I did HVACR service for forty seven years and I learned this when I was in school. I would have voltage but when you put a load on the circuit the voltage would drop to zero or it would drop like ten to twenty volts. Bad connection was the cause. This can drive a person nuts. My instructor told us remember electricity is like water it will always take the path of least resistance. Great catch Rich.

I’ve got the AESwave advanced terminal test kit, personally feel it’s a must have item for any technician doing diagnostics. Don’t be the guy that stabs your massive test light into the pins lol

I learned that the hard way. about 50 yrs ago. a ford tech set me striaght. bad grd.

Blame this on the ROHS (EU regs), terminals used to be tin / lead combo. Today, it’s flash tin plating. Read up on tin whiskers, you’ll get a better sense of understanding why this happens.

Hi Rich - someone gave me 5 wix 51045 oil filters that fit on my 2006 GMC Yukon with the 5.3. As you know, the filter sits horizontal. These filters don't have the anti drain back valve. Should I use them?

Just because things are plugged in dose not always mean they are plugged in.
Had about the same thing with a old blade fuse where one blade was loose enough not to carry the load.

Do a voltage drop test on the circuit or do a load test using a 12 volt brake bulb.I even use a head light sealed beam.
Note- a noid light dont have enough resistance. Also need the EVTM for component ,connector and pin location.

Buddy we use the Noid light because that was to show you how weak the circuit actually was I think you missed the point there

On the 466 and 570 Nav engines there were fretting issues with the IPR valve connector. The managers turned off the "open circuit" fault code ...because it was showing up too much in the fueld. Our managers would see 12V and believe that the fault code was wrong. If the managers knew what Rich knows (a smart man) then they would have believed the fault code AND then checked for fretting.
Instead, the fault code and any info for the tech was removed. The wrong stuff was "fixed". The trucks were never reliable. The assembly line was shut down ...and we all lost our jobs.
