The saddest part is the start of the story sounds so positive and inspiring. Becomes a chef, volunteers in kitchens around the world, just to learn more about his craft opens a restaurant that sells good if not great food at decent prices... and it just all goes to his head.
It happens more often than you think. He had quite a run, he made alot of money but then again you can only go so far so i can safely say with confidence that he did good. The dude went from obscurity to celebrity and from a dude working in a kitchen to 70 million networth so yeah safely say he did awesome like he's part of the 1%. Even Gordon Ramsey gets so much flak for doing less and everytime someone famous does something it's like suddenly the worst thing in the world or so on "Sensationalism pretty much". Am i saying what he did isn't bad? Nah not really, dude he got his hands on the world cup. If that was a friend of mine i'd want him to touch my head while i pray. If that was some random dude he'd be praised in the internet like right now so question is why do we treat people differently just coz of status? He didn't hurt anyone, he did troll that soccer team real good and gotta admit i laughed abit with that. Just coz he overpriced his products means he's evil coz people still bought it so instead of handling customers in bulk he just made it more exclusive so his business doesn't collapse coz his fame has that much pull. Some goes full on FAST FOOD chain and some just goes OVERPRICE that thing coz if you can't handle the bulk of the orders then that actually means you make lesser than what your supposed to be efficiency and productivity speaking so instead of upping manpower and work yourself to the bone he instead went exclusive so it's actually a sane decision. Handling a kitchen is rougher than what people think.
True. Except you also have the same with other 'media' stars in cuisine, like Gordon Ramsey or Jamie Oliver. Both have chains of restaurants, and like any other restaurant, it can be a miserable experience with long waiting, orders getting mixed up, something being undercooked. Except the difference is that in a generic restaurant you'd pay maybe 50 euro/dollar for it and not 450.
He was saving face, you can see the awkwardness in his actions with the player (rightfully) not letting go of the trophy when he was trying to hold it.
I've worked in a lot of VERY upscale restaurants in the NYC area and I've never in my life seen prices like his. The food, sure, and maybe an upcharge for soda because of operating costs. but 20 bucks to open a can of red bull for you is absolutely insane. And he pays his cooks 15 bucks an hour. It's fucking disgusting.
to be fair he is just capitalizing on the uber-rich and famous people's desire to show off. If he didn't do those later controversial things, and if he maintained a chain that was meant for common people I bet he would still be well love. If I was in his situation I would probably also charge what people are willing to pay, though I would not charge high for coke and other soft drinks.

It's kinda like with bullying in schools and workplaces, you know? Some people want to improve their standing just to make it stop, while some others - often the pitifully insecure types - really just want to feel the joy of power through bullying someone else and feel better about their previous humiliation. Rapist-nerds from Blizzard, certain feminist figures, the likes of Zoe Quinn, you know? I don't believe they've been corrupted by their power. Rather, they have always been shitty and waited for their turn to bully. I believe that's also the real reason for the victimhood cult in modern western culture - it's no coincidence that the ones who won't shut up about sexism/racism/whatever are often those who don't really suffer from them, or much less than the real victims, who, conversely, often take it much easier. Because they really want to be left alone rather than to obtain "victim priveleges"...and even when not, the real victims don't go around attacking people indiscriminately, they usually focus on their offender.

I worked in fine dining for about 7 years as a line cook. There's a LOT of ego in the kitchens, a lot of fanfare made about celebrities coming to eat at the restaurant, and there's always a strong incentive to drive up menu prices whilst keeping food costs low by doing silly things with the food, or even just trying to make it seem fancier and more artistic. I have to say, sprinkling salt is definitely one of the sillier things I've seen. I always thought half the guy's fame was from him trying to look like Freddy Mercury, more than the salt thing by itself.

I worked as a Sous Chef in fine dining restaurants for a while. When Salt Bae became viral, and we saw the prices… we all just laughed. It was well known in that lil community that the whole thing was a dumb gimmick (but hey, it worked!) the most baffling part though, was that you could go to a 2-3 star Michelin restaurant, pay less money, get WAY better food and “instagram worthy” presentation/service. Any michelin star restaurant has amazing presentation. We knew eventually it would come crashing down.
yep, I knew a bloke that went to one of salt prick's restaurants, they weren't impressed, even said one of the local place (not sure if it's okay to name drop a bar/restaurant so I'll leave it out) near me did better food, the place isn't even big, could probs fit less than 50 people, but I reckon that's why it's so good, because they have a good relationship with the regulars and actually give enough of a shit about their customers to want to do their best lmfao. Don't get me wrong, I've been to a fancy restaurant or two (never anything as expensive as the type of place I'm guessing you used to work) and the stuff there was great, but even with the careful placement of the food on the plate, it always seemed rushed like they just wanted you to eat, pay and go as soon as possible. The local place always seemed more friendly in a way even on my first time going there everyone just seemed so happy noth the customers and staff (everybody loves the head chef, she's just generally a great person), and to me, good atmosphere and general vibe is what makes a place worth going to, I mean, what's the point of going to some big expensive place if you just end up feeling unwelcome.

Despite how he acts now, I do believe there is a lot to learn from his past. It shows anyone can be successful given the work and dedication. It sucks how he turned out. The success went all to his head.
@@anthonyduran6387 TLDR: success is not proportionate to effort; work hard but remain realistic; work on people skills if you want to venture into business. Wrong lesson. Success is not proportionate to effort. He had his innate charisma (before it morphed into obvious narcissism, anyways), business savvy, and relatively good looks. Anyone can work hard, but not everyone will achieve the same success. To simplify it, he was lucky. He has a good roll in the gene lottery, grew up in an environment where he was able to hone his charisma, and was educated properly by the people who let him volunteer. This is not to scare people off from working hard. I'm just saying that "anyone can be successful given the work and dedication" is simply false hope, and you're better off learning how to create and maintain important connections, as well as working on people skills. All of these increase your chance because the world of business is built on the back of connections (and yes, some level of ass-kissing), but this again does NOT guarantee success. Oh, and people skills also do allow you to at least appear like your humble, or to a lesser extent not an asshole; its something that Nusret needs to brush up on again, since charisma does not equal people skills...nor does it make you treat your employees better.

Narcissistic envy for real, man was high on the adrenaline of clout chasing and got a shock to the system witnessing someone else's success in another field of life that felt entirely dwarfing to him. Instead of taking the moment to be humbled, he attempted to usurp and somehow?? (wild) vicariously experience the fruits of that success for himself as though he could equally participate in the achievement. In clinical terms, we call this protest behavior. And it's ironically and painfully (if you ask me) that his protest behavior led to the very thing he feared. A literal mob of people on his social media comments denouncing him as "just a chef" who didn't deserve to be in the same vicinity of the championship footballers... which is what he was already feeling and trying to dispel through maladaptive means. When people talk about the 'law of attraction', this is the kind of phenomenon they're usually pointing to. Lack of self-awareness and acknowledgement of our faults and fears often lead to the very self-sabotage that we dread most. Sorry to get all philosophical, lol

His narcissism is truly unmatched. Nearly twenty dollars for JUST a can of Red Bull and thirty-five for TWO COKE ZEROS? WHAT are they putting in those drinks?! A perfect example of fame, popularity and money going to someone's head, and that was before the 'salt bae' persona. To up the prices from $70 for 4 people to $100 per person was the turning point and it only got worse year after year. And it says a lot when the FIFA CEO Gianni Infantino sees nothing wrong with him and is besties with him at 10:34. He has a Nusr-Et Steakhouse here in NY, in a prime Manhattan location between the Museum of Modern Art and Rockefeller Center, and right next door to another famous steakhouse chain called Fogo de Chão. And that burger place you mentioned has another prime location by Union Square Park. The man means business. As the saying goes for NY, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.

Some goes full on FAST FOOD chain and some just goes OVERPRICE that thing coz if you can't handle the bulk of the orders then that actually means you make lesser than what your supposed to be efficiency and productivity speaking so instead of upping manpower and work yourself to the bone he instead went exclusive so it's actually a sane decision. yep, I knew a bloke that went to one of salt prick's restaurants, they weren't impressed, even said one of the local place (not sure if it's okay to name drop a bar/restaurant so I'll leave it out) near me did better food, the place isn't even big, could probs fit less than 50 people, but I reckon that's why it's so good, because they have a good relationship with the regulars and actually give enough of a shit about their customers to want to do their best lmfao.

Except they actually have a unique talent. Messi is exceptional at football and Kanye West isn't you singing in your bathroom.
But slapping insane price tags on a piece of meat and throwing salt like a moron isn't something to be particularly proud of. But he has a talent, and it's showing off so much that shallow people think what he is doing is extraordinary.
Imagine charging $1,200 for $50 worth of meat and gold leaf, a 2,400% mark up, and still shorthanding your restaurant staff.
smart business man there. Morals and empathy dont fit inside a room that is already filled with greed. I'd do it too.
Its the fact that dumb people were willing to pay that much...
The worst part of it is that stupid rich pricks gladly paid up

I had a bad day today. This story was so surreal and entertaining, it's made me feel much better. Thank you.
Aww, I'm sorry you had a bad day. Prayer to Jesus Christ truly can uplift. Repenting of sins does amazing things, I felt weights released from me. I've never been a religious type of person, but the hope and peace and upliftement is amazing and not reliant on external things. Yes, of course there will always be good and bad days in this world, but Jesus Christ is real and eternal life is real. The spirit world and afterlife is very real and sin causes more problems in one's mind, heart, body, soul, and spirit than most realize. God bless :)

@@icoffeeKek If only you realize how your soul is being held captive by the powers of darkness and knew what is truly taking place on this earth. So sad to see people thinking they know and saying such derogatory, condescending cheap shots when someone tries to point another soul to the one that gives life and is in charge of life. You sadly have been bamboozled by spiritual forces you're not aware of. The arrogance on top of spiritual ignorance is a very dangerous and detrimental combination to your soul, if only you knew. Humble yourself, repent, and cry out while you still have breath in your lungs. You don't realize what will happen and how your eyes will be opened to the truth. Sadly, many will refuse and then when they see the afterlife, they beg and plead with such desperation for just a few moments more on earth so they can repent, but time has run out. You have no idea how many billions of souls wish they were in the position you're in with the ability to repent still.
@@souldesire5932 Humility and perspective is required on both sides. Consider that perhaps you don't hold all the answers and humble yourself.
8:21 imagine he wouldn't have touched it there, only signaled someone should hold it lower and then made his salt move. He'd be loved by everyone. Small things make a difference.
The dude had such a beautiful start....a kid growing up doing what he loved doing and everyone loved it.
Despite how he acts now, I do believe there is a lot to learn from his past. It shows anyone can be successful given the work and dedication. It sucks how he turned out. The success went all to his head.
@@anthonyduran6387
TLDR: success is not proportionate to effort; work hard but remain realistic; work on people skills if you want to venture into business.
You either die a hero or life long enough to see yourself become the villain. It’s overdone, but I think that fits him.
I will never understand how he got popular in the first place. He had a dumb look on his face, weird sunglasses at an indoor restaurant, and he sprinkled salt on his arm that then wound up on the food. I thought he was "meme popular", not "get rich popular." Like, I thought he was a complete joke from the beginning.
And Gold is biologically inert, meaning it does not have ANY benefits to eating it at all. You just sh*t it all out the next day.
@@anthonyduran6387 Anyone can be successful in the way anyone can win the lottery.
It happens to very very few and luck often plays an enormous role.

This takes the phrase "no accounting for taste" to a whole new level.
LMAO good one :D
Every time he says “…with his salty elbow” .. I’m tickled 😂😂
Imagine spending your whole life working to get the most prestigious trophy in your field when someone in a completely different field lifted it just by being there 😂
With absolutely no significance to the trophy itself. Not related to any player, not even from the same country. Not even from the same continent 😂
money and salt talks. bet someone was paid in gold for his access.
He bribed the president of the AFA, he received him days ago before the final as BFF. It is known argentine ppl with power are highly corrupt.
Sorry to get all philosophical, lol
he looks like a Resident Evil boss. i want to know what he looks like during the actual battle, when he injects the parasites and turns into something right out of John Carpenter's subconscious
hahaha Dude you are a gamer and most of all have played Resident Evil Series
I see you everywhere and I love it
If it sells for that price why would you put cheaper prices?
There's one in Beverly Hills too.
Man knows his demographics and who to exploit.

Personally, I can't hate on him. If people are stupid enough to pay those prices, why not charge whatever. That's what capitalism is all about. Good on him.
The way the kid was trying to hold the world cup and Salty Bae was shaking his finger at him like, "No, no, not yours, mine..." That's true narcissism
You said it, disgusting.

I don't know if I'm impressed or sad that this man did so well off such a simple gimmick
Well, sprinkling salt got him to hold the trophy. No matter what we think about it, I suppose we will not see it repeat in our lifetimes.
