  • A local documentary premiering at the 2024 Freep Film Festival, “The Best of the Best: Jazz from Detroit,” explores Detroit’s jazz legacy and impact on the world.
    The documentary is co-produced and written by Mark Stryker. It premieres Saturday, April 13 at the Detroit Film Theatre at the Detroit Institute of Arts during the 2024 Freep Film Festival.
    Host Stephen Henderson talks with Stryker at the Detroit Film Theatre, which is the site of the documentary’s debut during the festival. They discuss the documentary’s content, Detroit's influence on modern jazz, and the conditions that existed in the city that contributed to the sounds of jazz in the 1940s.
