    You must know that they actually forced by agency to do so. Like shinee members the manager will give each members foods differently. So it's not like Hollywood artists or singer in US. And every trainee will get checked by agency (their weight). So yeahhhhh.... Basically for agency the Idols are product that must be perfect. Sometimes they even have to eat secretly from the manager. And fyi it's not just like 1 or 2 agency to do so. It's like the majority of the agency in Korea are like that.

      @robynbrowne1277 Месяц назад +2

      yeah but think of why the agency do it. if an idol has gained weight who is first to criticize them . fans. now i'm not saying the company isn't to blame for having unrealistic beauty standards. but think about who are they making these standards for. for eg jeongyeon of twice was ask to leave the group because of her weight. people questioned joy of red velvet weight because of an unflattering dress she wore once. some fans are just as equally to blame as company's

    in kpop there are MANY dark sides. But in my opinion it isn't just the company forcing these diets and unhealthy beauty standards. half of the blame goes to fans. cause fans will be quick to tell an idol they gain weight or look fat. and weight is just the ones issue. sometimes it's skin, face, lifestyle. it isn't being and idol.

    And although it's often more extreme for female idols, a lot of male idols are also following strict diets and overworking themselves. It's a very deeply ingrained industry wide problem unfortunately. It makes me so uncomfortable when groups go on shows and the members who are in visually the best shape get praised for their dedication when in reality they're under eating and WAY over exercising... I often think of kpop idols as the ballet dancers or runway models of the music industry, lots of similarities in the toxicity of the industries and the beauty expectations they're both influencing but also suffering under 😮‍💨

    I get what you guys mean about Karina and exercising a lot. I think the reason why people think it’s damaging is because of how unrealistic it is to suggest you can gain and lose weight like that in one day. Also, some people with eating disorders binge eat (eat a lot) and then over-exercise, which is an unhealthy habit. Hope that clears it up!

    As a society, I'd say Koreans have really high beauty standards. Some would even label it toxic. For one to be an idol, they do consider beauty as part of the package. As trainees they have to meet quotas or else they could never debut. I'd say the fan culture definitely contributes highly to this. Although some fans really want their idols to prioritise their health, the second they start looking heavier, some fans + haters comment a lot of disgusting stuff that obviously get in the artist head. All of these layers just puts so much pressure on these artists to look a certain way.

    It's crazy because we shower the negativity whenever we hear about these things but then pour on the positivity when they look "perfect" on stage and in music videos. So the mindset shift needs to happen on both sides of the stage. We can't make articles about certain kpop artists gaining weight and then slam them for dangerous diets.

      THIS THIS THIS. and its not a kpop issue the west makes these topics a kpop issue its a korean society and culture issue and most kpop fans don't like it but we have no say as we're not korean and non korean media should explain and research in full to report properly on the issues instead of painting narrative and generalization. and report on the idols, celebrities and labels who are pushing to change this in kpop as well as the activists and beauty companies changing and adapting to healthier mindsets. it's gonna be a slow process that many koreans and asians in general will reject but the west should report on the progress as well. and the root causes instead of focusing only on kpop. what about actors what about models what about athletes what about TV announcers what about how to get a good job or accepted into college so many korean kids are GIFTED plastic surgery on their 18th birthdays from their parents. it's never been a kpop issue its always been deeper than that. and English/western media focusing on kpop just pushes western people away from consuming kpop. but if they travel to Korea they'll see its in all aspects of the culture as there won't be larger clothing sizes found anywhere in the country. or if they watch the dramas they'll see similarities with the kpop industry its not a vacuum. its in every industry and every part of korean society to the point they're comfortable pointing out if their classmate or colleagues lost or gained weight. in regular school and work places nothing related to kpop.

      @@grateful_fear2155 so you're saying when they are on stage looking all perfect we should then show hate?

    • @grateful_fear2155
      @grateful_fear2155 Месяц назад

      @@bpistherevolutionsince2021 I think we both know that I'm not saying that. But to clarify, we Koreans are way too keen on image (physical and reputation). The idea of "imperfection" is trauma-inducing. There's a musician from the 1st generation named Kim Gun Mo. This man went through hell because the public LOVED his music but was considered "ugly". But now he's considered a legend. We as fans can't do anything to change the ways of the kpop industry but we can change the way we love our idols. As unpopular as it may be, we can learn to love our idols and judge them more on character than physical appearance. I'll support my favorite artists regardless of their weight as long as they are happy and healthy. Perfect for you might be 20 lbs heavier in comparison to the opinions of the fan next to you. Which unfortunately is why there are people who do show hate. But a lot of these companies do put these unrealistic pressure on their artists because there are fans who show hate when their favorite artists aren't built like an anime character. I call them dumbasses but whatever.

    Being east asian is insane. You'd have grandparents stuffing you full of food then there's your parents and other relatives saying you look like a whale while being less than 100 lbs. The society is also very toxic and some standards are just ingrained too deep in the culture. Healing when you're in that environment is difficult.

    The way this video is framing things is not a holistic or an integral take I won't lie. I am confused as to why they are framing it as the idols promoting a disordered way of eating and viewing food when it has been shown and admitted by idols that their managers and company usually have a weight quota for the idol. Many of the idols that share their experience with eating and weight always reiterate to their fans, especially the ones shown in this video, not to follow what they are doing and that it's okay no matter what body shape you have.
    To frame it as the idols promoting this way of eating when it has been shown in videos, managers staring down idols and behind the camera forcing them not to eat too much makes it feel like victim blaming.
    These idols are disclosing what's happening to them and can't control the media and fans that will bury them in hate for gaining weight or having a more curvaceous body type. So they always take care to remind fans, especially both Korean and International fans not to follow their ways because they're not idols.
    The interviews mentioned and the specific comments that were picked out...I wish they'd given the whole story and context rather than trying to frame what they are saying as 'weight loss tips'. There's a difference between advising and informing. ❤

    7:28 even tho karina was exercising it was still unhealthy and even an eating disorder. She would eat a big amount of food in one sitting (binging) then would exercise to lose the weight she would gain by eating big amounts of food (purging). She was binging and purging which is NOT healthy. Also, trying to lose the weight your gaining in a day is also unhealthy
