One final time, It's Hero Time! After taking a look at the origins of Ben 10 from it's creation all the way through its first initial series, to the live action movie, a 3D animated film and even a couple of game show, as well as the older series of Ben 10 media like Ben 10: Alien Force, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien and the second live action Ben 10 movie, we finally get to take a look at the more mixed in opinions by the fans of Ben 10 series, Ben 10: Omniverse as well as the reboot, titled Ben 10. So let's jump into my third and final part of my 3 part Ben 10 Retrospective.

Im not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there were actually plans to give Omniverse a season 9 going on that galactic road trip, ending the series the same way it started. It genuinely sounded like a masterpiece of a season, but sadly Omniverse was cancelled and they had to end it on season 8
omg really? i wanted to see the full team with rook in a season together SO badly and had hoped the following series would be that, but we got the reboot instead. now my heart's broken again ;-;
Didn't bother me cuz I honestly wasn't a fan of the show and how he's portray with many changes that kinda ruins the build up from Ultimate and Force.

@@spideyguy3315 it had it’s ups and downs but I’ve learned to appreciate it over time, I think the higher concept and universal writing was a logical next step for the series honestly.

Fun fact: Toepick and Atomix were referenced in the OG series during the "Ken 10" episode, as one of Ben 10.000's aliens. And Ken was disappointed that Atomix wasn't available in his Omnitrix, and said that Toepick "even grossed him out".
Good on ben not giving his son the equivalent of a nuclear reactor
Atomix is one of my more favorite aliens.. maybe it's just the way John Dimaggio voices him

i think the blue energy rock alien that appeared in the reboot also appeared on omniverse, in the episode Rook gets infected with the bro liquid thing, its one of the fighters during the tournament
Either the writers of omniverse based it around ken's description or they actually had that planned since the classic

I really appreciate the addition of weaker/"useless" aliens to bens roster in this series, Asmuth made the Omnitrix as a way for all life to understand each other, and surely not *every* alien in the universe is a super cool action guy, some are simply "the worst," and I really appreciate a more realistic and rounded out arsenal of not just powerful aliens but aliens that are just regular dudes.

Yeah so do I. Really emphasizes this thing about Ben using a storing device as a weapon. Of course I'd rather want to see Four Arms or Big Chill than Walkatrout or Molestache but it makes all the sense that among 10.000 aliens you have many who are even weaker than a human.
@@that1st_lad Ben always used combat-set aliens. I think in one episode it's mentioned that by default the omnitrix give a set of 10 that is best suited for any-scenario survival. I'm sure that in the database for every fourarms there are 10 "chicken but with two heads". It's just that they wouldn't be useful in what Ben uses the omnitrix for
True, but when the weilder of said device that wad made for unity amongst all species literally decides to call one of them "The Worst", that premise kinda loses its sentimentality.
Seeing Omiverse as an adult really hits different than watching it as a kid.
Although the art style and design changes we're a lot to swallow. Not same extent as knuckles taking roids and skipping leg day, but significantly! Like american dragon J.L.

I still like Omniverse, both as a kid(I was 10-11 years old at that time) and now, I’m 21 and I feel that Omniverse is better than the 2017 reboot, sure omniverse has flaws, but i do like the artwork, and Yuri’s voice acting during that time was peak
Still pretty mix on it, cuz the characterization of Ben and his recons are kind of a mess.
The writer made the reboot for young kids, and I was devastated when I found out wildmutt doesn’t exist any more. And wild vine has two legs instead of his four plant like appendages, and they put spikes on literally almost every character.
It's also weird how they're all humanoid. There's practically no variety anymore. Ben used to have aliens with different body types that actually made them look alien. In the reboot, they took one look at stinkfly and said "You know what would be good? Making him a bipedal knock off version of big chill"
The humanoid thing actually plays into why Wildmutt wasn’t included. Man of Action has said that the CN higher ups basically said to make the aliens all bipedal and more humanoid, and said that they would allow Wildmutt if he was made bipedal like how they did Stinkfly. Given that Wildmutt’s entire concept hinges on him literally being a quadrupedal dog alien, MoA scrapped the use of Wildmutt for the series, though a Vulpimancer prisoner did show up in the Null Void along with an Ectonurite, Opticoid, Pisciss Volann, and a Loboan (ie Ghostfreak, Eye Guy, Ripjaws, and Blitzwolfer) in Ben 10 vs The Universe, so we did at least get that.

Honestly, it kind of gave Ben’s transformations this Magical girl vibe where the transformations were more like costumes than aliens.
@@belimvasim143 The reboot had a Tennyson family that was fun and interesting and villains with memorable personalities. The OG series sucked because it lacked those.
Omniverse was the kind of sequel series that makes you think "wtf is this" when you watch the show at the first time and ends up enjoying it the more you watch it as the story follows
It also fixed a lot of mistakes from UAF. I hated the retcons of UAF, and also How the characters became such jerks

I like how Omniverse had big bads that were evil versions of Ben's aliens that showed up BEFORE. Really reminds you what Ben COULD have become if he wasn't raised to do the right thing.
Sad that Omniverse was also meant to have a Season 9 which would the galactic road trip and Season 10 would’ve been the Negative 10 (just like the Classic series). I’m glad that Omniverse is getting more love nowadays as it’s honestly one of the most under appreciated sequels of all time
Its like every show Derek Worked on always gets cancelled and ends on a cliffhanger, like TFA or Mystery Incorporated

People just got thrown off by the animation changes. It was maybe the 2nd best of the ben 10 series imo.
And with season 10 it would have been probably the first series to have 100 episodes out the four original shows
Ben 10 was such a love letter to sci-fi as a genre. From aliens to time travel to crazy tech, it was such a treat to watch it in every incantation. Amazing retrospective, you should be so proud!!!

Hearing what Omniverse is about as an adult...this sounds like a well crafted, sci-fi masterpiece. Actually kind of upset younger me couldn't get past the art style! (Also made it to 1:29:20, brilliant retrospective that I had fun watching basically week to week!)

I also fell off around Omniverse, but rather than thinking it was a reboot, I somehow thought it was an inbetweenquel. Ben looks older than in the OG series, but younger than alien force. Also Gwen's character design looks like an evolution from the OG series, rather than her ultimate alien design.

Yeah, while watching this video essay series I interpreted it as the form of Ben which is technically still older than in the OG series, but he has had experiences that really reality-checked him into realizing he still needs to mature more, so he's displayed in a more youthful-looking style. But this might also not have been done on purpose by the artists, directors, etc.
These 3 videos have been an amazing trip down memory lane. It was great seeing you revisit my favorite childhood franchise. I hope you'll make more of these when the new installment gets released, whatever that may be

Never thought I'd find myself getting emotional over the course of a Ben 10 retrospective but man, seeing it all come together with the highlight real at 45:10. Man that got me, great video series Jordan.
I actually liked Omniverse quite a bit and always thought that the way it ended was such a solid setup for another season/series that was disused when the rebooted the franchise. Wonder what a hypothetical next season/series from Man Of Action could have looked like if they weren't told to reboot by Cartoon Network.
I would like to see a Ben 10k series.
Yeah it would have been pretty neat to tie everything up with a road trip series since that's what the first was. Especially since they would have been exploring space and developing the lore more
Omniverse is the best forever
Omniverse season 9 wasn't disgarded because of the reboot decision. It was most likely because omniverse was losing its funding due to the decline of toy sales, and then gave up and burned of the final three seasons at 6am time slots with no advertising. Purposely giving the show bad ratings.(they didn't even post them on their website at that time either). That's most likely why they made a reboot for the series. If it wasn't for cartoon network basiclally sweeping Ben 10 underneath the carpet all that time, We may have actually had that 9th season.
This video really gave me more love for Omniverse. I was one of the fans who weren't too keen on Omniverse's art style but over the years I've come to enjoy and appreciate it's existence in the original continuity. I personally would love an HBO MAX series doing an episodic space roadtrip continuation of Omniverse that Ben teased at the end. It was also rumored to happen before Omniverse was wrapped up. Great video as usual Jordan. You took me on a nostalgic blast from the past and have me looking towards the future of Ben 10.
Well I'm still one of those fans who felt like the show was a miss direct to Bens entire arc that shows his growth and perspective of what he's become. In which is entirely erased and disconnects some of the characters that he had an attachment too, especially with his girlfriend.

Also Ben and Julie's relationship was crumbling in Ultimate Alien. The break up was expected.

I’ve been rewatching Omniverse for a week or so. I must say despite the reckons, this is the peak of the OG Ben 10 saga. Really wished I saw this while it was still on the air
I'm super Happy that the Omniverse series is getting the appreciation it deserves. For me, it's the best way the show could end.
A retrospective of teen titans and teen titans go would be pretty interesting, the tonal differences and the surprising sucess-ish of go. Briefly refering to other teen titans animated versions (it gives another angle to look at how these characters are used).
Yeah. The 2003 Teen Titans is pretty good for its time, but the online hatred towards TTG was wild back in the 2010s. Nowadays, with all the memes that spread around, I think TTG finally find got the recognition to where it belongs, whether you like it or not.

Bro really made me rewatch all of Ben10 (couldnt bring myself to watch the reboot, but still). Its crazy how a great ending can really change the perception of an entire series. I wonder what other shows are like that?

@@johnstrife7it's AF and UA, Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, unless you were trying to combine the two into UAF, Ultimate Alien Force, in order to demonstrate their closer connection compared to the rest of the OG series.
Have to admit, I'm one of those who dropped off the series after Ultimate Alien, seeing your work here was really impressive (and worth watching all the way through all the parts for sure). Thanks for the memories and the hard work!

So Omniverse was a very fitting name for that series cuz they really dived into that concept pretty hard
I love how they didn’t definitively choose a prime Ben or timeline like most multiverses end up having. It really makes the art style changes and voice actor changes all feel more natural and make sense. And they perfectly filled in the holes of the lore throughout the series, having this perfect balance of continuity and change.
I remebered watching Ben 10 up until the middle of Ultimate Alien. After watching this series, I now wanna re-watch the old series and watch it up until the end of Omniverse. Nice job Jordan!
I’ll give the reboot this. Kevin’s personality will make him joining the team in a sequel a lot less divisive.
Honestly I think it’d be cool for a sequel to the reboot to start taking more elements from other series. Maybe have Feedback be one of the starting aliens and have Ben initially dismiss him as mid before learning of the absorption powers.

Seeing omniverse as a adult really makes me appreciate this finale of the Ben 10 series as a whole at least in my opinion.
Omniverse is one of my favorite series within the Ben 10 franchise. I was admittedly taken back at first when seeing the art style, but after I quickly realized who the artist was behind it, I was more than ready for it. Rook as a new character was a great foil or counterbalance to Ben. Ben is all experience, no training, while Rook is all training and no experience. I love Dynamics like this.
The new aliens we got introduced to are some of my favorite among the lineup. Ball Weevil, Gravattack, and even Bloxx became three of my absolute favorites.
I made a smaller comment about this during your community post, but there are a few things that this series unfortunately does that ruins other aspects of the other series. The Rooters Arc is the worst one, ruining Kevin and the other Alien Children's backstories.

They should try going the Kamen Rider route. After 52 episodes, you reboot with a new gimmick every year. A great chance to showcase new aliens and bring back classic ones each time!

The reboot art style is that lazy personality deprived style that adult comedies like brickleberry had. Which is kind of weird because the aliens themselves mostly don't really look like they even visually go with this iteration
I absolutely love your take on all of the series as a whole! It felt so good going over all these amazing stories again, while also exploring parts that I didn't care much about until now.

I made it to this point after watching the other two parts. It was a wonderfully put together retrospective of the series and I like how you went into the series that you didn't watch growing up as a kid with an open mind giving them a fair shake. It really is amazing how well the entire OG series holds up and while not giving much thought about the reboot I think I may check it out for myself. Keep up the great work, can't wait to see what else you decide to cover.

So many of the redesigns are so cool and also we have to talk about the prof paradox glow up in omniverse lmao my man went from stock background scientist to steam punk time overseer
@@potatofarmergyro1720 and the design is so detailed too. Must have been pretty hard to animate. Props to them. Not to mention UAF would always recycle things whenever they they could in pretty lazy ways. Well, that was uncalled for, I like UAF too, but overall the visuals could have been better. A lot of designs in OV are improvements over the UAF ones. Try saying that on Instagram, especially Indian posts. Heck, set your phone on vibration to achieve pure bass.
Overall I don't understand the people that still hate OV to this day despite not watching it just because of the style change. And heck, it's a cartoon. It should look like one, you know.

Omniverse is the GOAT, used to hate it when I was a kid, but rewatched it and really loved all of it, soundtrack, humor, action and I am a fan of most of the redesigns.

I'm one of those "purists" that was pretty much turned away by Omniverse much more when the reboot came out -- your video has certainly convinced me to give them a shot. Great stuff. I do miss Ben 10's multiverse.

All of the tmnt series have something different to offer from 1987 to rise it's a fun ride for sure
Even the arguably bad versions of tmnt are still worth a watch. They're all entertaining on the first watch.
I was able to catch up to Omniverse right up until before the final Arc because I had lost cable TV for a while, though I still enjoyed what I got to see as I was totally fine with the artstyle change, Rook's presence and tonal shifts (though I honestly wanted Gwen to keep her Episode 1 design). If anything, it was a great middle ground between the classic and sequel series that came before as well as a general celebration of everything Ben 10 in general. Will definitely catch up with the remainder of Omniverse at some point. Though by the time the reboot came out I was already growing out of CN and all the bad things I kept hearing about it made me skip it alltogether. Regardless, this was a great retrospective and it reawakened a lot of memories I had watching each of the first 4 series when they were first released. Keep it up.
i don't understand why Gwen's redesign was greenlit, it doesn't do anything for her

@@erikpng but Ben is wearing a different jacket/shirt, signifying his growth and Gwen has never worn glasses (maybe for some scenes, but never permanently)

I have successfully reached the end of this awesome trio of videos. It's given me a greater appreciation for Ben 10 as a whole and honestly I might go back and actually watch Omniverse now!
Watch whole omniverse, it's a great series. Don't try to give up because of change in artstyle, that artstyle will grow on u till the end of omniverse and lighthearted tone (It had lighthearted tone but more serious and dark moments than ultimate alien )Have a great day!
I've watched all three videos completely. This is a nice retrospective series. I watched all the Ben 10 incarcerations. My favorite is Omniverse. I liked the writing and the animation. Everything else up to this point was nice and okay. Omniverse was just goofy enough and serious enough that they complemented each other.
I tried watching the 2017 reboot. I couldn't get into it. I acknowledge that is designed more for kids, which is fine, but it just didn't jell. Now, if there was another continuation, personally I'd like to see something between Omniverse and the Reboot. I don't care about the animation, if the story is good, I'd get down with it
I'd say the same, except I'd draw the line at the reboot's visual design. I find it too distracting. I don't mind Omniverse's art style anymore after seeing this 3-part series though.

I’m pretty sure I watched Omniverse as a kid, the one thing I remembered was Rook, or at least that he was a thing, I didn’t remember his name or anything but once I saw his design I went “OHHHHH”, also the bit where Vilgax and the evil time traveler Ben make a team of evil Bens across the multiverse, reminds me of in DC comics where The Batman who laughs goes through different dark multiverses to collect an army of evil super-powered versions of Batman, so cool
I always thought this was a midquel that would go between the original Ben 10 and Ben 10 Alien force, showing Ben after his childhood being in his pre-teenage years. I never thought this was actually a sequel to all the other series.
Lol you're literally the reason I gave Omniverse a chance come to find out you were watching it for the first time too. I saw the premiere and thought it looked lame but it probably marries the elements of Ben 10 the best imo. I appreciate your videos man. Ben 10 was one of my favorite shows and I kinda left it behind when Omniverse came out caus it seemed "too kiddie." Glad I go to re-live a new Ben 10 as an adult. Thanks for reminding me!

as someone who really enjoyed the first Ben 10 series when I started watching in the middle of the show and then was into Alien Force's first two seasons but dropped off during the third (and then a similar thing happened with Ultimate Alien, where I got into it halfway through season 1 and really enjoyed the rest of that season, but dropped off in season 2), Omniverse is the one I pretty much watched all the way through (started only a few episodes in, and continued to the end) and as such is the one I have the most nostalgia for, watching it during my last two years of high school and my first semester of college.
I recently finished a rewatch in honor of the show's 10th anniversary, and I still really enjoy it, especially the Malware arc (as he's my favorite villain and is voiced by Corey Burton, my all time favorite voice actor) and everything to do with the multiverse and time travel.

Omniverse seemed to have gotten the same treatment as Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; overlooked and avoided because of aesthetic changes and character choices but, despite some rocky parts, breathing some good stuff into both franchises.

Gave Omniverse a chance and, outside of bad romance, it was pretty good.
Finally got around to Rise last year due to a review by one from the wife of one of my favourite youtubers and I was hooked. This might have been the first series where I was interested with Leo, Splinter, Donnie and April. Especially April and Donnie. They’re great.
I do hope it gets a third season. Mostly to see if Triceratrons are added or if we get more Warren Stone.

I made it through all of the Ben 10 videos from start to finish and i have to say i really enjoyed myself! It was a nice trip backdown memory lane, i remember watching the original Ben 10 show back in the day when i was about 10 (maybe a bit younger) and enjoying all of the action and stories it had to offer back then and such, i also remember having a HUGE crush on Gwen back then, it was and forever will be a great part of my childhood. All of the videos were very well edited and they were worded in such a way that not only do i agree with every point made in the video it just resonates with me if that makes sense?
I'm a huge fan of Ben 10 and will always be cos the concept of turning into aliens through an alien device is cool.
Thank you Mr Fringe for making these sorts of videos and many more i really enjoy your content and i hope to see more long form content like this in addition to your other videos! Made it through the whole 3 part series. I loved Ben 10 as a kid and as I approach my 30s seeing this really hit me with the most nostalgia I've had in a long time. Makes me want to watch the whole thing because I didn't finish omniverse and maybe missed a big chunk of ultimate alien, I don't remember. Anyway this was awesome thanks for reminding me how much I love Ben 10 looking forward to your next mega project (provided the work for this one didn't make you never want to do it again)
Yea I really appreciate you making this Ben 10 series. When Omniverse came out I looked at it the same way I did Teen Titans Go. I saw the art style and immediately thought it was an entirely different show that didn’t remain faithful to the overall story. In hindsight I wish I would’ve watched it because the art style is actually really nice and from what I’m hearing, the story was pretty good as well..
sidenote: omg I love the Secret Saturdays man so underrated needed more than 2 seasons. The kid me would’ve died seeing their crossover 😭

Hey, Jordan, I just wanna tell you how much I've enjoyed your long form 'Ben 10' retrospective. I watched all three parts today.
I still remember watching the premiere of the very first episode of the original series and immediately falling in love with the art style. The spirit of Jack Kirby is alive and well in every aspect of the classic show.
'Alien Force' was a big adjustment for me, I felt like 15 year-old Ben was too bland, like he'd matured out of being himself. The quality of the writing kept me on board, however, and I adore how strong the resolution of the Highbreed arc was.
The return of Ben's ego and over-inflated confidence in the following season was welcome to me and I felt the show was never stronger than the Ultimate Aggregor arc of 'Ultimate Alien.'
The shift in art direction in 'Omniverse' was such a breath of fresh air! I didn't prefer all the redesigns (as a diehard Big Chill fan I could never adjust to that swole-A-F redesign), but I was overjoyed at how considered every element was.
I wish I had seen more of the show in its original run, but the episodes were airing wildly out of order and eventually I had to stop because the carefully plotted story was just impossible to follow when airing as a jumble of episodes from different arcs.
To date I have never seen the final couple of arcs, but I am relieved to learn that the show was given a proper, satisfying send-off.
I think you and I are of a similar mind when it comes to the reboot series. Every now and then I saw flashes of utter brilliance, but most of the time it swung between stale retread of what came before and dull attempts to turn an action adventure show into a dumb comedy with no consequences or overarching story.
Once again, congratulations on putting out such a great, in-depth look at the incredible world - no, universe - no, *omniverse* - that is 'Ben 10.'
I can't wait to see how 'Ben 10' returns to build onto the series' strong legacy.

Nah omniverse was my favorite version of Ben 10 but looking back I realized it's
1. Ben 10 classic
2. Omniverse
3.Alien force
4. Ultimate alien
Omiverse is my favorite of the seasons. We're at the point of the show where it's gone on so long that it allows the show to go full blown crazy, and I really enjoy that.
And Walkatrout and Toepick are probably my two favorite aliens.
Watched all 3 because I missed watching this type of cartoons Im only 19 and it's kinda scary but these type of retrospective videos keep me stable
i love how first and last transformation of Omniverse is Feedback, something poetic about it

Honestly, Omniverse was nutty. It's basically Ben 10 with elements of TF: Animated, probably because DJW was involved.
The reboot isn't very good from what I've seen, but David Kaye plays Grandpa Max so that's one good thing.
Its good but like a 6/10 good
The reboot is very good imo, just quite hard to get thru in the 1st season if you're all about lore, the first season is just kind of an introduction to the characters and how they've changed

Thank you for doing this retrospective as someone who fondly remembers OS to UAF and had internet friends to binge OV with and decide to like the reboot once season 3 hit. and thank you for not outright shitting on or being passive aggressive with the reboot, I see the flaws in it too and it's pros as well. I love Yuri as vilgax such a highlight. I don't see a lot of fans being open about the reboot, even when the "Benwunners" get in the way. I hope that (and I mean in the far future once all the Warner shit stops) we get an pre teen or teenage reboot to improve the reboot and fix the flaws in it too. and Thank you to DJW for bringing OV to light and bringing my favorite character into creation as you can tell with my YT name lol.
Omniverse had some really bad filler in my opinion, and Ben’s personality spiked up and down in terms of snob, but it will always be special because of how it closed the book on Ben Prime. The reboot was a great ride too, especially when it comes to all of the over 10 minute specials and movie.
UAF will still haunt me though. AF season 3 was a mistake

Maybe I'll watch it one day, but not anytime soon.
Even though I dropped the series off at Ultimate Alien (mainly because my parents didn't want cable TV anymore) I'm so glad that the legacy of what I enjoyed as a kid at around 10 years old is till honored to this day despite me not liking the majority of the writing and art style. This retrospective was truly wonderful and thank you for making it!

This entire retrospective was incredible. As someone who grew up watchin Ben 10 I wasn't fond of Omniverse like most but this made me appreciate it more than I thought I would & made me realize I watched FAR more of It than I initially remembered lol. The reboot at least doesn't seem AS bad as I initially thought it would with my TTG Vietnam flashbacks still semi-fresh at the time but I still ain't genuinely touchin it wit a 10 foot pole. It's 1 of my fav cartoon franchises & would love to see more \
Binging this entire three part series was a ton of fun. I was only an "in passing" fan of Ben 10 back in the day. But now, having young kids, my 5 year old son loves the reboot and even plays the newest game. Learning all of this about the lore and all of the series has been such a good time and I really appreciate your dedication to this project. Keep up the good work!
Finally finished watching the last of this 3 part series, and you made me fall in love with this show again. I was 10 when this show came out and I grew up with it. My friends and I never had all the toys individually, but together we were able to bring what we had and use our imaginations to further the story of Ben10. You helped me remember those friendships and the memories of hours upon hours of play and debate.

Omniverse is kinda my favorite. I wasn't put off by the animation change I kinda like the art style and when I finished episode 1 I couldn't help but love the the difference.

Omniverse is my least favorite, it just so many changes that destroys the growth of the characters journey from the first series to Ultimate.
@@Tob10k The Plots are more of a hit or miss. But the animation is not bad. And the world building is kinda messy and out of place sometimes.
I love this series, I watched every video all the way through! Thanks for taking so much time in this Ben 10 deep dive, I only watched the original series as a kid and had no idea it went on for so long. Really interesting to hear all of the plot twists and turns!
