I played this for my dad the night he was passing away from cancer at hospital i was next to him holding his hand playing this for him. Was last moment i shared with my father.

Knowing that you cared for Him so, doesn't make the pain slip away but know: you can still carry a part of Him with you till you yourself pass. After all: the only way someone truly dies, is when we forget them entirely and feeling that notion allows us to never truly let go of who they are and what they truly mean to us. Notice I do not speak past tense and why? To emphasize my point.

This whole record [Matchbox Twenty's Platinum-winning *Something to Be*] was kind of made under duress. The entire time I was working on it, my wife was really sick, and dealing with that made the record itself not the most important thing in my life. It was good in that way because I completely trusted my instincts. I would just come into the studio, and if a song sounded really good, I would just walk away from it so I could get home to whatever was going on. “Now Comes the Night” is about death and being less scared to face it with someone by your side.… And I get the added bonus of going out and screaming the lyrics, which feels so good, man. You know, not a lot of people get paid to go through primal scream therapy.

First and foremost, thank you to your father, and thank you to rob for recognizing and honoring him...... damn.... if only the rest of the world could be this way, every day.

This song brings me to tears every time I hear it. I think it is helping me get better. I’ve been gone from home so long, finding now at this point of my life ( 66 years old) that many of the people I loved and cared for, are no longer with us. Spent more than half my life out of the country, all the losses feel like only yesterday. People don’t make the same mistake I made, stay in touch with those you care about. I’ve had a great life many adventures , memories and accomplishments, very few regrets. Wish I could have been there for my friends and family. Only good thing is it’s never too late to reach out. If you are reading to the end , thank you. I apologize for rambling on. But maybe I’ve helped someone else I hope. Best regards K.

I have lost my father and I my brother is fighting a loosing battle with the same cancer that took my father. I listen to this song and think of the crossing over, how painful it is for those of us left behind, but knowing their pain is over and I will always have their memories......

Yes this is rich. This one will be part of my mom's memorial service as well - coming up her on 2/8/14. Condolences to you Tracy, Mark, and Kelli. And everyone down the list. RT has a knack of putting out that stuff that makes you hang on every word, and wait on every note. We can all just enjoy the sounds, the words, the lives affected. Just revel in the feelings, the emotions, and the joy/pain.

I'm so sorry about your lose. I sadly know the feeling since also the first time I heard it was the day we buried my grandma (who was like a mother to me).
But it will always make me remember her and how much she loved me and I also thought thatw as her telling me she was ok and will look for us from wherever she is now.
Only Rob can make something so dark so beautiful. The people in his life are extremely lucky to be there.

My dad passed in Sep.2000 and at 6:26am (at home) of cancer.And the morning of at 4am - 6:26am was a morning that's forever in my memory, In the first part of this song he said "when the hour is upon us" and those word take me back to that morning. I was 13yrs old and I feel that its not getting any easier, I need him more and more. But there are parts of this song that tell me to stay strong even if I am all alone, I must STAY STRONG.
I feel so damned blessed to feel this way about someone, to have that person feel the same way about me.

Got this album when I was workin in Texas, listened to it all the time on 11-12 hour drives to work.....made me think of all the people I have lost..and how they are still remebered no matter how long, friends gone, family lost and he took it all home!!!!...what a song...thank you
I played this beautiful song at a funeral for a friend who lived almost his entire life in an institution for people with disabilities. He lived 78 years with cerebal palsy. He never walked nor talked but he had such a beautiful mind. He felt music with all his senses. I was one of his caregivers. We never left his side as while he slipped into peaceful slumber. This song still brings me comfort. Beautiful Rob Thomas.

Beautiful song reminds me of my gma. I was with her in the hospital when she died. She kept going in and out of consciousness and every time she opened her eyes I was right there to greet her with a smile and hold her hand. Didnt let her cry or be afraid. When we thought it was over, she opened her eyes once more. This time, she was confused and didn't remember where she was or how she got there. I did my part again. Smiled. Held her hand. Didn't let her down. I smiled and held her hand until she was gone. Then it was my time to cry. Miss my gma... 5/1/17

this could just be one of the saddest songs ever composed.. whilst listening to this heartfelt lyrics it dawns to me all of my love ones who were gone now.. twas making me feel very sad... the composer must have crucial moments dealings with lost loved ones hence his emotions were captured in this one song that he wrote...
