I'm 72 and just split up some oak rounds like you are working on in this video. Only, I only have an old fashioned tow behind splitter which will swing into vertical mode for those humongous rounds. Wrestling those monsters into position on the ground gets harder each year. I feed an outdoor furnace that can take wood up to 25", so I leave them as large as I can get through the door to the firebox. Smaller/ uglier pieces are used for daytime heating when I can check on the fire a couple of times during the day. I fill up with overnighters for the night, and on extremely cold nights, I fill it to the max and throw some small chunks in to fill the voids. That round, which I assume to be 16" tall will weigh about 375 lbs. My 22" in rounds for my furnace can weigh up to 450 or more. Sometimes, if I have help, it takes 2 men to get them into position under the wedge. Here in SW Missouri, 3 species of oak is our primary firewood. Those ugly rounds are a bear and will test your patience, and they call for an extra measure of caution.
Strikehold Hi, I have many splitters and the axis is my favourite, I would like to see the new wolf ridge vertical splitter in person though. Great video. Thanks
Sorry just catching up on videos . Safety is a big one with vertical splitters . We have the same adjustment on buster but I keep it at about 17 inches . Them big rounds can be a real pain if ya not paying attention an things happen fast with a vertical splitter . Love the thumbs up comment Heath 😂. As my buddy says stupid hurts an trust me he ain’t wrong . Great video busten them big oak rounds up .
Thanks Phil, I agree stupid does hurt but I also know people who work hard and get after it have a lot more chances for something to happen. It’s easier to not get hurt sitting on a couch but that’s not the life for us! I figure the only useless mistake is one nobody learns from.
ya, my splitter has a wedge separator. When i used it in Vertical position for Big logs, It creeped me out, what if my forearm was in there. Just work steady, and mentally alert. No probs.
That looked like a serious workout manipulating that big oak round into place. Good job getting it broken up and explaining the splitter stroke length adjustment.
Hello Heath, you told me to let you know when I was getting a splitter and I wanted to come up and go to the Paul Bunyan show and pick up my Allwood on the way home but Bobby just couldn’t get what I ordered done so I called wolf ridge and he told me I would have it before Christmas he got it done earlier than I expected and picking it up December 12 pro 28C with several upgrades a little like your friends can’t remember his name I think Rachel said he’s big dumb and happy in a video. Lol. From some other commentor.😂. I’m almost completely out of firewood that is split so I had to do something fast. I’ve got a mountain of wood just waiting. To get split when I make it back home Tuesday you guys keep warm up there. I hope you get that wood boiler working soon and I’d like to hear that Makita running since you had it ported and got the piston put in the right way. I bet it’s gonna sound better. Then it used to.
Thanks Jeff, the Makita is a beast now. Glad you were able to get back to splitting. That’s one good thing for us consumers that there are several options for hi quality splitters available. The 28C can definitely put some wood out too.
Strikehold sounds like good product. 345 lbs. guess on oak, very heavy. One Eye Customs has made protector for kick outs. Goes between you and the table.
I fabricated the "Stickler" wood splitting auger to my pto driven earth auger to split the big rounds into liftable sizes, works great with no back breaking sweat.
Great idea on the totes, nice safety feature. Agree Everyone does what fits there woodyard, and it makes it more enjoyable, Good video and teamwork 🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
I was splitting beech on the axis today. Be careful with having the camera in line with the log lift- the other week a beech log shot out that way and tipped over a light I was using. I tried using 1/3 to 1/2 the wedge today and it does help on the hard logs. I’m a little concerned with how much the vertical beam flexes when it doesn’t split. The strike hold looks like a good product. I guess 163 pounds for the oak round. Nice video showing large rounds!
I know your doings video demonstration,I havre an outside boiler also and stuff like that goose in 4or 5 pieces then left for a year or so before going into the boiler.
I never thought about the safety issue with the vertical splitters. That is a very important safety factor to point out. I have accidentally stepped on the foot pedal on my electric bundler. I am sure your video will help save some people.
Thanks, I hadn’t thought about that either until Phil had his accident. This is one of the reasons we share our mistakes because if we can help someone else from not making the same one it’s worth not pretending to be perfect.
Heath , when I have a giant knotty round like what you are dealing with in this video , I will grab a saw and make a single quartering cut from the edge of the round to the center . This removes a lot of strength that the round has . It gives a good starting point to start splitting and saves time and effort .. If that makes sense .
No wonder you’re cold Rachel, you’ve worn holes in your jeans lol! Strikehold, Really hard to tell looking through the screen, and the weather can make it vary but 218 lbs is my guesstimate. 🤙
Hey Heath and Rachel , nice job of getting those Hugh rounds split up . Thanks for sharing that safety feature on the AXIS also . Y’all have a good one !!👍🏻🇺🇸🪵🔥
good video and job i do a lot of that mean wood i use a chain saw and wedges to get them down to splitter side. i would litte to have a Axis but they are not in my price range. both of you take care, be safe and well.
Another good video , I think the round weighs 234 pounds , I would love to have a bottle of the strike hold. Heath I met you and Rachel at Paul Bunyan you give me a shirt Andrew give me a hat and I ended up over at Chris’s booth running the Wolfridge. Hope to have one by Christmas. Stay safe and as always great videos.
Your large round I estimate 231 lbs. Love your Easton Verticle splitter. I use candle wax on the splitter head on the nasty, hard to split rounds..it makes it a little easier on my splitter.
Your tote modification is fantastic. If stacking works for you, just attach your mod up side down. Instead of having the relocated bar above the height of the tote, mount it below the rim of the tote. Just thinking out loud.🤔
Thanks William, I was going to try this but I think John over at FrickNJeep just came up with a better idea! I’ll be trying it out in an upcoming video.
CLP is what the US Army uses for pretty much all weapons(crew served machine guns and individual weapons)lube. Cleans, Lubricates, Protects. It serves as advertised in the right application.
Great video. I am sold on the vertical splitter for tree services wood. I like the idea y’all had for the totes and explaining why you didn’t use the cross bar the other way. Looking forward to the 10K live. Keep up the good work. Strikehold.
HAY HEATH AND RACHEL, I'M GONNA GO WITH 235 LBS... NICE SPLITTIN' AND KILLER ATTENTION TO DETAIL. YOU ARE DEFINITELY LOCKED AND LOADED... AND READY TO WACK-EM AND STACK-EM. KEEP PUSHIN' ON GUYS AND STAY COOL... PEACE FROM CREEL CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO...
I was surprised that Easton made was struggling splitting some of them ones towards the end. I would say one of those rounds it’s probably about 160 pounds.
STRIKEHOLD Great job on those massive knotty rounds Hector! 😜 And it's always great to see Rachel 🐰 out helping you! I love that Axis. Congrats on hitting 10,000 subs! 👍You guys deserve all the best.
If you don't want to use the chain i sugested in part or whole why not loosen the bar rotate the top of bar twords back flush with the top and retighten then you can stack your totes.
Jimmie, I think what you’re saying is what John from FrickNJeep just did in a video last night. If so I’ll definitely be trying that method as I think it will work better.
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors I didn't see that I'll have to look him up because that first i heared of him. But it would be like recessing a handle on those storage boxes you can carry from top that lays done and still stack on top of each other. Ok I just check his out and yeah that would be the way to go and you can stack and by looks of it more ridged. But for any you have already made you can just loosen that bar lay it down like it's recessed in to and retighten.. I still like you to test how well it would hold the wood and how much compared to the old way every one does if you dumped it in loose by hand or conveyor..
I'm interested in trying Strike Hold. I guess the round to be 154 lbs. I am saving to buy a splitter and I am thinking about getting a vertical splitter versus a horizontal. So, I was very interested in what you thought given that you have several types. I am not going into the firewood business but I want a quality commercial splitter. Thanks.
Congratulations on the 10K subs! It's nice to see a family working together - not to mention the helpful tips and info. My guess on the oak round is 192. Have a great day!
It looks like it would be as fast to rip a round like that onto 4 pieces and than put it on the splitter. A lot less fighting a big round plus eliminating the injury part also.
Hello Heath and Rachel, my guess is 228 lbs. on that nasty round. Lot of work on that nasty grain. That strike hold looks like great stuff to have around. Have a great day! Cheers Woody !!!
Congrats on 10000 subs. Strike hold really sounds like something to have around. 223.5 lbs on the oak round. Heath your thought of safety on the axis or any other type of splitter, is a great thought. If it only helps one person, that’s awesome. We will never know that. We need to set up a think tank that people can ask question they might be having problems with. I know you’re thinking about it already. Off subject but I love your samari processor. I’d love to get my hands on one of those. Your nasty oak got split. A lot ended up in home burning needs. So what. Allen family firewood in Maine don’t know what to do with all his cookies and scrape. Hard to believe Phil can’t find people in Maine that wouldn’t want that scrap and chunks. Too bad he wasn’t closer I would just load up at Phil’s and stop cutting my own. Mark my words your suggestion on lowering the splitter to just above the wood is going to save someone from a nasty injury. Very fun watching and don’t know how I never ran into you and Rachel at Paul Bunyan. Later Take care.
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors get yourself a temp monitor inside or on your phone! 100% a must have in my book. You will never have to go out and “check” The boiler.
Strikehold and my guess is 273 lbs. on that oak round. If you find you need a little more protection from that bar across the top, you could zip tie a pool noodle on it. Just a suggestion.
New sub for ya! I watch a lot of folks that split wood and have sawmills. That round will be 250, I’d like to try some of that Strickhold lube. I’m a part time gunsmith, that would be a good test for it. Take care and stay safe.🙏✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great channel. Congrats on the 10k subscribers. Strike hold looks great. oak round 122 lbs. I had to guess 22 because it’s my favorite number. 5th grade basketball number.
Regarding the stacking issue with your new tote configuration, can you rotate the cutoff top rail 90 degrees ( flush with the top) and attach on inside of tote. Would that maintain rigidity of tote?
Thanks Dan, I was going to try that but I think John from FrickNJeep came up with a better way. It has given me another idea I’ll be posting as soon as I get it done.
Great video Heath and Rachel! 289lbs on the round you gave as an example. STRIKEHOLD… C’mon Heath, the best lubricant you’ve ever used?🤨😂 Thanks for posting and Bless’ns to ya’s, Tedd
HI THERE i left a comment but its gone , oh well .i just up grades the totes challange ha ha .just got a chance to run one of those splitters , dont tell anyone but i kind of liked it , john
John, didn’t see your other comment. Guess the ball is back in my court, let’s see what I (Rachel) can come up with 🤔
I'm glad you showed the Wedge and how to use it and lock in place
Thanks Carl.
strike hold 206lbs Another great video. I wish i could justify that Axis. Eastonmade is just quality and beast mode in one!!!
We love the Axis and Eastonmade is definitely a great machine and company.
Thanks for touching on a subject we hate to talk about. You two reps rent Strikehold great 🇺🇸👏🏻
Thanks Larry, we figure if it helps one person it’s worth the effort.

Thank you, and I agree! We burn all of our hunks and chunks! The Allen’s are definitely putting together a great system over there.
Strike hold sounds good. What does it cost normally on average
Jimmie it is a little more $ than say WD40 but imo there’s no comparison! It’s about $20/bottle.
The round weighs 212! Axis is the way!,
We love the Axis.
Checker plate wood allow it to slide but give it a bit of traction to hold in position. Better to be safe than hurt.
250 lbs.
Thanks Noel!
Hey you guys keep up the great videos! I was thinking about ordering the same Easton made
Thanks Stanley, we really like our Axis!
Boiler wood!!! Do you have your boiler up and running?
Not yet Alex, getting it plumbed in this weekend!
@@hardworkingmanoutdoors get yourself a temp monitor inside or on your phone! 100% a must have in my book. You will never have to go out and “check” The boiler.
@@AATreeService I’ll have to do that!
Heath I never heard of the Strike Force lubricant before. I definitely need to try it.
Bill, it is legit!
Strikehold and my guess is 273 lbs. on that oak round. If you find you need a little more protection from that bar across the top, you could zip tie a pool noodle on it. Just a suggestion.
Thanks Stan!
Thinking the oak round at 187 pounds?
Where can strikehold be bought
There is a link in this video’s description. I’ll try to put one here:

New sub for ya! I watch a lot of folks that split wood and have sawmills.
That round will be 250, I’d like to try some of that Strickhold lube.
I’m a part time gunsmith, that would be a good test for it.
Take care and stay safe.🙏✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you, the Strikehold is awesome stuff. I use it on my guns exterior but haven’t cleaned a barrel with it yet.
Never tried the Strike Hold lubricant. Guessing the Oak round to weigh around 290lbs.
The Strikehold works great!
I did the engineering calculations and I’ve determined that Oak round was really effing heavy!
I was hauling some tree service Oak. Freekin’ heavy…
Yes it is!!
Weighs about a 150 pounds Goods Splitting

Thanks Jay!
Round weight is 356lbs.
Thanks.
Hard working people. I just subscribed, my guess on the oak round weight is 349 lbs
