    Of all the DUMBLE amps, clones and pedals I checked out on RUclips, my ears really perked up when I heard the tone you were getting. Exactly what I was looking for. Great playing too! Lots of nice melodic lines in your soloing. Good job too in explaining what all the knobs and switches do. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this video together and take care!

    Rodney - Your tutorial was so excellent I bought a unit from Rob. I have had it since early June. It's everything I ever wanted and more. I have eliminated my amp and go right into the board. I gig the Etos with just a tuner and a delay pedal. My rig and set up has been simplified. Plus I get a sound that fits just me!!! Many thanks!!! Your Roots Rockin' Pal, Billy F. Otis

    BRILLIANT. I have had this unit for a while now and to have it explained in actual eloquent "Dumb"lese has proven invaluable. Excellent examples of licks there RGJ, stole a few! All in the vein of what I'm having to play right now. I've got my sounds fluent for next rehearsal. I'm staggered at this little box and so glad I snapped it up when I could. Front end for workstation recording par excellence. Thanks again Sir. It goes into a '63 Tremolux for live work, opens up the amp. opens up the guitar...nuff said.

    Great Thanks Rodney,
    Your playing is awesome and your way of going through and explain the pedal is easily understood and logic.
    I have got the Ethos pedal for 5-6 years and I quite often get back to your video as a reference when I need to
    understand how I get "the right" sound to my immediate guitar/pedal/amp setup. The guys behind the Ethos pedal has
    certainly done a great engineering job - thanks, however writing a proper useful manual was never done. With your video handy
    it is quite simple to write a piece of paper with all the tonal tricks, the proper way to tweak the pots and get to a
    good chance for a great result. So, thanks for your inspiring video manual.

    Beautiful, articulate, tasteful playing. I very much enjoyed the review. A gear question regarding the ethos. I'm currently running a Soldano preamp into a mesa power amp and pair of 2 x 12's.I put a TS-808 in front of the preamp to get a middy, "poor mans dumble" thing with the clean channel. Do you think I could a/b an ethos with the Soldano, and go directly into the mesa power amp? The Soldano has a fairly distinctive voice, which I'm concerned might overly color the ethos tone. Thanks in advance,Jon

  • @letsgobrandon7966

    Rodney,
    First, great video! Second, would you recommend running a Delay and Reverb before or after this pedal? (Especially if you were going directly to a PA)

    • @RodneyGeneJunior
      @RodneyGeneJunior  4 года назад

      Thanks MTC, appreciate the listen and the comment! - AFTER - similiar to an amp or gain/OD pedal in a pedal board. One available option on the Ethos is an independent effects loop in which case you could put the time based effects (Delay, Reverb) in a loop for a bit smoother /Dumulator sound. But for traditional old school effect and amp sound, I would do GUITAR - ETHOS - DELAY - REVERB in that order. Cheers! RG

    I listen these samples few times, amazing sound and great playing! Just curious, is it recorded with different amps, or you using the same amp for every sample? Because sometimes it's sounds with low mid like jcm 800, but sometimes like american twin or something like that. Is it achieved by TLE/Modern switch, or just separate amp for every sample? Thanks!

    • @RodneyGeneJunior
      @RodneyGeneJunior  7 лет назад +2

      Thanks Sergey. Thank you for the comments! Always the Carr Impala (Bassman style circuit) So that has both Fender and Marshall flavor. All tunes use the HRM which adds a plexi-ish vibe and any major difference in sound will be due to different pickups and whether I have my volume or tones rolled down. But every sample, every guitar, is using Carr Impala and Ethos w/ HRM. Cheers!

  • @michaelcraig9449

    How much does this one cost? What do you think of this one compared to the Ethos Clean II, or the Vertex Steel String Clean Drive? Or the Dumbloid OD pedal? There seems to be such an extreme amount of stuff to learn about all this pedal stuff..How would this one sound with a Fender Strat and a 68 fender twin Reverb or a 65 Fender Bassman both amps have JBL D120F speakers.. I played for a long time just could never afford the pedals and good amps.. so I still got a ton of stuff to learn and that is ok, keeps it interesting.

    Nice video, useful information. What do you think about the Ethos direct sound? How does is compares to modern units AS the Fractal Audio or the Kemper? Thanks!

    • @RodneyGeneJunior
      @RodneyGeneJunior  8 лет назад +4

      Cheers Matteo, thank you for listening and watching! I appreciate it. Been a Fractal user for years also. The Ethos is 100% Analog. It has a dry, direct upfront sound when going direct. I use it for bass on most all of my recordings. OD sound direct is very good, though really a single 'D' style flavor and a single speaker sim. Unlike Fractal or Kemper with many Cab IRs besides the amp choices. Bottom line, excellent as a direct unit, but limited.

      Rodney Gene Junior Thanks for the information. Great player and informed about the products. Do you use this into the effects loop bypassing the front end or straight in?

    • @RodneyGeneJunior
      @RodneyGeneJunior  7 лет назад

      My pleasure. Just straight in front of the amp! My Carr amps are old-school style builds, no effects loop. And you generally don't get musical results putting distortion through the loops. But if you have an amp with a pre-amp in/out, this is a good option.
