This interview is about Alison Carey, the older sister of music superstar, Mariah Carey. Alison Ann Carey was born to Alfred Roy Carey and Patricia Carey on August 7, 1961. The story begins with Alison and her mother, who picked up her 7-year-old son, Michael Scott for what Alison thought was a regular weekend visit, but shockingly, instead Patricia took him from Alison due to her history of illegal drug use and prostitution. Alison said that she has done this routine weekend visit before with her son between her and her mother. Mariah's sister, Alison has not had the happiest life, much less the easiest one, sometime after Alison's 15th birthday in 1976, she got married to a man named Richard McDonald, and became a mother that following year on May 23, 1977, which was the same time she dropped out of high school, she had her first child, a son and they named him Shawn, and according to Alison, she felt the need to help provide for her son and her new family, so she went out to try and find a job, but she claims that she couldn't find one because nobody wanted to hire her and that she never had any experiences doing anything. She knew that she had to get a job and that it was important for her and her son, but again she couldn't find one. But Alison didn't become a stay-at-home mom either, so instead, she turned to the streets for money, became a prostitute and got into illegal drug use after. In 1980, after 4 years of marriage, both Alison and Richard divorced, and eventually, somehow at an unknown point, Patricia got custody of Shawn. Alison was married to her second husband, a man named Dale Scott in 1985 when Alison was 23 or 24, and had her second son, Michael in 1987 sometime after Alison turned 26. But when Michael was nearly one year old, Alison's life had fallen into a downward spiral of depression and deep despair, and then that following year in late-1988, Alison's life had taken turn for the worse when Alison was 27, she tested positive for HIV. In 1989 after 4 years of marriage, Alison and Dale divorced. When Patricia came to pick up Michael for a weekend visit on Friday, December 3, 1994, and was supposed to return him on Monday evening December 5th, but she didn't. Patricia decided to take the power of "Child Protection Services" into her own hands and take him herself and keep him at her home. The early and mid-'90s was another era in Alison's life when things were going very badly for her when she was in and out of drug rehab and also after her son was taken away from her by her mother which then turned into a serious custody battle. Inspite of all the help, Alison bitterly admitted her jealousy toward Mariah, and she acted so very ungrateful and arrogant about it. The story of this crisis was first written in Linda Stasi's column in the "New York Daily News" in December 1994. It involves Alison, her son, Michael, and Patricia, and Alison believed that Mariah had arranged a trust fund personally for Michael. In early-mid-1973 before Alison turned 12, their parents Alfred Roy and Patricia separated and divorced due to the interracial discrimination against their marriage. Still, it's unknown whether or not it was also under any terms of it being a bad marriage, so she and their brother, Morgan Carey was sent to live with Alfred Roy while Mariah remained with Patricia. For Mariah on the other hand, life at a later point turned out different, anyone with a radio or TV was about to know the name "Mariah Carey". Mariah dedicated her debut album to Alison 5 years earlier before this interview in the summer of 1990 when Mariah was 20 and Alison was 28, but close to turning 29. During Alison's TV interviews, she believed the album dedication was only meant to make Mariah look like a good loving sister and only for publicity, so she was quoted as saying "I'm sorry I just think that's kind of beneath contempt". During the early-1990s at the start of Mariah's singing career, she was a young woman in her early 20's and Alison was a grown woman in her late 20's and early 30's Mariah had paid so much hard-earned money so many times in 4 years and a 1/2, between the summer of 1990 until Christmas of 1994 to have Alison put in drug rehab, but I don't know if there was any progress made or not. The custody trial was scheduled to begin the next month in March 1995 meanwhile the judge awarded temporary custody to Patricia, Alison however failed to show up for one of the case hearings, she said she was sick. Alison is in my prayers, and I hope and pray with all my heart and soul that everything turns out better and happier for her. Alison's previous interview, which was her first one, was recorded and broadcasted on the "A Current Affair" news in mid-December 1994 during the same time her son was taken.

They look and sound so much like each other. They could be twins.
When Alison was younger at the time, but actually more in a healthier state, they really did look that. The health is the most reason, not really the age.
I sympathize with her because she's been deeply troubled because of her upbringing in her childhood with sexual abuse which is why she turned to prostitution, HIV, Losing her child because of her drug abuse, Addiction etc
We never want to talk about why people who goes through these situations are the way that they are and would rather judge them and make it seem as if their trauma and pain is their fault
Amen!! One thing I believe would really help her is an invention with her entire family, with of course, Mariah, Patricia, Morgan (the brother) and possibly his wife, I mean that's Morgan's choice, and most of all her first two children, the sons, Shawn and Michael.
If you ever tried living with an addict though, you would know that for your own sake, you should leave as far as possible. Yes, everyone has a story but if they don’t wanna help themselves, then nobody can.
@@loupcaldeira Exactly. Op acting like addicts have no agency. My old neighborhood was full of addicts, and while they may be victims of circumstance at the end of the day, they chose to turn to drugs instead of other less detrimental avenues.
To be clear, I treat addicts with compassion and empathy because of what I saw when I was growing up, but I also hold them accountable and don’t make excuses for them slipping back into addition.

I went to their episode on Oprah after reading and that made me hate Patricia more. It's not their fault but it is now their responsibility to do the work to heal. We all have trauma.

@Tonny Mitch when you have the reach and worldwide platform of fans that Mariah does and publicly slander someone it's called libel and has legal ramifications. Doing this can destroy someone's mental health, self-esteem, public image, ability to work or form healthy relationships and cause people to have a preformed image of you based on lies, not including the fan harassment of her. This is all monetarily quantifiable, meaning after proven in court, Mariah will have to pay up.

Allison has been busted in shabby ran down hotels trying to get money from prostitution. If that’s the case, she would’ve been had to pay them. She would’ve been sued and it would’ve been publicly documented. Her siblings have no case against her. It always burns me when someone with no education claims that prostitution is the only way to make money. I’m uneducated and made great money cleaning private residences. I just started knocking on doors, and after my first job, I wound up cleaning for their friends, relatives employers, etc. So no excuses from these people are acceptable to me, sorry.
I have to agree with you on that. This one part also is speculation, either Alison tried to go around to different establishments and tried to apply, but always rejected, due to the fact that she was a "high school dropout" or she didn't try make the effort.
Mariah has tried to help Alison numerous times. She has put Alison’s sons and daughter through school. One son is now a lawyer. None of the children bother with Alison. That tells u all u need to know. I feel sorry for Alison but she has had the opportunity to get clean so many times and there are many other addicts who would jump at the chances she’s had to turn her life around.
Money and rehab have not helped her because it doesn't solve the root problem. Only therapy and self reflection were the only things that would've helped her. The whole family knew they were dysfunctional but never went through the mental acknowledgment of eachothers feelings and lives. Alison never had a role model and her and Morgan got the butt end of their parents divorce and marriage. As a big sister you do things wrong and you're like an experiment for you parents. That's why Alison mentioned Mariah being raised differently than them and how she feels about it. I feel bad for all of them.

YUP! Then the brother comes out & fault-finds w/ Mariah for giving money to an addict. But she has helped her on multiple occasion. Allison can sing as well to. Almost as good as Mariah. Her choices put her on a different path. This story is similar to Madonna’s Brother situation.
The only thing that cures addiction is self-care. The addict has to want change. Alison clearly has gone through life as a victim. Until she takes ownership of her choices and their consequences, she will never heal. I’m glad Miriam was there to help her family - especially the children.

She can sing also, there was a video of her singing on RUclips and oh my gosh I was mesmerized with her singing ability. Given the same opportunity, I think Alison will do greatly in signing or acting.
I so wish that Alison would've been able to be a recording artist as well, only I hear Alison more as a jazz singer. If Alison didn't go through the horrible things that she did when she was younger from when she was 16, she would've during the time when she was raised with her dad in the bad environment which she was being raised in from what it's been said, and being raised in a better environment with more loving people, she would've possibly had a way much better life plus a better chance of being a recording artist, like Mariah.

Didn't you hear what Alison said *?* Her white mother told her she'll never let Mariah identify as "interracial". And that she took her away and all of a sudden Mariah became Irish and Italian. And for a while, Mariah didn't ever even speak of her ethnicity. I remember in one interview from the early 1990s, she looked visibly annoyed when the interviewer asked her about her racial background. That is horrible. But you can blame American society (especially back in the 1970s and 1980s) and you can also blame Patricia for clearly having racist norms willingly instilled in her, yet *chose* to lay up w a mixed-race man who passed as black. 👍🏼

It's also been damaged from all the cigarette smoking as well. It was said on August 5, 2000, that she was going to publish an autobiography about, her and her relationship with Mariah. It was titled as "Mariah and Me". The source said Mariah's lawyers fought against Alison from having the book published and so it was never published. I read the old article about it, and it was meant to attack and de-fame Mariah.

I feel bad for what Alison went through growing up, of course, but she became an adult and continued making incredibly horrible decisions. I've never felt bad for her as a grown adult like we see here -- long before the memoir even came out -- because it was always so blatantly obvious that she was selling her sister out for money and the more "whoa is me" or "Mariah is horrible" the story was, the more attention she got, and, most importantly to her, the more money she got. Everytime I think we've seen the last of Alison, she comes slithering back up to the surface for more. It's been going on throughout Mariah's entire career and now again in 2023 with the "no teeth" video as if people are going to feel bad that years of hard drugs and alcohol rotted her teeth, or as is if they're going to think Mariah should be responsible for her, years after having no choice but to cut Alison off. She's literally a senior citizen now and still hasn't chosen to live life in a healthy or responsible manner so why would anyone think she deserves a handout?

Well, that didn't age well. Honestly, it didn't even get the chance to age. Mariah helped her again within that same decade and, even somewhat recently, Allison gave one of her "whoa is me, Mariah is horrible" interviews (2015) where she was criticizing Mariah for allowing her to be homeless and in despair, as if she still thinks Mariah owes her something despite Alison's claim here that she didn't feel like Mariah owed her anything.
She said same thing again, during an interview on the show "Hudson Valley News Network" in 2016, not long after she was attacked in December 2015, during that home invasion and assault, which almost killed her. She said not taking / asking another dime from her family. What does that tell ya?

The testimony story that Alison told that "She and Mariah were up one night that they noticed what their mother Patricia was up to and noticed that she was involved in those evil things and eventually they were forced to watch everything they did.
Her first mistake was that she was jealous of her own sister. She should’ve always been her sisters biggest supporter. I wouldn’t want to speak to someone either if they constantly sold me out.

Very sadly, Mariah and Alison's parents failed all three of their children. Alison had a very rough start with a negligent mother and a disenfranchised father, while growing-up in a racist country. Mariah was blessed with her musical talents and a laser-focus to make something of her life but her brother and sister seemed to lack those traits.
I have very skeptical and uncomfortable feelings about both of their parents. I also feel that the reason Alison didn't try to achieve her talent in singing is because of the violent and terrible neighborhood that Alfred Roy moved Alison and Morgan into after the divorce between Patricia and Alfred Roy. I believe that he moved them into a neighborhood of drugs, and other bad things in that realm. That's why she became influenced by the bad goings on in her surroundings, which also effected Morgan's life.
@@philipjennelle4257 Great point. I also think the fact that Alfred Roy didn't see a career in music as a real career choice, he didn't encourage his two older kids to explore their passions. Fortunately, Mariah lived with her mother, who everyone knows was an accomplished opera singer, so she naturally saw music/singing as a viable career and encourage Mariah. ' Alison and Morgan really had the cards stacked against them from the beginning, which is so sad.

That's exactly what I've been trying to tell everyone. Had their father not moved Morgan and Alison into a neighborhood that's like the projects or the ghetto or whichever people refer them to be called, they both wouldn't have ended up in the situations that they have over the past 40 or less years.

I think her mother did the right thing, she lost her daughter, she doesn’t want to lose her grandson. It’s like she’s trying to blame her mom and sister for her choices, no one’s fault but her own. Allison was my neighbor and one of my patients. She is a little out there but once you get to know her she isn’t that bad. But she will test your ass to see what she can get away with lol
I'm going to try to start a huge fund for her so I can travel up to Kingston, Long Island, New York and help her get back on her feet. She is in serious need of a full set of Dental Implants, a Job, Food, Medication for her HIV/AIDS illness, a Nice Decent Apartment in a Nice Decent Neighborhood, possibly help her quit smoking cigarettes if she would be willing, a full set of new clothes and shoes, and an appointment to a hair salon only because if she's going to get a job, she needs to be ready and presentable.

my aunt is an addict. its gutwrenching to watch someone you love go through it. you can beg time and time again for them to get clean, you can offer them the world; and they'll choose drugs over you every time. i feel for mariah on a deeply human level, love isnt always enough.

Dang, she was *fine* too! You can really see the resemblance and hear the resemblance in their voices. Mariah doesn't use her Long Island accent much but you can tell they are so similar. Love Alison's long dark curls :) Too bad life dealt her a hand that she made bad decisions with.

That's one of the reasons why I want to start my huge, big charity fund so that I can go Long Island, New York from Pulaski, Virginia to help her with all the things and needs that she's in serious and desperate need of and has to have.

The fact that she speaks about Mariah like she's some sort of perfect being like she didn't suffer throughout her childhood (which is why she even married someone abusive like Tommy Mottola) kinda shows that she doesn't really view her with empathy but rather as someone who had it easy compared to her, which will cause resentment and jealousy and sadly you can see that in recent years as well when she goes to the press to defame Mariah.

Oh, Mariah did help Alison for a 4 and a 1/2-year period from June 1990 to December 1994 with so much of her hard earned to get Alison in drug rehabilitation, but Alison was in and out throughout that time frame. Eventually, because of this incident, which of course happened at the beginning of December 1994, in my opinion, because of this happening so close to Christmas, which Mariah loves so much, this was the last straw for Mariah, and she couldn't take it anymore.
