Yep, as already mentioned it’s an ex UK registered bike. The mph speedo and the still fitted licence plate at the front are the clues. The ‘J’ indicates it was first used on British roads in 1971. Am looking for one myself. Great motorcycle! Regards from London, England.
Hannes PEller The alternator coil is simply dirty and makes a poor contact with carbon brushes. There is no problem to get the alternator polarized because you always need electric current to excite spark coil and if your wiring and voltage regulator is ok, alternator starts charging emediatelly.
Im not sure if i understood everything (german here). But if the engine didnt run for some time, the polarisation changes cause of the earth gravity field. Also if you switch the poles of the battery, it polarizes the other way round and if you switch it back, it wont polarize back. To polarize the field winding you have to push the contact on the right side in the regulator. But yeah, if it only was the alternator then i was wrong. Just wanted to help ;)
Hannes PEller Hallo my good friend. You are 100% correct about the polarity. In fact every old Harley I worked on needed the tap on the regulator to start charging. However I never did this on MZ, I simply thought BOSH somehow got around this problem. I still didn't get to my old trophy so if it won't start charging after cleaning, I may have to do exactly what you're saying. Thank you for suggestions and happy holidays.

Hello, is it for sale?
Wow from worlds ugliest bike to classic beauty. What a difference an age makes 51 little (hours) years!!!
Hey. The Mz didnt load the Battery. It guess its because field winding isnt polarized anymore.
