Good ear pointing out the guitar going nuts near the end. I really do enjoy these mystery 45 RPM single reactions, because it goes back to my fascination with them from my youth. It was literally the first vinyl that I was able to start buying in grade school, usually for a penny or so for a worn out 45 that's all scratched up at a yard sale or something. But it connected me with prior generations because that was the main currency forever, 45 RPM singles, and in particular they were what was used in jukeboxes all across the country. Whether it was in restaurants or bars or wherever, it was a way to hear music on demand rather than waiting for your favorite song to come on the radio. If you've never seen one in action, you've got to check it out. Even on RUclips if nothing else. It seems so mechanical and clunky, especially compared to digitally streaming a playlist today, laugh, but it's pretty amazing for the time and it had a whole culture that evolved right along with it. Not only would the records skip now and then just like anywhere else, but sometimes people would be dancing and bump up against it, either accidentally or on purpose, and it would cause the needle to jump or audibly scratch (decades before scratching in the DJ sense) while playing the little 45 RPM single that it had selected from several that are stored inside the jukebox. 😂
I had never heard Take Me to the Pilot. I enjoyed it! I’ve really only known Elton’s most famous songs because some of them seem to be part of our cultural construct now. Great reaction!
Great song - one of his many classics. You’ve been getting some pretty cool stuff lately on your ‘Mystery Music Mondays’ video music reviews, what with The Beatles and now Elton John. Always look forward to these reviews of yours Silas.
It is amazing that Elton grew up in one of the most mundane towns in Southern England....he spiced up that town by becoming chairman of the local football team , Watford FC ...under him they managed to put Watford on the map by reaching the FA Cup Final in 1984.
Both songs come from the second self-titled album 1970. There are fantastic live versions of both songs on his live album Here(London)&There (MSG NY) 1974, which was released as a DLCD in 1996. These are the only two songs that are available twice. MSG NY is the legendary concert where John Lennon appeared as a guest with 3 songs including Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds; the EJ single was US no.1 at the time👍✌.
It looks like Google messed up. Elton first came out in the October 7, 1976 issue of Rolling Stone magazine with him on the cover. You can find the article online. He said he was bisexual, not strictly gay, but even that was a HUGE deal at the time in the US. He did say years later how it caused a big backlash against him in the US, but not enough to kill his career permanently there. In the UK and Europe it wasn’t a big deal. He did marry a woman who was a close friend on Valentines Day in 1984, and it lasted 4 years. His excellent autobiography “Me” is definitely worth reading and he tells all about his struggles with his sexuality and his life in general.
You should also check out something totally different than most of the the bands you check out 😉 The artist/band with the most subs on youtube!!! Soon 100 millions! a amazing band called Blackpink!👩🏻👩🏻👩🏼👩🏻💥🔥

Thats a hidden gem. I'm not gonna lie Silas, been a few decades since I heard it. 😂
Still great classic EJ! 💞

You can’t go wrong with Elton John
Great times! I was a sophomore
Both songs got plenty of air play back then. So a double A 45 maybe.
Had not heard the 2nd one for over 40 years. He came out as bi in 1976.
Love Your Song, but never heard the other one.
Your thinking of Aloe Blacc - The Man song 🎹🙏
Elton officially ''came out'' as gay in 1988, but revealed it to Rolling Stone Magazine in 1992, not sure how that makes sense, but blame Google..
