- Sparkly rainbows, anyone? :) This is one of my baby's favorite songs, so I wanted to share it with all of you. It's a traditional North American folk lullaby that has many variations (and origin theories, some of which are absolutely heartbreaking), but this is how I sing it to my daughter. I hope you enjoy it too. ❤

So magical and tender and so full of love. This is the kind of special present your daughter will treasure for the rest of her life.
Gorgeous!! xxx
What a sweet thing to say, thank you so much! ❤️ I'm smiling from ear to ear now. :)
My earliest memory is of my mother's voice and this song.
Chandra614 I wish I had a mum that cared Nd loved me enough to sing to me wen I was that young. :,(
The same for me
Did the horses?
As is mine, this made me cry.
Same
Me trying to put my 3year old to nap... my 3 year old: “mama, who sings this?”
Me: “thats a fairy singing you a lullaby.”
Now she won’t go to sleep without the fairy singing to her.
Is there a way to get this song on a loop without having to restart it all the time? Asking for a friend ;)
That is just so sweet! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you for sharing. And yes, you can stream this song on Spotify, or get it from iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, or Deezer!
Ashley Serena omg! On Spotify! Thank you sooo much ... this is a life saver!
Wow, your baby is so lucky to hear that voice every day. I have Goosebumps everywhere! ☄🐎
My mother sang this as my first lullaby. Seven years ago, I sang it to my daughter as her first lullaby. ❤
Her voice just calls to me, lulls me to sleepiness. A magical melody very sweet and soft.
If I ever have a baby in the future, this will certainly be one of the lullabies I’ll sing to them, even in the womb
Prettiest version of this song I’ve heard!
::Swoons and melts and disintegrates:: You. I just. No words. Top stunning quality, ALL THE TIME.
You're just the sweetest, thank you! ❤️
Please do a lullaby album, thank you.
Your version is my 5 year old's daughter's favorite. Such a beautiful voice!
This was my favorite lullaby when I was small, and apparently it still is ^^
Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed! I've been hearing about all sorts of versions people grew up with and it makes me happy my variation is still okay for them. :)
My wife and I heard this on a rerun of Dr Quinn Medicine Woman the other day she was singing her youngest to sleep and just love this little tune! Great job singing it!!
First time i heard this song was from flicka favorite memory of my child hood my father was sober and loved this movie
I remember listening to this song when I was little and now it's the nunber one song on the bedtime playlist I made for my daughter! Your version is the closest I could find to the CD I had when I was little and it brings back so memories! Your voice is so amazing and lovely and such a joy to listen to! My littke girl loves listening to your songs too! Even on the toughest nights sleeping listening to your music calms her down.
Beautiful!
This song brought back memories, sung as an alto in this on an SSA arrangement in choir
Celestial Voice ...I love you Ashley
I remember this song from Flicka! I used to sob so much and would fall asleep to this song almost every night. I still could fall asleep to it now and your voice is just so beautiful! Amazing!
Beautiful!!
Oh wow now this takes me back
Very beautiful , and pretty too.
The voice of an Angel
My daughter can't sleep well without this song and I just got laryngitis 🙃 thanks for saving my bacon!!
Omg I love this song!! ❤️❤️ I would always sing this song to my horses when I first listened to it in the movie Flicka 😍😍😍😍 amazing job!!!
Dude! This is awesome! (I think i've been listening to it over and over for a half hour now)
this brings back so many memories :) my dad used to sing this song to me when i was little, but he didnt have as great a voice ;)
I was wondering for the longest time what this song was called. So beautiful
this is so soothing. thank you.
This song always made my spine tingle. IDK why, but I find it scary. I think it sounds more like a dirge than a lullabye, but that's just mho. You do have a lovely voice. I might have to check out some of your other work.
finally i was looking for a giod version of this song to help me pratice for my concert
btw this is really beautiful ❤️
OMG this is soo beautiful... did you ever consider doing "mother earth and father time" from Charlett's Web? I think you would be perfect for it.... as well as "Feed the birds" from Marry Poppins!😍
Those are lovely songs, thank you for the suggestions! ❤️
MY GOD WHAT GORGEOUS VOICE. Are you famous? If not, WHY???!##!! Really I mean it. All these overrated singing competition shows packed with squeaky weak thin whiners or bellowing belters & their stupid vocal hystrionics ... Uugghh! But you my dear - I could listen to you sing for hours. WHAT A GORGEOUS VOICE!!!
Wow, thank you so much! ❤
Ashley Serena Your totally welcome
Brett Hirschi couldn't of said that better myself!! She is to pure though for Hollywood wouldn't want to see that ugliness get a hold of her!
Belíssima voz
love you bunches ashley you are very beautiful by the way
🇧🇷💚💛💙
Magnifique \( ^ ^ )/
So underrated, beautiful, powerful flowing voice
I imagine Jeff the killer getting pissed then falling asleep btw the "go to sleep" is his signature line
If "my little pony" was "dead space"
I sing this version to my 9mo daughter and it calms her down straight away. Such precious moments with my angel ❤️
Coming back to this with my 2 months old son ❤️ peacefully fslling asleep in my arms like a little angel
So pretty!I wouldn't be surprised if your little girl grows up to be an amazing singer like her mom!
One of the lullabies I think my own mom would play to put me to sleep. And now someone has down a very awesome cover of it! Well done.
I have to sing this song tomorrow for a readers theater thing we are doing in class and I'm really nervous
Sending you all the luck and good thoughts! I've never gotten over my stage fright, even when performing in front of family and friends, but a trick I like to do is mentally block out the people in front of me and lose myself completely in the song. My high school drama teacher once told me, "your audience wants you to succeed! They didn't come to watch you fail, they're rooting for you!" ❤️
What a precious voice! What beautiful harmony with the tracts. Surely this would soothe the heart of any child and root itself in their heart.
I looked up this song since it is my favorite lullaby. I can't believe the beautiful voice you have. This is one of the many songs you have done on my daughter's night night playlist. I started playing your songs before she was born. She listened to this in the NICU. She will be 2 in February. She still loves your song's. Thank you.
This is beautiful, thank you for sharing! Sending love to you and your daughter! ♥️
My mother used to sing this to me when I was little. So beautiful. It makes me have good memories of my younger years. I can almost fall asleep listening to this.
Moonshine Duskheart you where very lucky to have a mum who sang to you. :,( I was an abused child an only child who had no one nd was scared most times.
Have you ever watched the movie called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? It would be wonderful if you could do a cover for Hushaby Mountain. I know you could definitely sing it beautifully.
I love that song so much! Thank you for the recommendation. ❤️
absolutely beautiful, one of my favorite songs, and you did it so well!
Love it! Music video always makes my day :)
For some reason I come back to this song over and over again! And you have such a pretty smile so I hope that you smile a lot in your life! Big hugs to you :)
I always love reading your thoughts on my songs, thank you so much for your kindness! ❤️ This comment made me smile! 😊
This is so caming
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG AFTER I HEARD A SNIPPET!!
Sherri Huffman did a whole cassette tape back in the late 80's of lullabies...this is one of those I adore
Wonderful, Ashley! I love it! I wish you could make more covers or produce more music because your voice is amazing.
Thank you, I'm trying! ❤️
I remember this song a little differently. England could not have become the country we all think of as 'British' if not for its horses and ponies. One purpose of the song was to instill names of breeds as possible into a child at the earliest age. This is the reason why some people today sing "Pretty little horses" and others sing "Pretty little ponies." The song has both. It also accounts for why there is variation in remembered lyrics. One verse was, "Way down yonder, in the meadow, Birds and Butterflies Flutter ["By" or "'round their eyes."]. As the horses danced and pranced (enjoying life, you see). "Jive" used to mean "a lively dance".
I am way too old to accurately remember this lovely, lilting nursery song and all folk songs vary in lyrics. Here's how I remember part of it.
All the Pretty Little Horses
Hush-a-bye,
Don't you cry
Go to sleep my little baby.
When you wake,
You shall take*,
All the pretty little horses.
Blacks and Bays
Dapples and Grays**
Coach and six-a-little horses
Hush-a-bye,
Don't you cry,
Go to sleep my little baby.
Way down yonder,
In the meadow,
Birds and butterflies
Flutter by.
Painted and Bays,
Chestnuts and Grays.
Swiftly running through their courses.
Hush-a-bye,
Don't you cry
Go to sleep my little baby
When you wake,
You shall take
All the pretty little horses
Kicks and jives,
Sparkle in their eyes
Dancing, Prancing
Little horses.
Shires and Bays,
Palominos and Grays,
Swiftly running through their courses.
Hush-a-bye,
Don't you cry
Go to sleep my little baby
When you wake,
You shall take
All the pretty little horses
Fells and Dales,
Shetlands and Bales.
(Do-do-do-da)
Little ponies.
* The verses rhyme and that's why baby 'take'[s] the little horses instead of 'have' the little horses. A "coach and six" meant baby would be rich someday.
** This lullaby used to list as many breeds as possible and yet still rhyme. However my over the years Blacks&Bays, Dapples&Grays came to be the best remembered list as "Bays" and "Grays" are an easier rhyme to remember.
• Stallions, Painted, (Pintos, Palominos)***, Shetlands, and Chestnuts were included but I've forgotten how. Also the "Coach and six-a-little horses" did something "through their courses". Prances? Galloped? Swiftly running?
*** Additionally, one of the horse breeds is indigenous to America and so was not in the original old English song. Was it Pintos or Palominos? So I substituted 'Shires' as they are very strong horses used to carry beer to pubs. Bales were a poor breed from Abyssinia known for being swayed-back and having large bellies.
So your fav word is " hush"?...
Cute.
Thank you for an awesome song, I had forgotten this song until I heard it.
❤
Na minha opinião é a voz mais doce do mundo uma fada cantando
Ashley please sing Priscilla's song from the witcher pleeeeeeaseeeeee
It would be awesome to hear you sing Swedish Cradle Song.
Anyone have the guitar chords for this version?
This is one of the my most fondest memories with my mom from my childhood. I'm in tears.
I used to sing this to my two baby girls when they were younger when we were getting ready for bed. Brings back some very special memories.
I believe this is by far my favorite version of this lullaby. Thank you for the beautiful experience
This was sung in the film Flicka. Though the word horses was switched for ponies.
I sang this song to both my sons...it is some time ago, but they still love it. And either do I. Thanks ...
You have a very pretty voice
My mom used to sing this to me! (Slightly different version)
So magical! I have goosebumps listening to this.
this was my lullaby as a child!
