This is definitely one of my favorites from this show. It just sounds so big and thick. And I really like what Howard is doing with the lights along with the video. And the backline transition continues. And as someone who seen the show live, I can say without a doubt, this song was even better when you heard them play it live. 😎☮️
I grew to love Rush as they aged and the tech and stage lighting got better and made it great! Geddy's aging voice didn't matter as the music and sound is fantastic. Being a Rush fan means living through it all with them, and knowing we were a small part of a great musical era that will never come again.
Yeah, the voice. It's tough to hear more than anything. As a fan you love em and know what it's supposed to sound like so you accept it and your mind fills in how you know it sounded. But it's natural and you can respect their esp Geddy's love of performing that he wants to keep playing, the thing he loves doing. Like a kid said a hundred yrs ago, "Say it isn't so, Joe".
One of my favorites, and I was glad they played the entire song. They often play an abridged version of this song with various sections cut a few measures short.
@@demonicadog Then why did you use the word, 'only'. "They ONLY did that on the R30 tour." The word 'only' signifies that it is not often. If you think they abbreviated it "too much" you should have simply agreed with my comment, no?
@@ericvonsteuben7533 I said “only” meaning they only played it on one tour. The tour had dozens of shows. My point is if they had to abbreviate it like that to play it then they shouldn’t have played it all. But don’t pay attention to what I say too much. You’re talking to a dog after all 🐾
You can really hear him cracking, sliding and hiccuping into the higher notes here. I very rarely return to this concert recording and will play my R40 playlist instead, as the set list was fire.
As hard as it is, I have to agree. His voice struggles. I don't recall him having this many issues at my show although he did struggle with some higher notes. It's a shame, but it is what it is...
Their Pearl Jam nod. Great groove, great song. Tight as hell here. The way Geddy sings "Criticize me" (speaking of which) at 0:41 reminds me of Bill Murray in Stripes. "UHHHArrrmy training, sir!" The frequency of bass changes almost became a Vanna White thing. "What will Geddy play next?” Between the Wheels of Fortune?
I find it really odd that they created this very elaborate stage design, with the whole thing being de-aged as it goes… But when they put out the official film version of the show, they don't even really focus on what's happening with the design. In this song you can see in the background that someone is pulling a faceplate off of Geddy's keyboard... But they don't bother to have a close-up of that?! For those who didn't get to see it live, they don't really get to experience it. Weird misstep in the DVD direction.
Would’ve preferred they didn’t skip Test for Echo and played the title track over the 500 Clockwork Angels and S&A songs they played to start this show. T4E was a #1 rock radio hit and they only played it one tour. Deserved to be played again and this was perfect chance. Even Driven would’ve been ok. I also would’ve also preferred a deep cut like Cut to the Chase from Counterparts or resurrecting Nobody’s Hero over playing Animate again. Thought Animate was played out when they played an abbreviated version of it on the R30 tour. Anyway, never liked this set 1 on this tour. Clockwork Angels set 1 was bold and exciting, this isn’t. My bitchin’ is just beginning 🐾
Hey Justin - since we are going through all the basses, I got curious... Do they hold their intonation, or have you had to adjust the neck of any of your basses at some point?
They were surprisingly tight here on this difficult song. Kudos.

There's something really weird about seeing Geddy play a thunderbird lol
I love this song but if they were doing rarities I wish they would have done Cut to the Chase
💯
My favorite Neil Peart opening to a song since Digital Man in 82! Excellent! Plus I like the Geddy Funk sound throughout this song!
Yes
Brilliant rendition love the volume control and the filters. Can't imagine this was the last tour. We all thought it, but you always live in hope.
Animate gives me chills every time I hear it, what a crazy outro to a song!
Great song!! Enjoying the bass search as much as the concert!! LOL! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
one of their best, glad they did that one,(counterparts) a great album,🤘🟦🤘
Neil’s fill at the end was out of this world.
One of my favorites from Counterparts and "newer" Rush (even though it's been 30 years now)

Love this song as well. ❤

They only did that on R30 tour
@@demonicadog You are correct. My old brain thought they played it live on more tours. (They should have.) 25% isn't that often. Or is it...
@@ericvonsteuben7533 Yes, it is too much. Once they abbreviated it they shouldnt even have played it that tour.

My favorite tune off Counterparts!!!
Justin(Bobblehead)Panariello 😝😝😝🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
I have seen that bass before, but, as you said on How It Is, I don't remember ever seeing that Gibson behemoth ever....

Elephant in the room. "CriteHeecize me..."
Were they surrounded by yes men at this point? "no, Geddy you sound great... still got it"

Right. But I admit I was a bit slow to catch on, even live. The final tableau I love ❤! So Rush!
Geddy's voice is DONE.
Nice.
😝😝😝🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🔥🔥🔥
😎😎🧡🧡
No apologies, love it, love it, love it. Not the best performance of the song for sure, but I love it anyway; did I say love it enough 😊❤.
Instead of the tions it’s the izes !

If they were going to do nobody’s hero, It would’ve made more sense to do it on the CA tour with the strings
@@richierich398 Yes, like a lot of other things that would’ve made sense. Animate could’ve also heavily benefitted from the string ensemble.
What’s that Bass???
Hey Justin - since we are going through all the basses, I got curious... Do they hold their intonation, or have you had to adjust the neck of any of your basses at some point?
of course yes you must adjust the neck... usually once or twice a year (with the weather).
The what bass is Geddy using tour😎
The differences is it’s not a fender!!!!!
Tough song for Ged
Nope...
