  • Happy #CelloTipTuesday, my dolls! I got a little nerdy this week and talked tuning and the 2 systems we see in Classical Western Music: just tuning & equal temperament tuning. At the end, I include some general tips to help you get started, ones you could even begin using today! Ever wonder why you have to lower the third in a chord? Why is matching a piano's tuning tricky? Or do you just LOVE music theory & sound waves? Then this vlog is PERFECT for you! The reason I really wanted to focus on intonation because...they'll be some exercises coming soon & this is great knowledge to know ahead of time! 💪🏻

    As an adult beginner cellist, I have already felt that intonation is a long, never-ending journey...;) Thank you for being my guide in this exciting journey :)

      Aww thank you so much! It's really important to me to take seemingly "boring/intimidating" topics and to make them fun and approachable, so that really means a lot! 🙏🏻💕🎻

    This is why I'm adding Frets to my 5 String Cello so that I can play in tune since I'm w/ a really Loud Pianist & the Piano they have is twice the Size.

    I call my 5 String Acoustic-Electric Cello "Mr Baritenor" cause it matches my Vocal Range.

      Hi Eli, thank you so much for this excellent suggestion! I absolutely LOVE harmonics and am so glad my fellow dolls are interested in them too, so I'll add that topic to my vlog list! Also, excellent ears catching them in the "This is Halloween" music video! 😊🎻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    They also have Fretted Cellos (up to 6 Strings) with geared machine heads & they stay in tune much much better this way.

      Very good point. I'm definitely hoping to invest in some geared pegs for Celli in the near future 🤞🏻! You can just buy the pegs and have a professional luthier attach them on acoustic cellos too!

Funny thing Double Basses always have these Tuning Machines & now they're available for Violin, Viola, & Cello (Gamba Family, Lutes, etc too) because they never slip & are held in by these screws.

      @@CelloDoll Those Tuning Machines for Cello are the easiest to install because they're held in by Screws. They exist because over the years Violin, Viola, & Cello players wanted to swap out the friction pegs with geared tuning machines.

    • @RockStarOscarStern634
      @RockStarOscarStern634 3 года назад +1

      @@CelloDoll That Cello I'm talking about is the Wood Violins Cobra 6 String Fretted Cello & it's ideal for every genre of Music. It's super easy to play cause you have Frets (keep in mind you play on top of the frets so that the string makes contact with it because they're filed down this way) to guide you along on all 6 Strings. On a 6 String Cello the 4 regular strings are in the Center plus you have a High E String on the Treble Side which moves the higher notes to an easier position & a Low F for some lower range. A CodaBow Joule for Cello (Dark Kaplan Rosin too) will work & the Boss Kantana Air wireless amp will work.

    I recommend swapping those Friction Pegs of your Cello out w/ Geared Tuning Machines for Cello & they do make them in synthetic:shop.glasserbows.com/product-p/xpp1vc4414set.htm & the cool thing about these pegs is that installing them is just as easy as restringing a Cello cause they screw into the already existing peg holes (this might also allow you to get rid of the Fine Tuners from the Tailpiece). These Geared tuners are just a tad bit lighter weight than Standard Friction pegs so they'll enhance the tone. The other Geared tuners look exactly like Upright Bass Tuners & they're open geared so they're fairly light weight & more practical. I'm afraid they'll have to discontinue all the friction pegs & just stick to geared tuners which are alot more modern & practical.
