Some modern mini bus jeepneys are Japanese brand, and if they're made in Chinese factories, they are most likely subjected with quality checks, unlike Chinese brands. I rather see these on the road. Many jeepneys are 20-30 yrs old, so jerry-rigged & not roadworthy, and operators & jeepney drivers are simply milking it to the hilt for profit. It's almost like those sidewalk-vendors, making profit simply because they are paying little or nothing for their "stalls". They just can't see & accept the norm of business where everybody else pays a fair market value for renting a kiosk or store. Similar mindset was displayed when some benificiaries of those Baseco socialized housing built by Manila during Isko's time. They complaint that they have to pay P2,000 per month & yet not able to own the houses. Nevermind that P2,000 per month for a 2bdrm townhouse is way below market rate. And that such amount is only good for boarding house for everyone else. In addition, these housing beneficiaries are, in the end, getting "free housing" since all the accumulated rental payment will be returned to them when they move out. They're comparing it to zero monthly rental for shanties they build illegally.

Under the old arrangement, each was an owner/operator and the cash received went into their pockets with outgoings coming from their pockets. What sort of system will be in place to ensure they don't steal from each other? I haven't heard any suggestions as to how that's handled but it would appear fundamental to it succeeding. There were such systems in place in the west 100 years ago

Many jeepneys are 20-30 yrs old, so jerry-rigged & not roadworthy, and operators & jeepney drivers are simply milking it to the hilt for profit. It's almost like those sidewalk-vendors, making profit simply because they are paying little or nothing for their "stalls". They just can't see & accept the norm of business where everybody else pays a fair market value for renting a kiosk or store. Similar mindset was displayed when some benificiaries of those Baseco socialized housing built by Manila during Isko's time. They complaint that they have to pay P2,000 per month & yet not able to own the houses. Nevermind that P2,000 per month for a 2bdrm townhouse is way below market rate. And that such amount is only good for boarding house for everyone else. In addition, these housing beneficiaries are, in the end, getting "free housing" since all the accumulated rental payment will be returned to them when they move out. They're comparing it to zero monthly rental for shanties they build illegally.

Whilst I support the modernization, I dont agree to phase out. For one, Jeepney us already part of our culture and dun din tau nakilala sa mundo. My suggestion is to improve yun Jeepney, gawan bg engineering design to make it safe. Cguruhin na bago mga makina, kun pede na gawin hybrid. Suguruhin that underchassis includibg brake system undergo engineering design to make it safe. But maintain the basic look. Not only mas mura but makatulong din tau sa pag improve ng Car/transpo Industry whilst maintaining the iconic Jeepney.
