I’m a collector and investor I would say. I don’t just buy stuff with the mindset of flipping it. I’ll enjoy it while I have it but everyone’s end goal is obviously to sell it one day

‘Not all investors are just in it for the money’
Hard disagree with this. You can be both a hobbyist and an investor but your investments all about pursuing capital appreciation

Consider the concept of opportunity cost in regards to investing your money. It's not whether or not Pokemon "investing" is good or bad; it is if you choose to invest in Pokemon, what opportunities are you giving up? Are you investing in traditional retirement accounts? I assume most of the audience is from America so I would ask are you investing in your 401k (index funds)? Are you taking advantage of an employer match? Are you investing in a Roth IRA (index funds)? Are you maxing out either account? I would consider putting away most of your investing dollars in traditional retirement account and devote no more than 5% - 10% of your overall portfolio to collectibles.

To be honest, I don't really agree that Pokemon investing is "generally seen as a negative thing". That hasn't been my experience at all. There are certainly people who have that viewpoint, but it's not the general consensus. Most Pokemon investors are also collectors themselves, and almost everyone who's a big time collector engages in investing in one form or another. Even if they don't call it "investing". So there really isn't a clear distinction between investors and collectors. The type of people who actively hate on investors are generally gatekeeping snobs who think anyone who cares (even the tinniest bit) about the financial side of the hobby isn't a "true" collector.

It's definitely become more mainstream which is slightly worrying.

Sorry bro but investing is about the money.. Definition: expend money with the expectation of achieving a profit or material result

I buy 2 or 3 of everything usually, and ill sell for a profit in order to hopefully get some collectibles for free or at a very cheap cost.

There's like a 100 videos for the collector bros to sook about. Just coz they are blind and can't see what's good and HOLD . They can't blame anyone BUT themselves for deciding to open a box and hit nothing.
When they get something, people go stupid and ask Facebook groups "know what this is worth?" Like as if google never existed for the last x amount of years .
    COLLECTOR bros are cringe

should define what the word "investing" is first. To me, no, its not an "investment" unless your a card shop or online store.

Card stores are not investors. That's like calling grocery stores "food investors". They're a retail business buying product at wholesale value and immediately reselling it to the end consumer at a small markup. An investor is somebody who purchases an asset to hold for the medium-long term with the expectation that the market value of their investment will increase over time.

It's a speculation rather than an investment. There's no underlying cash flows so you're just having an educated guess on future popularity.

@@uthmanibn-jafar1159 card shops buy product for wholesale value and then sell at msrp. thus making the person money on their original investment. which is an investment, yes grocery stores are investments. No grocery store is in business to lose money.
