That was a lovely enjoyable video thank you. Bicycle touring has a way of engaging you with the countryside or indeed any environment much more than a car or even a motorcycle I think. That video was 11 mins but I could have watched it for hours. I am looking forward to more like this.
Thank you CJ. It's great hearing all the history of these cities and towns. This gives me a chance to see different parts of the Province of Ontario. Looking forward to day 2.
I can’t wait to see where the roadways take us this time. I’m excited for another bike tour and this time I won’t ruin it by binge watching every episode in one night.
Hey CJ, Those large birds are actually turkey vultures. You can tell them apart from other large raptors like eagles and osprey because their wings form a shallow "V", or semi-dihedral when soaring. Enjoying your videos.
Thanks! Your comment made me really curious. As it turns out, we're both right. "Buzzard" as I referred to them, is just another word (perhaps ised less commonly) for Turkey vultures!
Really enjoyed your video, makes me want to tour round there myself. We're still in lock down here in the UK but we are allowed out for exercise so I've been enjoying lots of cycling on the almost traffic free roads these last 8 weeks 😊
I primarily chose Brockville as my starting point since it receives frequent Via Rail service. Years ago when I've used it, their train service was extremely convenient for bringing a bike on board. Essentially you just arrived a bit early, paid a fee, they gave you the option of a bag or a box for your bike, and they handled it from from there. Unfortunately when I was getting ready to make my booking for this trip, I learned that most of the trains on that line no longer have baggage cars, which means you are very limited in which trains you can take a bike on. As I recall, I would have needed to wait to take a train which left on Sunday rather than Saturday, and didn't arrive until Sunday evening. It basically would have shaved 2 days off of the entire trip on the front end and likely the same on the tail end. The other disappointment was that their policy for recumbents is such that the bike would have needed to be almost entirely disassembled to suit their requirements. It made me realize how spoiled we are to have GO Trains in the GTA which make it so convenient. It's a shame Via Rail doesn't operate more like GO Transit! I also looked into Greyhound which operates service to Ottawa, but I found their website and call centre staff extremely unhelpful. They also would have required that my bike was fully disassembled and boxed up, but they couldn't answer my question as to whether or not their Ottawa bus terminal has any bike boxes in stock that I could load my bike into at the end of the trip. Needless to say, unfortunately I don't have any positive recommendations about how to get yourself and a bike to Eastern Ontario.
You're close, but not quite that early. The American Revolution didn't begin until 1765, and prior to then there was no such thing as a "United Empire Loyalist" :P
Glad to hear! There are definitely no rules against swimming in the Rideau River. There was a dock right near where I camped that I could have jumped in, but I decided not to. It was actually kind of chilly that day. I remember that in the sun it felt warm, but in the shade I felt like I needed to wear my jacket.
You definitely might want to take a closer look at the map and also pay attention to the part of the video where I said where I'll be riding in episode 2 lol
cjhoyle well I know you’re gonna be heading all the way east as your primary objective. You’ll be brought back along the coast of the St. Lawrence River once you get to the Long Sault parkway. The Long Sault parkway actually crosses the St. Lawrence River through a few islands that are situated on it, and there’s even a bike trail on the side of the road where the greenery is. P.S. I was actually predicting that because I cannot wait for Day 2 to be released!!!! Can’t wait to see it!!!!!!!!
Just noticed your blog. Great editing and historical commentary..Thanks a lot.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Please keep posting, CJ. Love you videos!
Glad to hear, thanks!
Hi CJ I enjoy all your videos because you like to smile and you like to enjoy your trips.
Haha thanks. These trips are my vacations after all, so if I wasn't enjoying myself then I must be doing something wrong!

Absolutely. Riding a bike is a really great way to familiarize yourself with an area and also a great way to spend a vacation. Thanks!
Thank you CJ. It's great hearing all the history of these cities and towns. This gives me a chance to see different parts of the Province of Ontario. Looking forward to day 2.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! For the most part, Ontario was settled from east to west, so Eastern Ontario is very rich in history.
Hi CJ, thanks for such an entertaining and original set of videos, can't wait to start my own touring! Keep safe and keep riding.
Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying them. Best of luck on your own tours!
Stunning! That reminded me when FM radios were the thing in 1980s/90s. Love your tours!
Thanks!

haha thanks!
I love Brockville. Your commentary was really informative. Thanks :)
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Brockville is great!
I was looking for biking trip idea in Eastern Ontario and here I am hahaha!
Enjoyable as always!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
As usual c j, you have the most interesting videos. The Canadian countryside is beautiful. Thanks for doing this!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Nice ride.
Thanks, it was a fun day!

Thanks! Eastern Ontario is a nice place to ride, I really enjoyed my trip.
Glad to hear the camping fee is appropriate.
Lockstation camping is incredibly inexpensive. The only downside is that most of them do not have showers available nearby like this one did.
how did you reach brockville? did you take a train from toronto or did you bike all the way there and leave that part out of the video?

I believe a lot of southeastern Ontario was settled by the United Empire Loyalists in the early to mid 1700s starting from Port Hope and farther east.

@@cjhoyle sorry about that, my bad. I need to brush up on my history a bit lol.
I really enjoyed day 1 of the trip. You didnt go swimming
heraldo2881 you can’t swim in the Rideau River, I think that’s probably why he didn’t go swimming.

cjhoyle and I am guessing you will probably cross the Rideau River on Day 2 of the trip when you leave Burritts Rapids.
You definitely might want to take a closer look at the map and also pay attention to the part of the video where I said where I'll be riding in episode 2 lol
