I'd totally watch FranNEWS as a regular segment! I think it would need to be kept to a reasonable length though, maybe 10-15min tops. Also needs one of those annimated news intros with spinning globe or something. Worked for PewDiePie
Unfortunately, I think you're right. Personally, I prefer a more long form approach with more info and context, but videos in the 15 minute range will likely look less daunting to new folks. I would almost say shorter videos but released more often would be the key, but I know the Algorithm can bury frequent video releases. Maybe longer videos with well done chapters would mostly appease everyone?
@@FranLab - very interesting and new content for me. I prefer a bit shorter videos because of the amount of content across the platform that I use to keep informed. I do usually make time for your videos, though. Great video, in presentation and content, my friend. Thank you.
Fran, I'm another of your fans that would happily sit and listen to you talk about whatever is on your mind. I find you to be very informative, and the way you communicate just resonates with me. I find you very relaxing to listen to, as well. Keep pumping out the hits, and, congratulations on the new space, I really hope you can keep this one.
I gotta wonder if someone won't part out the ISS rather than destroy it, since an enormous part of its cost was getting it off the earth and beyond the atmosphere. Even if it's too smelly to save it for the same use, it surely is a source of materials for recycling in future off-earth construction.
I'm on the order of 5-10 years younger than Fran, and her channel has, for more than two years, re-awakened all sorts of my childhood electronics makerly impulses, and I'm now operating soldering irons (and even purchasing new ones, plus breadboards and transistors and all the rest) in response to her instructive and highly illuminating videos. Of course I want to know what Fran has to say about current events. On this channel we get to learn about past technologies, the state of the electronic arts in the present, and gain insight into what the near future may bring.
I, too, enjoyed this segment. I was aware of the stories, but had no one with which to have a discussion. You were that source and could become important over time. Thanks
It's so good to support local journalism, too! I subscribe to my city's local - it also forces me to spend a period of "paper" time each day, unplugged from tech. Kudos, Fran! I'd definitely watch this segment!
Really liked this video, Fran! Great compilation, so fascinating. I hated when I had to drop my local paper because I couldn't afford it. This was 20 years ago, when the paper could afford space for less-read topics. The science reporter was really good and I always looked forward to the science section each week.
I stopped reading the local newspaper when they stopped proofreading before publication. The last one hat a photo of an overturned work truck on a local highway, yet they referred to it as 'Car' or Automobile' al lthrough the text.
my dad was a private pilot in the 40s and 50s, he told me he took a parachute with him if he knew he was going to fly at high altitudes, because if a fire started on board, he couldn't get the plane down fast enough to save himself.
You can identify the LED and CFL bulbs by the button on the bottom. Incandescent bulbs have a lead or solder button base. LED and CFL bulbs have a chrome plated button on the base. ---- I like your wrap of science news. Some stories I have read and others I have not. Keep up the good works.
I agree with you. I try to stay away from cable news, or I might watch parts, but I try to get my news from people like you too and other podcasts. Never one source, and I appreciate you going thru the news, and picking out articles. I enjoy the show.
I'm having to eat my words: I always maintained that a curated news-feed was, by definition, not news. This however was great! If the subject matter is there, I'm all for it! Keep it up Fran.
Yep, I like FranLab News, and I'll be a regular viewer. You're covering things that definitely interest me, but which I'd probably never otherwise come across.
I have seen most of the news on the digital mediums, the exception being the BB one. In any case I loved the format. I love that you added your knowledge and opinion. It also helped to have a little extra time to digest the news. Thanks for sharing.
I like this idea. I find all your types of presentation (trying hard to avoid using the term “content”) interesting so sure let’s add this to the mix. Thank you !
An early shuttle mission returned with a damaged window. When they analyzed what hit the window, it turned out to be a fleck of paint from a Saturn 5 rocket. Nobody can track all of those pieces since they are so small. They have a tough time with baseball sized derbies continuously.
I really enjoyed your take on these news stories. Thanks for doing the one about "I crashed my plane." I think that one was even suggested to me, but I never watched it. Looking forward to the next one!
This series is definitely A KEEPER! Regarding light bulbs: I have a few lamps that come on and dim by touching the base. LED bulbs don't work with those lamps. But thanks for the heads-up on where to get my replacements now!
This is a you tube version of the old " Sunday Science Supplement" in newspapers...keep it up! I think it's great. Dollar Tree has been selling clearly labelled LED bulbs for several years. I bought a couple for a freight elevator at work, and they've been on 24/7/365 for a couple years. It's too bad the old ISS couldn't be pushed into a " museum orbit" somewhere for the future..or that really old satellites couldn't be recovered for museums. The mental image I have for the ISS deorbit is the crashing space station from " Green Slime"... I'll bet that pilot had to answer a lot of questions for the FAA..
Hey, Fran! What say we go junking out at Point Nemo? Think of all the cool stuff we could drag up!!! LoL! I like the news segments, I think it’s a keeper!
Terrific format for future videos. I especially liked the story about the space junk, mankind always creates junk yards where ever he explores and lives.
I appreciate your news segments Fran! The only one I'd heard about was the ISS. Even in that case, it was nice to hear your analysis of the situation. As you find articles like this, please do feel free to share. 👍️
Frantastic idea !! Perhaps monthly or twice a month updates so that you are not consuming your valuable time producing and editing a weekly program This was such fun to watch and i thank you so much for giving time to fly this flag to see who salutes 👏👏👏
I think this is great. I can have my coffee while you go over the science news. I'm definitely in favor of this, especially because I ditched TV years ago.
Those glass LED bulbs would be nice for outdoor fixtures. The plastic ones degrade over time due to UV I think and crack letting in moisture which destroys them. They were rated for damp locations but not for the outdoors, so kinda my fault.
I like this format and would watch it regularly! Just one suggestion: Maybe focus on the underreported topics. Most viewers probably are already familiar with the high profile stories. Personally, the incandescent light bulbs in dollar stores issue was new to me, but I had already seen and heard more than enough about the dude who jumped out of his airplane.
Thanks Fran for putting a perspective on news items. I too try to avoid watching the news on TV. I`m from the UK but can relate to the articles you referred to. Yes poorer people can`t always afford to buy LED bulbs and so suffer higher electricity bills, I still need to replace a number of bulbs with LED at home. Interesting to know about the ISS and how they would de-orbit it. I still remember Skylab coming down. I`ve often wondered what will be the next space station. OK we are still a little way off getting something like DS9 LOL! But who knows! Take care and stay safe.... off now to finish my LED & Blackberry Dessert 🙂
I like it! You not only read the newspapers, you also fact check and go above and beyond to use products as examples. Go for it Fran - I'm one of your biggest fans!!!
On the Space Shuttle the philosophy with respect to failures was Fail-Operational, Fail-Safe. Meaning after the first failure the vehicle was Operational, after the second failure of the same system was Safe. NASA probably imposed this requirement on SpaceX, so the Dragon Capsule is Fail-Safe with only two parachutes, three is Fail-Operational. Probably landing with only one parachute was unacceptable in some way, but I'd bet passengers would survive but may be injured, Fail-Injured. So, the four chutes added another level of protection on a Dragon Capsule.
Digging the science news and also your take on things with background knowledge. I learned a ton in your Havana syndrome post that wasn't obvious reading stories about it so thanks!
I liked the segment, keep them coming. I’m also a private pilot and agree completely with you. Fine, take license away, pay for aircraft, firs responders, and ground damage, all to the max. Stupid is as stupid does. As far as space junk, we need shields, however Dr. Michio Kaku says unlikely to come about in his book “Physics of the Impossible”.
I'd totally watch FranNEWS as a regular segment!
I think it would need to be kept to a reasonable length though, maybe 10-15min tops.
Also needs one of those annimated news intros with spinning globe or something.
Worked for PewDiePie

Yea, I've already got the intro in my mind. If it flies I'll do it.
@@FranLab - very interesting and new content for me. I prefer a bit shorter videos because of the amount of content across the platform that I use to keep informed. I do usually make time for your videos, though. Great video, in presentation and content, my friend. Thank you.
Also needs the segment titles in the stream (or in the comments or both) so we can jump to the next segment if we are not interested
Fran News. I'd totally subscribe!

Science news from non mainstream sources works for me.
Please continue.
I’d ❤️ to hear your take on the news !
This is a SUPERIOR segment and I encourage you to make them regularly.
I gotta wonder if someone won't part out the ISS rather than destroy it, since an enormous part of its cost was getting it off the earth and beyond the atmosphere. Even if it's too smelly to save it for the same use, it surely is a source of materials for recycling in future off-earth construction.
I'm a big fan of this idea. Somewhat obscure science news from a source I trust is a huge draw for me. I say try it out for a while.
Also, I like that hat.
I like the format, Fran. You can do this as often as you wish.
I like the scope cart too.
Even if Fran doesn't go into great detail, just hearing *something* about this stuff allows one to investigate on their own. A capital idea.
If you trust what you read in the papers.
👍🏼 Agreed!
With you on the super cool hat as well.
Love me some stylish and bitchin' millinery!
Please keep this project going. Many of us don't have the chance to read those newspapers nor the insight to the subjects. Thank you.
Thanks! Nice roundup.
Space junk: Wherever we go, we litter. It's what we do.
It's so good to support local journalism, too! I subscribe to my city's local - it also forces me to spend a period of "paper" time each day, unplugged from tech. Kudos, Fran! I'd definitely watch this segment!
I think FranNEWS is a great idea and would watch.
Really liked this video, Fran! Great compilation, so fascinating.

Great idea! A periodic news segment is a welcome addition to yer channel. Keep at it.
my dad was a private pilot in the 40s and 50s, he told me he took a parachute with him if he knew he was going to fly at high altitudes, because if a fire started on board, he couldn't get the plane down fast enough to save himself.
I don't watch the news cuz it makes me sad, but I'd love to not miss out on all the cool science news ^-^
Thanks Fran!
I'll tune-in daily. Thanks, Fran.

I like your wrap of science news. Some stories I have read and others I have not.
Keep up the good works.
Great news summary Fran! Thank you!
I like the NEWS idea, I will watch them all!
Great commentary. Keep doing your science news.
very interesting facts, brilliant thank you fran, will be watching more, 👍👍

It's nice to here your take on these things
Love your spirit and your work! :)
Great idea, will definitely watch.
This was great! I'd love to see future FranLab science news updates! Very cool and interesting!!!
I have seen most of the news on the digital mediums, the exception being the BB one. In any case I loved the format. I love that you added your knowledge and opinion. It also helped to have a little extra time to digest the news. Thanks for sharing.
I love hearing the news from Fran's Lab!! Keep it coming.
Definitely liked the news you picked !
I like this idea. I find all your types of presentation (trying hard to avoid using the term “content”) interesting so sure let’s add this to the mix. Thank you !
I like it, you find things that I miss.
Enjoyed it thoroughly, please make FranNews regular content.
Frannews is a good idea not only for the info in the papers but your commentary as well. Please keep it up. Thanks.
I really enjoyed this, thank you. Please do more!
I definitely enjoyed hearing your perspectives on these stories, so I'd say keep it coming!
An early shuttle mission returned with a damaged window. When they analyzed what hit the window, it turned out to be a fleck of paint from a Saturn 5 rocket. Nobody can track all of those pieces since they are so small. They have a tough time with baseball sized derbies continuously.
Yes, Fran...your unique perspective on world events would be refreshing and interesting. Please continue.
I really enjoyed your take on these news stories. Thanks for doing the one about "I crashed my plane." I think that one was even suggested to me, but I never watched it.
Looking forward to the next one!
Would be really interested to see Fran News. Love all your hard work here on youtube. Much appreciated.
This series is definitely A KEEPER!
Regarding light bulbs: I have a few lamps that come on and dim by touching the base. LED bulbs don't work with those lamps. But thanks for the heads-up on where to get my replacements now!
These are all the topics I have been following all week.

Very happy to hear your take on selected news items.
I definitely need more segments like this one. Thanks Fran!
I really enjoyed this. I had heard some of these stories but it was great to hear your take based on your knowledge and experience! 😍
Best news anchor on the internet
I'd already read all of those news stories but they seemed much more interesting coming from you. We definately need Fran news.
Loving this format of video. Definitely a good way to keep up with Science news!
Fran continue to read the news...your view point is valuable!
Really like this format. Please do it again!
I LOVE THIS!!! Great idea Fran.
Hey, Fran! What say we go junking out at Point Nemo? Think of all the cool stuff we could drag up!!! LoL! I like the news segments, I think it’s a keeper!
Did I say “stuff”? I meant history! LoL!
You're an interesting presenter. Appreciated watching and listening to someone smart. Do it again.
Terrific format for future videos. I especially liked the story about the space junk, mankind always creates junk yards where ever he explores and lives.
As someone who refuses to watch TV news and is generally only really interested in science news anyway, I would LOVE to see this as a regular feature.
Yes! Really enjoyed hearing your news. Keep doing it. Go Fran!
Thanks Fran, it's a good concept to do a news round-up.
Just adding my enthusiastic support for this idea. Definitely a fun discussion!
LOVE FRANLAB! Her pragmatic view is awesome!
I appreciate your news segments Fran! The only one I'd heard about was the ISS. Even in that case, it was nice to hear your analysis of the situation. As you find articles like this, please do feel free to share. 👍️

This was fun - I could see myself listening to this on my long drive to work
I like the FranLab News, so much easier to digest than the TV News you mentioned.
I think this is great. I can have my coffee while you go over the science news. I'm definitely in favor of this, especially because I ditched TV years ago.

Yes! Please continue these readings!
Ya that's the stuff Fran! Great to see you again!

Personally, the incandescent light bulbs in dollar stores issue was new to me, but I had already seen and heard more than enough about the dude who jumped out of his airplane.
Good idea for a regular instalment on the channel, this. I'd be happy to see you make one of these, say, once a month or something.
don' t stop doing this, I like it!
thanks verry entertaining and interresting
I like this format for tech news, yep, i would make it a regular watch. Thank you.
I enjoyed this very much. Good luck with the new digs.
Love to hear your take on the news. Good video

Love your new News Fran Channel !!
Hope this got good traction, really enjoyed the news!
Thats a perfect format. Thank you Fran!
Absolutely yes please.
I LIKE YOUR NEWS , please continue your vision for it
Great video! I love the concept, science is in our life everyday. It’s good to discuss it.
FranNEWS for the win!
Love the vintage Tektronix analog scope and Wavetek signal generator. Reminds me of the instruments we used in college back in the mid 1970s.
Yes, please! Your insight is wonderful!
This is great Fran!
I like the news ideas. Might I suggest chapter marks between stories in case someone wants to come back and jump straight to a particular one.
Really enjoyed this news round up Fran, I'd happily watch more.

Love the Tek scope in the background. I worked there for 30 years.
Digging the science news and also your take on things with background knowledge. I learned a ton in your Havana syndrome post that wasn't obvious reading stories about it so thanks!
I would definitely like if you went on with this format. Big thanks.
Great news items Fran.
great idea love it
