Wooden Boat Building Ep. 14: Steam Bending Wood

We had great fun building this wood bending contraption. I am pretty sure the end-result could have been pretty much similar even without the steam but I learned a lot: need more steam, need better enclosed chamber, need better pot with no steam escaping.

I checked to see if I had missed any of your vids a couple of days ago, Cap'n, so this was a nice surprise. Like the way you steamed the wood. I used a roll of food bag that you heat seal for food and a wallpaper steamer when I did my rails. I do like the way the wood moves when it is steamed and you can always do it again if it doesn't go right at first. It was a fun film to watch too. Atb.

@@wulkie I steamed my rails: 20mm x 40mm red hardwood, like a soft mahogany for 2 hours. I think the steam box is better insulated than the bag is and so more efficient, but I went for the easier set up.
