I'm surprised you didn't catch that one of his names was Silver, and his old crew mate was Ben. More or less. And another name is Jack. Will we get Blackbeard next? He's a classic Disney character as well.
Force users ultimately hiding among pirates post-66 just makes sense. You don't want interactions with the Empire so you find people who live outside of it. The key would be finding outfits who wouldn't turn you in.
They were both right at the beginning. The show chronologically takes place in the New Republic era but the denizens of At Attan have been isolated since the High/Old Republic era (hence 'Great Works,' the Old Republic credits, etc.)
Yes but I am wondering at what point in the High Republic they lost contact cause the kids said "What war??" not which. So they weren't taught about any wars in school which means this planet likely has been lost for a long time
This is the first star wars live action show in a while that has left me wanting more in a good way when the episode ends, cant remember having that feeling out of any of the live action shows since the first season of mando.
When they mentioned "Old Republic", I just figured they were talking about the republic before the New Republic... I didn't think they meant The OLD Republic :O. That's pretty friggin' cool!
Well, anything from the Republic era is considered the "old republic" at this point in the timeline. When Obi Wan refers to the old republic in A New Hope he is referring to the prequels and all the time before them. Although it does seem like At Attin could be from that specific time period, the phrase "old republic" in this context isn't meant to be specific.
Michael, it's so nice to see you again! I always appreciate your knowledge of the Star wars universe. I didn't think I was going to like this show but it is a lot of fun. Cheers!
I thought they did actually call him Silver. I guess they're going with all the pirate themed names by also calling him Jack, and Crimson is a bit like Redbeard.
I would kinda like a drama ending where the kids realize they can’t go back home because their planet won’t be hidden anymore and they stay away. They are able to get a message to their parents to tell them that they are safe.
Jod Na Narwood/Silvo/Crimson Jack might be just like Maz Kanata from the sequel trilogy. A very strong force wielder who never trained or aligned with either the Jedi or Sith. Honestly I’m still surprised we haven’t seen more independent force wielders in Star Wars.
I love Fern saying and asking all the things I was thinking too. Finally we have a Star Wars show that's smart. Also John asking to explain the Star Wars eras "real quick" was a mistake, he got the whole Star Wars encyclopedia 😂 Love ya tho Michael
FYI, the series' creators have confirmed that when they say, "Old Republic" in this series that they mean the Republic era between the High Republic and Emperor Palpatine's Empire, so the time of Anakin and the Clone Wars. They don't mean the Old Republic era of Revan and Darth Malgus.
Alfred Molina has joined the Star Wars universe. Also does Jod Na Nawood have a history with Han Solo. Were they really friends? The barrier protecting At Attin is probably from pirates and any outside threat which is why to the Pirates and anyone else At Attin is a myth. I even loved the Wide shot Bad Batch walking moment and Neel just stealing scenes so perfectly and the funniest is when his stomach growls since he was hungry lol. The kids don't know about the events of the Prequel trilogies or Original Trilogies. They don’t know about O66, the Empire, the Galactic Civil War, the NEW Republic, etc.
I listened to your star wars discussion and it was great. I don't know much about broader Star Wars lore outside of the movies and shows so it's nice to have someone explain some things in detail and lay out important info!
Really appreciate the timeline recap from Michael. I think it's important to refresh people once in a while since they have jumped around a bit more now with all the timelines. Also, getting big Long John Silver vibes from Jude Law. I'm sure others mentioned it too below, I just haven't read the comments yet lol. Ultimately while it might be predictable, I do want him to betray the kids, but then have a change of heart and go back and save them at some point.
Another way to think of the older eras are: The Dawn of the Jedi is tens of thousands of years ago, The Old Republic is thousands of years ago, and the High Republic is hundreds of years ago. The rest are fairly contemporary.
@@theawesomeman9821 Let them miss out! A lot of the haters are weird people and some of them shouldn't be in the star wars community. Meanwhile we will enjoy the shows for what they are worth.
I listened to your Star Wars babble, it is really fun to hear someone that truly loves something get to talk about it without becoming absurd. This show also has a great balance of CGI and practical, no?
I have to admit, the show is definitely capturing the energy of what audience it’s meant to be going for. It’s just silly enough and kid friendly to where it’s not too over the top like Leia running around free in Obi-Wan without being captured type silly. The energy of the kids is great and I hope that continues. Jude Law is certainly making himself look a lot more untrustworthy in his performance, but he’s doing a good job.
This episode gave me awesome late 90s Saturday morning movie watching vibes. The Eerie Indiana music when they got to the moon had a lot to do with it.
I was thinking perhaps one of the other lost planets (that were later destroyed) may be where Jude Law is from, why he may never have been recruited as a Jedi, and why he is “just like them”, but a pirate now.
I don't know, the people of At-Attin seem to believe that the pre-clone wars republic is still in power and don't know about the clone wars/empire/rebellion, I think the supervisor will be a robot that was tasked to manage "the great work" and keep the planet hidden. I personally hope it doesn't have anything to do with the shadow council.
"Would love to see a pirate who was a jedi and finds their way back to the force for redemption." Check out Cade Skywalker, Luke's descendant from the 2006 Legacy comics that takes place in like 140-150 ABY
My guess is Jack is either a padawan or was a youngling at the temple when order 66 was issued given his attitude towards droids. He probably got picked up or joined a pirate crew and has hidden his force abilities this whole time
If this takes place around the time of Mandalorian, I think Luke was almost 30 years old at this time. Jude Law is 51, and they aren't trying to hide his age in this show, so I would guesstimate Crimson Jack is the same age. That means Silvo/Jack/whatever his other weird name was, was around 21-23 at the time of the fall of the republic - a bit old to be a Padawan during that time, methinks. But maybe he's like, a failed Jedi who studied a bit and then left, or was abandoned by his Master in his earlier years as a Padawan or Youngling (hence he almost saying "that's not...! (true?)" when he was told Jedi don't leave anyone behind.)
Michael, do you think maybe Smee is one of the Wardroids from that one Han Solo novel? Xim's WarDroids from "Han Solo and the Lost Legacy"? He's definitely old tech. And in the docks, appeared to be designed for combat. We know Filoni and Favreau both like to "re-canonize" "Legacy" lore.
Thinking of the timeline, from Order 66 to the death of Palpatin it was about 25 years, the Mando Universe plays a couple years later, so it would have been 30-35 years since Order 66. If Jude Law`s character was an early teenager youngling at Order 66 he would now be possibly in his mid 40s. That could be an interesting arc. A youngling sepperated from his master through Order 66, about the same age the kids are now, having to go into hiding and having to hide and find his own way through the galaxy, doing what he must, in order to survive.
I definitely feel like "The Supervisor" is gonna be some Wizard of Oz type figure and that Jod is maybe a Jedi youngling or padawan that escaped order 66
Imagine being on of the kids an having to keep all of this secret for almost a year when all you wanted to do was brag to EVERYONE within earshot *“I fired lasers from a turret at a pair of X-wings after talking to a very friendly owl/cat lady who told us about why our home world was a secret treasure planet after escaping from a pirate spaceport with Young Dumbledore and a droid pirate with a peg leg named SM-33 which clearly means Smee.”* I would break maybe day 4.
Straight up, Jude Law sounds a lot like Obi Wan with his pretend Jedi voice. To the point that he either knew him, or found one of those holichromes he sent out. Hoping the latter though.
My theory is that At Attin was a planet that made the material that was used in the Old Republic currency. Could be why it has the reputation of being a “treasure planet” and perhaps now they use the material for something else(?)
There was the teasing in the first episode of the ship actually being a mine. Which would seem to imply a mine would or could be a thing on that planet. But you would think the fact that the currency doesn’t seem to actually be leaving the planet for thousands of years would have caused some mayhem though. I’m not really sure how it would be maintained for this long. I have a feeling the great work is basically nothing other than busy work created to not actually accomplish anything other than keeping an isolated society stabilized.
This series is targeted for younger kids but I swear this series is far better than the Acolyte in every way possible besides combat. Which is a positive story telling matters way more to any story so I'll take it
The proto-republic was before the Jedi schism following the 100 years of darkness.. The time when the Dark Jedi became the Sith.. I can’t see them going back to the first republic when the core words first founded the republic… The kids seemed surprised there were 1000 planets, let alone 10,000 or the over 1 million of the high republic.. They learned about other republic planets but obviously less than 1000.. That gives us a potential era, the early days of hyperspace travel, before the great hyperspace lanes were discovered..
I just realized watching this time that SM-33 says “Can’t *say* I remember no At-Attin” could he be in a Threepio being able to translate Sith, but not *say* it type situation?
This is getting good. The one show that shouldn't be a one and done is probably just that. But with the premise of getting home, it's too simple to continue.
At Attin has been protected since the Old Republic. The way the pirates reacted to the gold its nit just old but extremely old. The kids only think Jod is a Jedi they haven't once mentioned that he could be a Sith. The symbols were proto republic.
It’s been hidden but the droid in ep2 implied there could also have been authorized transit in and out. So we don’t actually know how up to date their knowledge of the outside is. They could have not been entirely cut off until the high republic era.
I'm saying... If you want to hide as a jedi... nobody would expect a jedi to be a pirate... (even though I think he's just a force user) What do people think happens with the rest of the galaxy with people who has the force and the sith or jedi are not interested in training?

Also a great way to hide your abilities from certain force sensitive hunters at the time.

Pretty sure Disney thought the same thing.

This such a fun episode glad that we got some answers on the kids planet
Crazy that the children almost feel hidden away from the rest of the galaxy without anyone knowing their home is real

"Can't say I remember no At-Attin" sounds like a cover script in SM-33's programming that needs to be cracked.
Oh he remembers it. He just can't say that he remembers it.

The old republic name drop honestly made me fall out of my seat
They did it in episode 2 as well
Well, anything from the Republic era is considered the "old republic" at this point in the timeline. If “keep it simple, stupid” was a show. And I mean that in the best way. It’s SO good, man. I am in love with this show so far.
It has been so long since I've watched a show that has me genuinely looking forward to the next episode, but dreading the wait. Especially Star Wars.
My god Alfred molina in the star wars universe
Andor e Skeleton Crew is what a want for Star Wars from here and beyond. The intercalation between a more mature show, and a very well done adventure.
Sam Witwer plays the voice of the little Teek ferryman. Also Alfred Molina plays the Ishi Tib that got his eye shot.
Jude Laws name that everyone called him at the spaceport was "silvo" AKA Silver as in Long John Silver
I thought they did actually call him Silver. I guess they're going with all the pirate themed names by also calling him Jack, and Crimson is a bit like Redbeard.
Well yeah and his name is Jod lol. Jod Silvo…John Silver
These reviews are always better when discussed by knowledgeable fans
Hope we lived up to that!
I read someone say that on a acolyte reaction
I would kinda like a drama ending where the kids realize they can’t go back home because their planet won’t be hidden anymore and they stay away. They are able to get a message to their parents to tell them that they are safe.
This is set in the timeframe of The Mandalorean. After the fall of the Empire, but before the rise of the First Order. Imperial Remnant era.
We actually have seen them recently in The Acolyte since the Witches were force users and were neither Jedi or Sith.
i have a feeling that he was left behind by the Jedi and his not happy about that.
Leia, Finn, Bendu and Chirrut Imwe.
@@michaeljeacock that’s only 3
There is a reason for it. The average casual viewer just gets straight up confused by the concept of force users being separate from Jedi and Sith.
Thanks for the SW timeline chat! It was very helpful.

When Michael said "Space..." I got out my "the final frontier..." just a hair before John did and it made me smile.
