefs, internal battles, unifications, Viking invasions, religion disputes, and so on. Damn, I'm not even English, but the events of 1066 almost brought me to tears. Thankyou for this!
If there ever was a King who did deserve the title " The Great" King Alfred certainly fits the bill. Extravagant song you've made here Sir; perfect mix of intense Choir war chanting for motivational drawl and complementary instrumental melody ( specifically the flute). What makes it special to me is how the story being told is just at the right tempo to hear the words in its fullness, close to how a bard tells a tale. This definitely is one of your top works. I'm looking forward to the Spotify release, God bless Sir to you and your wife for your excellent art!

I just found out a new region of music you should check out- Occitan, France. The region was originally a Basque area that got culturally absorbed by the Celts, conquered by the Romans & then the Franks.
