    If George Harrison's contribution to music wasn't enough, the world of comedy also owes him respect for bankrolling Monty Python's Life of Brian.
    When Harrison told Eric Idle he'd put up the money for the film's production after reading the script, Eric asked him why.
    His response, "I want to see the movie."

According to the story, George looked in his direction and feebly quipped, "So how do you like the job so far?"

      Here Comes the Sun, was described by George Martin, who is arguably one of the most qualified people to know about such things as, the greatest pop song of all time.
      Personally it's my favorite Harrison song from his time in the Beatles. But I think his best work was with the Wilburys. Perhaps Jeff Lynne's production favoured the songs, perhaps he saw Harrison as being equal to everyone else rather than his lower status in the Beatles, perhaps he was just more comfortable with himself by then, I don't know but as much as I love Beatles music, George didn't get a fair share of the record space, whereas in the Wilburys he was very much an equal amongst greats.

    I think George Harrison is a big part of why the Beatles made it as far as they did as a band after the band manager, Brian Epstein, died. George would stay behind in the studio, working on the albums and making sure that they could be completed, while John Lennon would do things, like go off and have a lost weekend with Harry Nilsson.
    I think the Beatles were better when they broke up and had solo careers. Each one of their talents was able shine without having to fight about who's songs go on the albums and where. For those that liked this video, I would recommend the Martin Scorsese directed documentary; Living in a Material World and of course the new six part documentary series Get Back. 😌

    • @JonahNelson7
      @JonahNelson7 2 года назад +10

      George is a factor by definition of why they kept up their output after Brian died, but anyone who's seen their dynamic can see Paul became the engine full stop. Every management, directional, and artistic choice was his after 1967. In Get Back you even see he didn't want to be, but he had to be. Ringo and George were just playing what they were told, and John really backed off. So yeah of course George was a part of why it happened, because he was a wheel on their train. Paul was the engine
      Their output as solo artists was definitely not better, both by the numbers and by critical reception

    My favourite of George's songs is Crackerbox Palace. The opening bars give me a strong feeling of deja vu, or something like it, and I'll never get tired of the song.
    I've loved George since I was 11yo and wanted him to be my dad instead of the one I had who left us when we were small. I'd sit and gaze at the cover of the Let It Be album. It must have been fate that all my other interests led back to George in some way, such as my love of Monty Python and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. When George died I queued for four hours at St. George's Hall in Liverpool to sign the memorial book. As you went up the steps there was a Hare Krishna group playing Indian music. Far from being a sad occasion, it was life affirming. I'll always love George and his oddly evocative tunes.

      The hate of long hair thing in America always made me laugh. For almost all of human history long hair on men was a way of showing the community you are hygienic disciplined and someone of value to society assuming you took time to wash an maintain it. Taking care of long hair means taking time to clean and brush it. It also means dealing with the extra heat it creates an putting it up when working. The frist thing I'd do in a bad situation like war or EMP event is cut a lot of my hair off yeah that is kinda lazy of me but survival in such situations can be decided by second's wasted moving hair out of eye's or trying to see through it. I must say though after it gets long enough it acts as some kind of antenna lol I know that sounds nuts but it's something often talked about in history by those who had long hair at some point.

    George did not graduate from the Institute - he left. In fact, it was a little bit of time before his father found out. In fact, they attended an audition at Decca - no tape was sent to them - on January 1, 1962. Brian used the tape, later transferred onto vinyl for ease of hawking around London to various record companies after Decca had turned them down, opting instead for Brian Poole & The Tremeloes.

    George was the most talented of the Beatles, but it was always John and Paul leading. I think that the band breaking up was the best thing for them all. Ringo became a solid character actor. John was so manic and inspired that J.Edgar Hoover put him on "the list ". Paul went on to discover BADFINGER and he and that nice lady he was married to formed a kick-ass band called WINGS.
    And George wrote beautiful Vedic hymns that will be played on the radio forever.

Without Bill Haley & the Comets, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly & The Beatles, the world would be a much different place. To have walked the earth and left a mark that his and future generations can easily recognise, is probably the greatest achievement any person can have. Thank you Mr. Harrison for your contribution to popular culture. You were, are, and will always remain, a legend and an inspiration. Maybe it was the fates making some sort of recompense that George Harrison had the most successful solo career of the Beatles.
