    I've owned 2 Minn Kota's. The first was the 30lb thrust C2 and it lasted until i sold it. I then got the 50lb thrust endura max. I didn't use it long enough to have an opinion on it. When I sold my lil 8 foot Sun Dolphin I had the 30lb on the front and the 50lb on the back. Great review. I have friends that have the EM and they have similar issues as yours. Hats off to Minn Kota for sending you a knew lower. Side note..... I have finally retired and moved to Utah out of California. I am going to wait until at least spring time to get a boat. It's too cold and some of the lakes around here freeze so I would need to wait to get it in the water anyway. Thanks for the channel. Fish on!!!

      Congratulations on retirement. Has to feel great. Hope you have a long and healthy retirement. Minn Kota was great to work with on the new part so I don't want to beat them up too bad. That said, they need to address the issue going forward with new motors. Looking forward to Spring already. More reviews and mods coming soon. Fish On DT.

    Thanks for the review, I was just wondering if the max technology was useful for me. After your video I I decided to buy a C2, saving money. Tks a lot

      Even with Minn Kota send me a new head unit which was nice of them, I still would buy the C2 next time. I was able to install the new head unit without issue so we will see how it goes. Thanks for watching and glad to be of some help. Fish on!

    Great review , thank you.
    I have an Intex Explorer K1 Kayak. Im looking at adding a Minn Kota 30lb - 30 inch
    C2 - 30 motor.
    Any thoughts ?
    Would the 30lb push it ok , or would you recommend a 40 or 50lb ?

      To me, I would want something very light for a kayak. I feel as though the smaller models move you around just fine. My old fishing partner had a Pelican 8e and a minn kota 30 and it more than did the job

      @@fishingwithvance Cheers for the advice .
      I can get a bundle deal from Anaconda, motor & battery to match, at an amazing price.
      Basically the battery is free.
      Anyhow , thanks for your review and advice, its really appreciated.

    I have a c2 45 lb thrust on my pelican pond prowler 8footer . It works great i think it moves 4mph in 5th. I've retired and I'm going to get a tracker xl , so i can cover more water. But understand i love my pelican and you channel. I haven't decided to get rid of my pelican, because it is so stealthy. I love it .

      That's great you are getting a tracker. Those are nice boats. Hold on to that Pelican. They still can get places they bigger bass boats can't as you know. I really and kicking around getting a fishing pontoon boat. Can't pull the trigger just yet but even if I do, I will keep the PBR. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Congrats on retirement. Fish on!

    By listening to what you are saying, I’m coming to the conclusion that Minnkota sold me a dud motor……
    I have a pelican catch 100, powered by Minnkota 55 Endura. It’s powered by a 120 lithium battery. I have two separate small batteries that handles the control panel and the fishfinder and the lights. With all my equipment and the weight of the yak I’m looking at 320/350 lbs and it Max is out at 3 1/2…4 mph….
    That really sucks the kind of money you spend on these trolling motors. I have all I the 30..45..55…
    To be honest with you, there is a difference in those three sizes. I wish Minota would make a strong motor for kayaks because at the end of the day it’s like having a little boat having a outboard.

      I can't disagree with anything you said. My original motor 40 years ago was by far the best of the 5 I have purchased. They definitely have a problem with the MAX series. Full disclosure, they provided me with a new head unit on my 44 and so far this season, it has performed perfectly. Hopefully they address this defective head unit issue. Thanks for watching K. Enjoy rest of the season.

      My question is, in Minnkota knows that there is a defect in the head? why do they continue selling the motors, knowing that it has a defect on its performance?

    • @fishingwithvance
      @fishingwithvance  2 месяца назад

      Not sure. I would imagine there has been some discussion over changes. I was able to find a ton of links, youtube videos and discussion boards over this issue they are certainly aware of it.

    As I understand the difference in trolling motor sizes, a 55 isn’t supposed to be faster than a 45 at optimal top speed. I think the 55 is supposed to be faster if you were heading into a stronger wind. The 55 might be able to go 3.5 into wind where the 45 might only get 2 or 2.5 mph. I could be wrong. I have the 45 c2 and often wish I had more power but maybe a 55 wouldn’t be much better . 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @fishingwithvance
      @fishingwithvance  11 месяцев назад +1

      I can't really say for sure Pat. I don't notice any top speed difference or really any difference when it comes to wind etc. I would much rather get weight down especially when fishing that swamp I love. The boat sits up high on the bank and makes for interesting dismounts and loading. Taking the motor off in awkward positions make the lighter ones more appealing. I probably should have just bought a 30 this time. Hopefully I can get that new control head installed on that 44. It will go back to being my main driver for sure and the 50 will get turned around for Honda trips. Thanks for watching and Happy Thanksgiving. Fish on!

      @@fishingwithvance I completely understand the weight advantage, I never take my trolling motor off. My favorite mod for my boat is the jet ski trailer I tow it with. I can back my trailer into my one car garage and keep motor, fish finder, batteries, seat and rods all on the boat. The charger can be hooked to batteries while still on the boat. So nice. Happy Thanksgiving!

    Checkout the breakdown of these two motors. Let me know your thoughts on these motors.

  • @dave8456
    @dave8456 3 месяца назад

    SPEED! Yea probably will not notice any speed difference at all. Even if you had a 100lb thrust. All because the motors are all the same RPM. (Or very close to the same RPM.) What you might notice is the acceleration up to that speed.
    What would be nice for the 55lb thrust. If you could get a different pitch prop. I am sure the 55lb thrust is barely being worked on your boat. I for sure don't know at this time. If a different pitch could be had from MinnKota. Maybe just take a heat gun. Warm up each prop fin and tweek it a little. Although you would need to do both fins fairly accurate.
    First do an Amperage draw test on original equipment. Find out the ratings for that model. If you are not up to max amp at full speed. Then you will know if you can tweek the prop.
    The Downfall! Playing with drawing more amps on the MinnKota's. Their electronics are a bit week in the shorts. Drawing max amps for very long. Will likely lead to failure of certain electronic parts. MinnKota will not replace parts on such manipulating the original operating parameters. So, it's truly at your own risk.

    • @dave8456

      @@fishingwithvance Also, if it is helpful. I was doing some research. It's best to just buy the C2 for as cheap as possible. Then when electronics crap out. Replace the power control unit with a remote 100amp peak controller. One can mount all motor speed and direction under or near the seat. Or maybe mount control switches on rudder control knob. Really wouldn't need tiller control except for tight turns. One could just cruse with rudder control. Everything could be chopped down low profile. Nearly nothing in the way.
      Also: With these PWM control units. The speed is variable. Not segmented into 5 positions. It's much smoother operating. As far as I know about these e-motors. One can buy any old motor from garage sale. Get rid of all the top control. These PWM should run any e-troller. Only with compatible amp draw ratings.

      That's a great idea. Just 2 or 3 degrees would make a huge difference. I wonder if heating the plastic prop would mess with it's temper.

    • @dave8456
      @dave8456 3 месяца назад

      @@mattdg1981 I would highly doubt that this is a type of plastic that even has temper. As far as I know and the way they look. They are just nothing more than injection molded part. Should be deformable with heat.
      Worst I can imagine will be a vibration if you don't get the pitch exactly.
      I just seen a video of people putting RC Airplane propellers on these electric drives. One big issue is that it wouldn't be a weedless setup then. If that even matters.
      But one great thing. RC propellers can be purchased in lots of different pitches. And they are only around $4 - $12.
      Hope this helps!
