The drumming is very creative. Putting the whole "miming" schtick into it all. Brian is way awesome. The smaller the group, the more complex/intricate the drumming can be. For the same reason a jazz combo sounds different than a swing band. I want Brian to become rich and famous in the future. Dresden Dolls are done right now- I'm sure they've both made enough on this project (3 albums and constant touring) to get by for a while. Both can do what they want.
This performance is just phenomenal. Astonishingly, gut-wrenchingly good. It's like they took everyone's subconscious fears and wants and wrapped them into a medieval carnival on the side of the road shamelessly for all to see. I am amazed. There is hope as long there are musicians willing to be this honest. Wow.
I love his drumming style, he finds ways to fit all these little flairs and flourishes into what could have been just a pretty straight forward drum pattern in the hands of a lesser artist. Listen closely and you'll realize that the piano is the time keeper and the drums are telling the story. Excellent.
In around 2003, with out ever hearing of them before, I went to see them on a whim simply because the singer of ThouShaltNot, Alex, told me they were his favorite band. That night I bought their first two cd's and got them both signed and a kiss on the cheek from Amanda. Best way to be introduced to a band, ever.
It's not autobiographical. In the companion for the album, she talked about how as a teenager (when the bulk of the songs from the debut were written) she was fascinated by these dark scenarios of sexual abuse, self-harm, etc. The second one was based off experience, tho. It's also where the song slide comes from. Imo, that one is worse than missed me.
i love the moral ambiguity of the lyrics. obviously the mister is in the wrong for getting involved with a minor, but the narrator starts off by sounding like an innocent child and then through the song starts to sound more manipulative, as if she's come to love her abuser and doesn't want him to leave. very interesting.
Sadly it's a regular dynamic in abusive relationships... Frankly, that's why I say to all people, if they are kids, leave them alone... When you get involved with immature young people, you will have immature, unhealthy relationships & then the kid will become crazy to varying degrees... I have no pity for adults getting into relationships with kids & suffering for it. I can't count how many times I've seen this kind of dynamic play out... Kids are not emotionally or mentally capable of being in sexual relationships with adults, the results are what they are... Though I love the song, it really understands the dysfunctional dynamic that warps any involved in it. Oh & all you who think that kids aught to have sex with adults... Sure, rant your head off at me... Please include any names, identifying details, locations, etc... I am more then happy to hear your confessions. Adam
i always thought of it as a guy getting involved with a mentally ill/unstable woman and being careless about her feelings and state of mind. he saw the relationship as more of a temporary thing while she wanted and assumed it was something more intimate and long-lasting. so he basically screwed her over and she's relapsing... if that makes sense?
@@ticklemeepickle123 What I had always heard was that it was the story of the relationship she had with her piano teacher when she was a young girl. He was acting very inappropriately, and she told her sister in confidence about what happened, who in turn told her parents. She was upset when everything happened, being confused by the whole situation. Even though she knew what was happening was wrong, and he did things she didn't want, she still liked him and believed their love for each other was true. I think this experience is what gave us the Amanda Palmer that we've come to know and love.
I believe she was sobbing during this song; her makeup was certainly not streaming down her face in the beginning like it was at the end. Such a powerful song, I love her.
Lyrics Missed me, missed me, now you've got to kiss me If you kiss me, mister, I might tell my sister If I tell her, mister, she might tell my mother And my mother, mister, she might tell my father And my father mister, he won't be too happy And he'll have his lawyer come up from the city and arrest you, mister So I wouldn't miss me if you get me, mister, see Missed me, missed, me now you've got to kiss me If you kiss me, mister, you must think I'm pretty If you think so, mister, you must want to fuck me If you fuck me, mister, it must mean you love me If you love me, mister, you would never leave me It's as simple as can be Missed me, missed me, now you've got to kiss me If you miss me, mister, why do you keep leaving? If you trick me, mister, I will make you suffer And they'll get you, mister, put you in the slammer And forget you, mister, then you'll miss me, won't you? Won't you miss me? Won't you miss me? Won't you miss me? Missed me, missed me, now you've got to kiss me If you kiss me, mister, take responsibility I'm fragile, mister, just like any girl would be And so misunderstood, so treat me delicately Missed me, missed me, now you've gone and done it Hope you're happy in the county penitentiary It serves you right for kissing little girls But I will visit, if you miss me, say you miss me How's the food they feed you? Do you miss me? Will you kiss me through the window? Do you miss me, miss me? Will they ever let you go? I miss my mister so
Steven H. I don't think it is! The uploader is called Eleanora Poe! Aka the lady who used to write all those terrible newspaper articles about the Baudelaires! You know how Lemony Snicket is...I think they're fucking with us :)
HOLY SHIT I'm fucking ready. The first time I listened to this band 6 years ago it sounded exactly as I imagined the soundtrack for A Series of Unfortunate Events.
i love this! you can hear the emotion in her voice and even in the drums and piano keyboard thing :P i also think shes the only singer in the world who actually sounds good live :D that makes me happy lol
Some of Brian's facial expressions and exaggerated movements with his hands are reminiscent of Keith Moon to me. BTW Brian is an awesome drummer. He plays perfectly with the song, accenting where it needs it. Really subtle :-)
He really is amazingly talented but most people don't notice him because he is standing next to AFP... I always wondered if that contributed to their separation... Adam
I've seen a couple of interviews with them and, much as I love AFP, she really dominated the conversation. But then, Brian should have spoken up. He got a bit petulant about it, which isn't attractive in anyone, not even Brian (who is very cute, as well as being an incredible drummer). There was something about them not having spoken to each other at all prior to one tour and having not seen each other for about six months, and then getting together to rehearse before the tour started. Luckily, it all seems wonderful in Dresden Dolls paradise again and they have been gigging together. I wish they would come to the UK because I would gladly exchange my left arm for a ticket. Now that I can no longer drum myself due to illness, I probably won't miss it too much LOL!
Now that I've completed my little thesis of "Missed Me", I wish to say I love this song for the haunting cadence, the brilliant lyrics/great statement, the hellacool performance/musical mastery, and especially, the dark, angry, ever-building emotion throughout the piece with the forlorn twist at the end.
Funny thing is I was at a drag show two weeks ago at SF pride weekend. They had a female performer who did a performance to this song... Then tonight I watch the fan made trailer... And I remember I wanted to look up this song!

The drummer looks like a possessed puppet! It's such a good, wrong, sick, evil, vengeful, emotional song! Amazeballs!
I think he currently drums for Violent Femmes
Sublime45 He does, and Voltaire
the drummer is simply earning his wage & doing his job....

Makes the song that more heavy, as if she's speaking from experience 🤔
