In February 2014, the Rails to Grantown Project (which will see Strathspey Steam Railway run its heritage line between Aviemore and Grantown on Spey) crossed a monumental and historic hurdle. This video shows just how it happened!
Well done is really not enough to express what is a splendid achievement.
It was great getting the bridge rebuilt, but getting back to Grantown has still a long and difficult journey yet, unfortunately.
Please please please finish this line. This will make it one of the most beautiful in the whole of the UK.
My dad did his National Service at the REME depot in Grantown on Spey in 1948/49 and had nothing but good memories of the place. In his stories, he would imitate the train guard, calling out the station names as they approached the stops in the dead of night. He particularly enjoyed wrapping his tongue around "Boat of Garten!" and "Grantown-on-Spey!". A city boy from Newcastle upon Tyne, he fell in love with beautiful Strathspey.
This looks like a nice railway. I wish everyone involved luck in it's operation!
It is great that the railway is coming to Grantown on Spey, the only thing i cannot work out is how the railway line on the Broomhill side which sits much lower than the A95 is going to meet the old trackbed on the other side where the bridge where the old trackbed falls away is much higher up.
Absolute Spitze
well done
