People who say its a failure just ask them to talk to any Emirates employee who worked in its management. And those who traveled with one, is there anyone who does not like its comfort?

For passengers, bigger is better as it makes the ride smoother. But, it has to built, maintained, and flown in a business environment and in this the A380 is a big failure.

Given that the various European governments completely subsidize the development of this aircraft to the tune of $25 billion; and even with that airbus lost money on this aircraft; this is a complete failure. If it isn't please somebody give me a definition of complete failure that this doesn't fit.

    • @kevinbarry71

You are a presumptuous idiot; I have flown on that plane several times. Nobody is disputing that people like it. But that's not what determines success or failure.

Exactly my friend. How is this even a question, what an unsustainable disaster this aircraft is/was. It's annoying that people don't realize this. It can't even be converted into a freighter, I mean come on.

737 Max is a complete. at least the A380 works technically ...
A380 doesn´t fit the market, but it is an incredible aircraft and all working with it are happy but the financial guys.
Of course if the only thing you consider is money, it is a failure up to now. but there is much more to that planem it also corrects the image that only boeing can do jumbos. if you consider it also as some advertisement, then it is no more such a failure.

The A380 WAS a failure in the sense of that word really matters: there was never an economic justification for building it. Well before the decision to proceed with production was made, it was clear from the available data that there was insufficient demand for such a plane; it WOULD lose money for AB. Airliner manufacturers who lose too much money go out of businesses, eventually, even those who cheat, like AB. Boeing pointed this out publicly amid criticism for its proceeding with the Dreamliner and canceling the stretched 747 because an A380 would render a new 747 unprofitable. And the A380 didn't even introduce anything that was really new. It was just a case of "fuselage envy": "They got a BIG one, so WE gotta have a BIGGER one".
Finally, the airport airport handling problem isn't the only barrier to an A380 freighter; the volume of the fuselage is too great for the weight the plane could carry; lots of empty space overhead, unless you ship only styrofoam or feathers. Too much "cube", not enough "tons"; thus the cost per ton of freight hauled would be high, owing to higher fuel consumption due to the amount of air the plane has to plow through, even if carrying its maximum weight. AND the oddball shape and inconvenient cargo door arrangement necessitated by the fuselage structure would lessen the efficiency of loading and unloading operations.
The A380 will, or should, be remembered as "The biggest plane in history that never should have been built".

What needs to investigated. . . exactly WHAT made the A380 comfortable?

Its easy, it was the cabin design and seating layout that couldn't be changed for narrower seats like what with the B777 and and B787 that were design for wider seats - 9 abreast that went to 10 abreast in the B777 and 8 abreast to 9 abreast in the B787.

Airbus COO Retiree John Leahy said the A380 design's efficiency was not optimized for the -800, rather the larger -900. But I doubt they would've sold more planes in the 600+ seat variant anyways. Had the design been optimized for the 500-550 seat capacity, the A380 would've been a success. Airlines would not need a higher-than-average load factor per flight to make a profit.

For me it just came too late compared to the 747, that´s the only thing. it is better than the 747 on all registers. Unfortunately the market has changed and the ailines do not want this type of planes (4 engines) anymore. I wonder what it will look like when the industri has fully recovered from the pandemic, will there be a market again for these type of planes ? is it worse making some update like a neo version ? At the end, the problem is to a big part due to fuel consumption, if it is more, than bigger 777 will not make sense neither for example.
