Pelvic arteries (internal iliac artery)

  • Like much of the anatomy in the pelvis, the blood supply is messy, complex and variable. Let's attempt to look at the arteries of the pelvis by following the internal iliac artery and its branches. If I try to reconstruct them with pipecleaners it might help or make it worse. Let's find out.
The internal iliac artery branches from the common iliac artery, moves into the pelvis and splits into anterior and posterior divisions. The anterior division is responsible for supplying blood to the viscera and gives off the superior vesical arteries, obturator artery, vaginal or inferior vesical artery, uterine artery in the female pelvis, middle rectal artery, inferior gluteal artery and internal pudendal artery. The internal pudendal artery has yet more branches, including the inferior rectal artery.
The posterior division sends branches posteriorly to the muscles of the posterior abdominal wall and back.

Our PA school has gone entirely online for the rest of the semester and we can't go into lab any more to do the dissections in person... Your videos have been a lifesaver, thank you so much!! Perfect timing too, as we're covering the pelvis right now.

Not entirely. We're can go outside for exercise and to buy food, can't be in groups of larger than 2 outside, and the university is closing down more tightly now. We're indoors almost 24 hours a day now.

    Hi Sam
I am Dr. Rucha, physical therapist.
I teach Physical therapy students in India.
    Love ur Anatomy videos...
Would love to watch some more anatomy videos of pelvis and lower limb.
Also, is it possible for you to show anatomy on cadaver specimen?
If yes, that would be a great learning experience for me and my students.

I just wanted to thank you professor, for doing this work, I’m a Iranian student in Russia and I’m watching all of your videos and they’ve been really helpful to me, wondering if you could put them in order according to the systems? For example the videos about organs of respiratory, digestive... and so on. Anyway thanks again, you’re the coolest anatomy teacher

Note. In the artery, an atherosclerotic cholesterol plaque is located around the perimeter of the vessel. Long, soft, elastic. This is not an atherosclerotic cholesterol plaque. it's just a cholesterol plaque. it is inside the vessel and can be easily removed from the vessel. This cholesterol plaque has no description in the medical literature. It depends on the spasm of the vessel. Formed in just 1 week of a strong nervous experience. It is not associated with smoking, eating fatty foods. This cholesterol plaque has not been studied. She is to blame for the occurrence of acute heart attacks and strokes in just one week of stress.

Sam. While you're in isolation and hopefully have some free time, could you help me figure out an anatomy injury that I have? No doctor has been able to fully figure it out and I'm struggling for my life because of it. I'm not ready to die... I was hoping with your vast understanding of anatomy, maybe you could help me figure it out?
