The late great Stan Lee speaking highly of the special person that Bruce Lee was…
"What made Bruce Lee special was the fact that he was a human who did extraordinary things! He was believable, he was a superhero, but the attraction was that he was real! You felt like you could be him."
Stan also stated, "It was only natural. Before Bruce Lee there wasn't much hand to hand combat, you had guys like John Wayne, and when he fought, he would use a gun or just punch guys in the face now there is much more of it."
When speaking on similarities that Bruce had with many Marvel characters, Stan expressed ... "Bruce Lee was a man of peace, he was a man of philosophy, he encouraged people to be the best they could be. He wasn't violent. In fact, that was the similarity between Bruce and many of the characters at Marvel. They weren't looking for a fight, they did their best not to get into fights."
It’s pretty clear that Bruce Lee heavily inspired Stan Lee in bringing martial arts characters into Marvel Comics. 🙏🏼

    • @andrewjohnson6716

Yes, the idea of him having an American mother was somewhat an homage to the tv show Kung Fu (which was conceived of by Bruce Lee and was originally slated to have him star in it) that ended up with Caine being a mixed kid, and the misconception that you had to somehow link a character back to white Americans to make white Americans care about them. (Which was ridiculous since Black Panther was one of Marvel’s bestselling characters at that time.) If it makes it better, fans of Shang Chi at the time (like myself) pretended that Marvel didn’t do that and just thought of him as a Chinese character.

I was a big fan and reader of Shang-Chi starting with his first comic. And I cringe at some of the changes they've made, but also because I liked the idea of him being able to retire to a fishing village, as he did for a time. (I also appreciated when his costume was basically just a pair of simple silk pajamas.) I'm also sad that his father is no longer Fu Man Chu, as I'd also read the Sax Rohmer novels, (before I learned to recognize their faults,) but I understand the need/reason for that change.

Of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe characters, this truly is my all time number one favorite!! "The Hands Of Shang-Chi.
Master Of Kung-Fu" I could remember every month spending my hard saved 15 cents buying Shang-Chi comic books! Including the issue shown! I admit, when I saw that cover, a chill ran up my spine and a tear almost fell. This is what I mostly love about superhero movies. Karate Kid was created and first appeared on July 1966 and this character wasn't inspired by Bruce Lee, because he made and first appeared his big movies from big boss to enter the dragon in the early 70s, which was very popular.
The only appearance he made in 1966 was a TV show called the Green Hornet, which is not very popular but above fairly, and he was cast second behind actor Van Williams.
