Angry Customer Throws Food on Me | DoorDash | Uber Eats Delivery

  • We were out on the delivery apps for 1/20/24, for an early dinner shift. Our first delivery went really sideways. The customer ordered a burger and fries, but he said the fries were not the correct size. Obviously, as you can see, he got angry.
    First, I don't know the legality of recording on someone's property - especially in a negative light. Outside of that, this is a small town and I don't want to hurt anyone. I am not hurt. Sometimes people get upset, even with things outside of our control. It is an interesting video, but not worthy of getting a person in trouble for a lapse of judgement.

    This is why I don't make contact with the customers, even when they ask. I just drop the food off on their porch and dip. I got too much anger pent up in me to deal with that type of bs

      Most customers are very nice, but it does suck that a few mess up the trust we have for people overall.

      I agree I have too much anger too and I would’ve snapped right back at him. Honestly I carry a 45 with me every day all day so I don’t know how that would’ve ended. Probably pretty bad but that’s the reason why I do the same thing that you do, even if they ask to hand it to them I usually just send them a picture through the app and text them where I left it and I leave now if they opt out of text messaging like they usually do, I usually give them a five minute timer to get my picture it may escalate their problem or possible anger but that’s on them not me

    Should definitely report that guy, if this is how he treats drivers, who have literally no control of the food prep process, then he needs to be banned. This guy doesn’t deserve the convenience of delivery. Next driver might catch more than hot fries.

    Smart to have a camera on you for interactions just like this. You definitely should have contacted support bc that behavior is concerning and he might actually hurt someone one day

      Or he could possibly be the one that’s hurt you have to understand there’s a lot of drivers that carry firearms for this reason obviously you can’t shoot him for throwing food at you. It’s still assault, but it’s not life-threatening, but there are people out there that probably would’ve drawn their gun on him for that, so not just for the drivers sake, but for his sake as well, don’t think he needs to be on the platform anyway

    Something similar like this happened to me! Upon delivering he tells me to "hold on sec" and as he was opening I explained the same thing I just go off of matching the order on the app with the receipt WE CANNOT OPEN the bag once it's sealed and any mistakes need to be taken up with Ubereats and restaurant. Then he got upset and lunged at me thankfully I'm quick on my toes and avoided it, ran to my car and drove off and called support. For all the Dashers and Uber Eats out there as soon as you feel threatened managed that distance and create space be safe out there

    I think you should report that to support, as behavior like that is not ok, and by not doing something you are showing this man it's acceptable to treat others the same because he has yet to be thumped. He should not be allowed to even receive delivery, he should be deactivated for throwing food at you. What if he does something worse to the next driver.
    I get your in a small town, but that should not be overlooked and I am also glad you were not hurt

    I personally would NEVER drive for a 3rd party delivery service. Too many hoops and hassles and generally bad customers. I would be seriously pissed if someone threw food on me.That one reason I could never do that job
    I 1099 contract out to a small deli/fruit stand north of Boston that does fruit baskets and catering and offers a delivery service. I and one other person handle all the deliveries. We are paid a set rate...the farther we drive the more we get. I have been into Boston a few times to hospitals and office buildings.(these trips pay well...but not as well as a trip to Nahant I get $60 for that)
    Most customers tip very well. Some situations I have been in proper etiquette (like delivering a gift meal to a grieving family from one of their friends) is not expect a tip and to politely refuse if one is offered unless they "insist" then I will accept it. I have only had one bad customer and all she was mad about was that I was 15 minutes late to the delivery because of a wreck

      That is a pretty cool gig you have working for the deli. I am going to research and see if there is anything like that around here.
      Look into Zifty. There are some really good catering orders in Boston.

    Sometimes they do it on purpose to belittle other people because they want you to feel bad to get you to give them a compensation.
    You should have reported that customer's rude behavior to your delivery company you signed up with.
    If enough driver's report the customer, they will not tolerate rudeness towards drivers and ban the customer unless they want to loose drivers.

      *Sorry that happened to you. I hope that guy didn't get a meal replacement. He is a child. I just go through customer service and get a replacement meal on the company. Or replacement item. Depending on what is messed up.*

    That was so disrespectful! I understand why you wouldn’t want to make an issue of it but I would let the app know if you value working for them. They will deactivate you in a millisecond when the customer complains about you and lies etc. Russ

      After watching my clips, I am kind of robotic in what I say and do in each delivery. You get so programmed after so many deliveries, and I was kind of stunned as well. It wasn't something I was expecting at the moment. I was more pissed off after.

    I dont mark it as delivered until I am either half way back to the car or already in the car. Plus, if it were me, I dont think I would be as tolerant. More or less, his burger would have been smeared and left on his door and in his car. Heh

    Customer is rude, delivery drivers cannot break the seal to verify the order.
    Delivery drivers don't work for restaurants, they don't make your food, and don't bag them.
    They only pickup customer's order and deliver to customer's door.
    Don't take out your frustration and disrespectful on delivery drivers.
    They don't get paid enough for the "emotional damage" and rudeness!

      A lot of people don't know what all is involved. Maybe they think we place the order, bag it, etc. when we do none of that. Or, sometimes people just act crazy and irrational.

    You get customer that throws food at you, I get customer that verbally insults me and my intelligence!
    I think all drivers get their share of rudeness and disrespect.
    Just remember which ones cause you alot of headaches and stay away from that order request next time.
    You get their order and you can never break seal, why take their order , so they can treat you like crap because you have no way to check for order correctness?!

I used to work AT MCDONALD'S I remember going into work and some people would just go to Mcdonald's to tell off the people at the front, like they went there to harass them and be like you're so stupid, that's why you work at mcdonalds, cant you get anything right, shit like that. Some of my coworkers would cry. I'm serious

    I would call LEO. Unless of course you are okay with people assaulting others? THIS IS NOT OKAY. You are okay. But the next person may not be. Wouldnt you feel guilty if this customers hurts someone the next time? He had no right to do that and you should not condone customers assaulting drivers.
