They are slightly larger than seed modules and sturdier. They even fit nicely in the trays. The roots and soil do seem to stick to the inside a bit though. Have a great week. I’m glad you left my video feeling a little bit inspired. They seemed to grow quite easily. I grew three different types this year. I will have to try again next year and see if it works as well. It’s a lot cheaper to purchase dozens of seed than dozens of plants.
Theyre beautiful! Petunias only thrive here in Texas from fall through spring. When would be a good time to plant the seeds here to get them blooming and done before the scorching summer heat?

I wasn’t sure how they would look either. I just followed the directions on the package. In fact they worked so well I picked up two other varieties and planted them a couple weeks later. You could probably plant them in a big pot if you have room inside or a climate to start them outdoors. They need several months of growing to reach flowering stage. I have had self seeded ones come up late in a flower bed before.
I’m sorry you’ve had trouble with them germinating. Was the seed old? I find older petunia seeds more difficult to germinate. They may take longer or not germinate at all.

Now I need to order new seeds 😁. 2. I’m questioning my light setup. Last year I added some LED single tube, two rows LEDs lights, and I’m having problems with some plants. It seems like there is too much light. I was successful germinating petunias in 2017, but under a CFL light bulb. Perhaps I should dig out my old setup just for that, or add LED grow lights into my existing setup. 3. No dome. I should have used that plastic dome that keeps everything nice and moist. 4. Too much peat moss in my mix. Once peat moss dries out if forms a hard shell on top, that’s not so friendly for light needing seeds (like petunias). I already bought some coco coir, hopefully it was already washed and doesn’t have too much salt in it. Thanks for a motivation and great video ! Good luck with your garden !

Question! They were transplanted to the yogurt cups, but before going to the garden, they were in 6-pack containers. Is there another transplant in between that wasn’t shown?
At 2:52 of the video I show transplanting every other seedling into the yogurt cups. This was to allow the leaves to spread out and not compete for light. The remaining plants stayed in the trays.

As with any seedling I water when the potting mix begins to dry out. Before they get their true leaves I tend to keep the mix just moist. Petunias do grow extremely slow for the first month or two. Just when it seems they will never grow they take off. If they are turning brown I would assume they have dried out or become rotten from wet.
Hi, I've put down some petunia multiflora seeds for the summer. What i would like to know is, if I can plant the seedlings in hanging basket or should I plant in normal container pots. Also im not sure of the root system of the multiflora variety. So what should the ideal depth of the pot be ? And how many plants per pot 10 inch pot ?
Petunias are beautiful in hanging baskets and the multiflora will do just fine. With hanging baskets the larger the basket the better (Especially for depth). Hanging baskets dry out easily and petunias want consistent watering and feeding so you will have to keep that in mind. I'd say 8-12 petunias would make a beautiful display in a 12" basket. Petunias tend to get a bit long and scraggly looking after a few months in a hanging basket. The best way to remedy this is just to cut about 1/3 off of each plant every 6 weeks or so. If you are having trouble keeping the hanging basket watered tried submerging it in a large bucket of water until the soil is thoroughly soaked. If you do this once a month when the weather is very hot or windy it will help keep your petunias healthy and fresh looking longer. Enjoy your petunias this summer.

I am not at all familiar with your growing climate so I would say look at the date you want to have them growing and flowering, count back 8-10 weeks from then, that’s when you should start the seeds. I started these in March. I grew them again this year. Only had about 10% germination. I ordered new seeds and because of covid they took until Mid April to arrive. My petunias are way behind this year. Much better germination second time around this year. My average last frost date is May 19.

I checked and the site does not specifically list them as pelleted, but I’ve always received pelleted petunia seed from them. I have purchased McKenzie petunia seeds from a local store (not pelleted) and they have grown well also. Good luck.
I used your method from this video and planted an entire flat of petunias. Pelleted seeds, good quality seed starter, grow light…….and two weeks later not a single seed has germinated. 😢
The only time I’ve not had success was seed that was new that spring. Was your seed old? I find pelleted petunia seed does not remain viable for more than one season. Also, if seed is too wet it will rot, if it dries out at all after becoming damp, it won’t germinate.
It’s my understanding that the seeds require light to germinate. If you add a layer of soil on top it would need to be a very thin layer. I tried some this year with a very fine layer of vermiculite on top and had about 10% germination. I started more and did not cover them at all and I have almost 100% germination after 1 week. I would not cover them.
I have saved seeds from peppers, tomatoes, squash, pumpkin, and seed potatoes to use next year. That’s quite standard for me. This year I have purchased fresh seeds for some of my tomatoes as I feel their true varieties have been compromised through cross pollination due to close planting.

Help! I planted mine at the end of february/early March and they're still the tiniest little sprouts with 2 little leaves on each! It's like they're frozen in time! Idk what went wrong!
Petunias take forever. Give them good light (16 hours a day) and make sure they don’t dry out completely and they will eventually take off. You could try moving them to a warmer or cooler area depending on where you have them. I usually keep mine around 23C until about four leaves, then try to give them a spot 15-20C to grow after that point. It might be worth a try to adjust the temperature if it’s outside that range. I suspect they are just taking their time as petunias do. Good luck.

Also, I'm in PA, is now too late to plant more seeds now that I've learned some lessons?
Pelleted seed is seed with a clay like substance coating the seed. This makes the seed a larger size thus easier to handle, it also can help keep the seed damp longer if the potting soil dries out. It requires no special treatment, just plant the seeds like usual.
A good all purpose fertilizer is fine. In the early stages you may want something with more phosphorus to promote a healthy root system, later you may want more potassium to promote blooming. A basic balanced fertilizer is just fine though. I sometimes find my petunias benefit from a dose of fertilizer for acid loving plants to help maintain the nice green foliage. I don’t recall seeing this as an issue anywhere else so you may not need that. Seedlings should only get low (1/2 strength) doses of fertilizer.
I can’t diagnose your seedlings as there are a multitude of reasons seedlings can fail. My first guess with seedlings is always damping off. This is a link to an older video I did on this subject ruclips.net/video/ExYgUNXXm4o/видео.html hopefully it helps.
I find they get mouldy indoors. I am trying them with some things out in my cold frame this year. Because of my climate nearly everything I start early needs to be in my house.

I always pinch out my peppers and tomatoes but never thought to do the same for flowers. Great tip.

Most annuals will branch out and look better from some pinching. I’m glad you found some new information in this video.
Was the removal of the humidity dome permanent at one week or just for the purpose of video clarity and then replaced?
Once your seedlings have emerged (even if only about 80%) the dome should be removed to allow airflow and prevent damping off.
Do they have to start in little pot cells like yours did? Or can I just go ahead and plant all my seeds in a big pot?

Petunias are hardy in zones 9-11 so if you live outside those growing zones it will die at the end of the season.

Yeah, good lighting will make stronger, healthier seedlings. A bright sunny south or west window or a bright shop light to supplement would help.

How long do you keep them under grow lights per day ?
That video was last year’s. I believe they received 14 hours a day from the grow lights.

For pelleted seed do we need to melt it?
Pelleted seed is seed with a clay like substance coating the seed. This makes the seed a larger size thus easier to handle, it also can help keep the seed damp longer if the potting soil dries out. It requires no special treatment, just plant the seeds like usual.

What kind of plant food is best?
A good all purpose fertilizer is fine. In the early stages you may want something with more phosphorus to promote a healthy root system, later you may want more potassium to promote blooming. A basic balanced fertilizer is just fine though. I sometimes find my petunias benefit from a dose of fertilizer for acid loving plants to help maintain the nice green foliage. I don’t recall seeing this as an issue anywhere else so you may not need that. Seedlings should only get low (1/2 strength) doses of fertilizer.
Is it placed under the sun during the day?
Petunias grow in full to part sun. As seedlings I just had them under grow lights as it was too cold to have them outdoors here.

I find they get mouldy indoors. I am trying them with some things out in my cold frame this year. Because of my climate nearly everything I start early needs to be in my house.
