As always, your video is most informative. I am approaching the 42nd anniversary of my ileostomy. For the entire duration I have used a two-piece drainable system. The biggest need for burping for me occurs in the morning after a night's sleep. Often my bag has ballooned to the point of bursting. As I am already laying down, burping is quite easy by simply holding the the bag vertically, making sure that, as you describe, the fecal material is at the base and I just open the clip. Again, as you describe the odor can be rather overpowering. So, I keep a can of Glade aerosol air freshener next to my bed and just spray away.
I also wear Hollister New Image two-piece, Eric, and I burp my pouches from the top the same way your showed us on the video. Your advice to never attempt to burp a pretty full pouch was spot on!!!. One night while I was in bed sleeping, I woke up and felt my pouch. It felt warm and like it was full of gas. Well, guess what? It wasn't gas and I had an awful mess to clean up. Quite needless to say, that was the last time I attempted to burp my pouch in bed!!!! Lesson learned. Thanks for this video. It will help a lot of folks!!!!!
The safer way to be to release gas through the outlet, preferably over a toilet. Separating the bag from the wafer, even just a crack, can be risky ( even though many of us still do it ).
Mine has been constantly ballooning for a few weeks now. Burping from the op or at the bottom has resulted in having to put on a whole new wafer and bag. I didn’t have this problem until recently. No sooner I burp the ballon it fills right back up. Also (and of course) when it leaks. This run for these have
"I didn’t have this problem until recently. " Can you think of anything that might have changed in your life? Different food or diet change? New medication or supplements? Stress? Chewing gum/smoking/drinking from a straw, etc.? Sometimes I get a day or two where my gas is far greater than other days, but there's usually a cause (often a new food, or food I know creates more gas). Good luck!
Good luck! Gas can be tricky to mitigate, especially without changing your diet, but if you are able to find a solution that works, then you may not have to give up any of your favorite foods!
I prefer to burp the one that u have on with the clip. I had tried to put that 2 piece today and I was like how am I supposed to burp it and I ended up taking it off and switching back to the other one. If I would have known I wouldn't have wasted that ostomy bag 🤦♂️
YES! For sure! After watching one of your videos where you show the little vent that can be attached to the pouch, I bought 10! Installation went well, no problems there! During the night, as soon as I can think, I feel the pouch, instintictivly. Popped the vent, hoping to release air, doing so in the dark, horizontally! Big mistake! I had to take a shower and change clothes, quickly. Maybe shortcuts could possibly work when not home, in a pinch. However, I find that a thorough emptying, cleaning and wash of hands, is the best thing for me.
I thought this was another fake background, then I noticed something that looks like a spotlight reflected on the wall behind you. Now I'm not sure. :-)
I'm going to try and edit myself out of a few good quality photos I have... I could make them usable! But I really regret not taking photos of that place - it had really nice background opportunities!
I just take the colostomy bag, off of my patients, like you're taking it off to change it, I just take it right off the sternum, to let the air out, and put it right back on as fast as possible, and run
I've tried just removing the bag, but find that the flange will get soiled and it becomes hard to clean inside of the ring. But it also depends on the output - if it's dry, like with a colostomy, then that might work just fine👍
@@mke6653 I'm not sure of the model number because the numbers rubbed off and I only had 1 sample. It's a Hollister 2 piece with a filter and clip bottom, non-transparent. If you know the number, please let me know. I'm using other samples but that one is my preference.

haha! Yes, I personally just go to the bathroom and take care of things there - chances are, if I have to burp my bag, I have to empty it too.
