Dr. Patel’s talk resonated with my experiences as a blind person. I became blind over 40 years ago. I had very few role models back in the 1970’s to look Il to but I always had a vision about how I would live my life. I decided I was going be as independent as possible. I too was hesitant to ask for help but I started to realize some people really want to help and there was no shame to ask. The role my parents played also resonated with the speaker’s experience. They didn’t try to steer me in one direction or another. They were, however available to support me in whatever direction I decide to take my life.
