Honestly, I didnt expect this alarm system to actually work. But, it did and still does after more than a year of use. So I figured it was worth sharing. Have you used any of these cheap driveway alarms as well?
Ive had these for over 2 years many sets on my property..they are great. I've had them over 300ft and work like a charm for alerting us when the sheriff's and neighbors were creeping up.
Driveway alarm with bell mounted near drive way sensors .. when trespassers hear the alarm they will " self retreat " i have used these in urban environment , apt front door , apt stairs, apt balcony.. it has been very interesting to see good and bad people respond and "self retreat " , when they get the idea they are identified.
We have the Wuloo solar driveway alarm system. It will take 8 sensors. You can cover all cardinal and ordinal directions with it. It costs more, but if you get the 4 sensor system, you basically get the receiver for free. It can be muted, but the sensor number still lights up.
Ours has worked for a few years. Don't get the battery operated one though. Mine leaked in water big time. The solar ones though, no issues. Just a few days ago I ordered another solar one and will ditch the battery one that no longer works correctly.
Before the time of motion sensor beepers and such I would use that motion sensor from your flood lights and tie one of the lights to into a doorbell transformer and ran it to a doorbell next to my house. And now you can get motion sensors remote beepers at home Depot and even harbor freight.
Man, I wish I was back in the country where I would need a driveway sensor. I used to use motion sensing, solar powered lights which worked well - but of course, the deer would set it off... so it was of dubious value really. I just decided that the best answer was to just shut and lock the gate... that way, at least people couldn't drive down my long driveway.
@MagicPrepper yuppers. Jackery 1500 runs my local network if the grid is down. But my sensor receiver also runs on AA batteries or DC plug. Hence no grid needed. I assumed this model had the same battery feature... My bad.
I got a cheap solar one 5 yrs ago Amaz and still goin strong!!!!! Even under 2ft of snow in nov. Lolol even the cops didnt kno it was there and still dont. No not after me!!!!! Even my exhusband didnt ever kno about it either. I would turn it off when he was here. Yup deer and rabbits and even my bear or the neighbors cat and occaisionally bushes in the wind set it off!!! But you kno pretty much immediately whats what!!! I didnt bother with instructions. In rural mountains. It gets cold here. Has worked just fine.
It doesn't really have a charge indicator. Technically it's on the sensor if you hit the button, it will blink or whatever for battery indication. But it doesn't really work as it has no details as to what level charge it is at. So to test it, I more meant to just walk or drive past it and verify that it is setting off the receiver.
I've had the Dakota drive over tube one (just looked, they are up to $140 or so now) and it worked flawlessly for a decade on its first 9v battery (plugs in for the inside unit). Downside? Costs a lot and makes a racket every time the power goes out (different tone than when you drive over it). Upside? Great range and almost no false-positives. It will go off if stepped on or if someone goes over it in a bike, pushing a lawnmower, etc - but unless a deer steps right on the tube, you don't get alerts every time a dog, deer, etc goes by (and that would be dozens of times every night out here). I couldn't survive one with all the false positives, so IR lasers and motion sensors are a hard pass for me.
Good to hear that works well. Those are definitely nicer units but like you said, more expensive with a more complicated install. I've considered getting one of those as well.
@MagicPrepper thanks MP. Probably similar to radios. Depends on what's between point A and B more than anything else. Also handy to know the frequency they work on. Some more prone to interference than others. Thinking of using something like this for Urban security at the moment. I don't have my 40 acres and a mule yet
Are the receivers rechargeable? I am off grid so plugging them in for constant 120v AC isn't doable, but if rechargeable then I can recharge when I turn an inverter on or via my power stations.
Actually, I'm not sure this would work in a SHTF grid-down situation. Doesn't the receiver need house current from a wall socket to sound the alarm? I'm still buying one because they are real handy.
@ Thank you. I purchased the system you have. It was recommended by the RUclips creator creativity RV but mine still in the box I haven’t installed it yet!
Yes squirrels 🐿️ will tap out the 4 AA batteries. And it trained Lola BB to head to the door or window. The neighbor comes home after midnight, shines headlights into my cobbled hovel sounding the driveway alarm turning around on my lower lot. Have one mounted on a construction cone, up in the dogwood tree, telephone pole and another tree. The 12v plug stopped working
as long as it doesn't connect to the Internet and you aren't integrating it into your home network, this stuff is totally fine. maybe someone can be skeptical about Ecoflow and units like it. their whole app on your phone and wifi integration. why does a power bank need to connect to the Internet or your phone? that stuff is specifically designed for emergencies and it gets regular firmware updates from China. almost too easy if they want to sabotage something important to your survival. but realistically, they don't need to bother with that. if they can bring down the grid and keep it down for a couple months, they don't give a s**t if your consumer electronics work.

Every extra layer of security is good
@@evocati6523 agreed
I had a similar one that gave a lot of false positives, mostly squirrels, some deer, also goats
That is an awesome way to increase security without spending a bunch of money. Great video Magic Prepper😁👍
I was surprised it worked so well. Hence, I had to share.
Another great vid brother! Ive been looking for a driveway alarm, i am impressed with what youve shown, ill be getting one.
The fact that it works so well is mind boggling.

@@Falling_Down_D-FENS it's surprising how well they work!
@@MagicPrepper not much sun is needed either to keep them powered.. they have never died and don't require direct sunlight as most solar does

That's a good way to use these as well. They have a dog barking ring tone available which I assume is for this exact purpose.
Have one, works perfect for over two years!
Crazy right?

That’s sweet, I can think of other applications by doing the MacGyver thingy
Oh there are many applications indeed
I'm sold! Heading for Amazon right now!
I am surprised it works as well as it does!
I have them , 2 yrs minnesota weather...... work great
@@jimjim753 surprising isn't it?
@MagicPrepper i figured they wouldn't last the winter, 2yrs later still work like new, we'll worth the $
I have the owl off amazon . And it works great

I could see the battery ones being an issue. The solar hasn't given me any issues.
I ordered a driveway alarm from wish, I got a box of IEDs. They work good but UPS wont deliver here anymore. Lol
🤣
I got the Amazon owl driveway alarm that is similar and love them! Yes they are great!
Surprisingly functional aren't they?
I had the owl alarm and it died in 3 weeks. I'm going to try the one in the video
Have a nice end of the year. 👍
You as well!
awesome .... thanks
You're welcome!
I'd call it a knuckle instead of a nugget.
That is the word that was escaping me in the moment so nugget came out instead 😂

Good units. Doesn't need the grid to work.

Super cool. When you say you have to monitor the battery level yourself. Where is the charge indicator? Is it on the house thing or the receiver?

What's the max effective range from the sensor to the receiver/alarm?
@HeatGeek1 it says 1/2 mile but I've only tested to 400 yards or so.

Technically yes. I don't think they're meant to be used that way but they have a backup battery that will last 72 hours so I guess that would work?

Florida is really bad on any kind of solar powered things The high humidity gets moisture on the inside and they do not seem to last year
It is pretty wet over there
$49.99 now
I bet it will go on sale for cheaper at some point. They seem to cycle around those discounts.
These have a high defect rate.
I wouldn't doubt it but this one works well and I am sure returning a defective unit would be a smooth process.

If you have any other power options you could keep it going pretty easily as that backup battery still lasts three days.
You can run it off solar generators etc
Do raccoons set it off?
They would definitely. You can angle the sensor higher or lower to avoid certain things if needed but I like knowing when the critters come around.
