    Crumbling the clutch is not what I would recommend! No one does this for them in the nature! That might damage their shells, which are still very soft. I've been breeding apple snails for almost 20 years. I would usually wait until they all break free from the clutch. Egg shell provides calcium for them , as they eat it.

    Hey snail caretakers! I wanted to let you guys know. Always check on your snails. I was on a trip, when my black mystery snail, decided to crawl out of the water. When I got back, his shell was dry and he had this mucusy stuff on him. I pushed him in the water and he didn’t move for 2 days even when I touched him. I put him in a hospital tank for 2 days and I checked the ammonia around him, and it was off the charts. He had died. My mom buried him and we payed our respects at the walnut tree, where he was buried. I had checked the tank water, and it was good, and my fish was perfectly healthy. So I guess that day he just felt like drying out.

      I have had this happen a lot,but then discovered that the snail was looking for a good place to lay it's eggs. Cause I put it back into the tank about four times, and it finally laid eggs on the underside of roof .But one other one did die from getting too dry😢.

      It's hard to loose one! Even though I have a lot of room from the water line to the top of the tank, a couple weeks ago, I heard a crash behind my tank. I knew immediately what it was! One had fallen out of the tank and broken it's shell in half on the laminate floor. I was so devastated about that. I now have boxes and other soft materials to land on so hopefully that won't happen again. I have plenty of room for the snails to lay eggs. That was just a fluke. 🤔

    • @skye9850
      @skye9850  3 года назад +1

      Yep! Its really just preference, and it depends on what you have in your tank (if they will eat the babies once they hatch and fall into the water). Lots of people incubate the clutch in order to put them in a breeder box once hatched or a different tank. Lately I have just been letting mine hatch naturally on the side of the tank where they have been layer. Hope this helps :)

But I also cannot have 100 snails in my tank!!! Can you control how many hatch? Like cutting the clutch in half? I feel terrible saying this, but... I would love to have a few more snails, just not so many. I am considering maybe getting a tank exclusively for snails? Do they naturally die off? How many survive per clutch? I have 3 snails and 3 large goldfish in the tank. (50 gallon)

      I vote the snail tank I adore mine even more then my fish aquariums not sure about a half but I dont see it hurting to do so honestly if your going 2 toss half out anyway. However I do see the goldfish eating the new hatched since there so small.
      As fot having a 100 snails in a tank you can trade them to your local fish shop for credit once there a bit bigger.
      I have around 200 snails in all my tanks but I also have pea puffers to curve them out if need be. But my snail an shrimp tank is my favorite and oddly cleanest tank even tho it stays over stocked. The water goes 6 days before it even spikes up 0.25 from 0 with a 20% water change.

      You probably have a nerite snail - they lay singular eggs around the aquarium like that. The eggs won't hatch in normal aquarium water

      Apparently they can be hard to remove. But you can try to scrape them off. To have them you need to have brackish water (salter water) but it could potentially kill other animals you have in the tank. Best option is to scrape them off or leave them as some natural decoration haha

    Is there a reason why the clutches I incubate, only the snails in the middle develop and hatch? The first time I thought it was just a one off but today the flat bottom of my clutch hatched open with lots of babies but none of the snails on top were ready or developing despite me seeing tiny dots. It’s super weird because I have tried incubating them a few different ways with the same result

    • @skye9850
      @skye9850  4 года назад +2

      Hmm, maybe there isn't enough moisture? I would suggest maybe lightly spraying the clutch once a day and see if that would help

    Hello, I bought one if these and I dont know how exactly to take care of them. Do I have to leave them on top of the water the whole time or inside the water?
    How long does it take for them to hatch?
    What do I feed them?
    Is there any requirements like temperature level etc?

    • @skye9850

      Hi! Are you talking about the snail themselves or eggs? Eggs you can leave out of the water until they hatch then the baby snails will need to be in water. It can take a couple weeks for them to hatch. They will eat what other snails eat (I recommend my video on making snello)

    • @maryjones2289
      @maryjones2289 Год назад

      Mine hatched in about 2 weeks. Female laid several clutches and only 2 hatched. One was a week later than the other. When the 1st clutch started hatching, at first I thought she was laying single eggs below the waterline, but a couple of days later, I could see they were actually baby snails. I fed them canned green beans and they are voracious eaters! They've grown so fast, too. Time to get rid of some, even though I'd like to keep them all. Tried to count a couple of times and know I have at least 96. Local fish store said they'd give a dime a piece for them. Very cool experience!

    I want more snails but I do not want them to mate because that’s gonna take so much hard work,but anyways lots of luck to the people that snail’s gave birth and if you want snail babies make sure you are ready for them and separate the mother and father from the eggs too.
