MSX2(V9938) vs MSX2+ (V9958) Space Manbow (スペースマンボウ) comparison

これ、背景描画にPCGを使いつつスプライトの横方向同時表示数を稼ぐためにSCREEN4を使ってるんだよね。
激ペナもそう。2+との違いはサイドをマスクしてるだけで実装は同じ。

To be fair, MSX2 scrolling is not jerky, at least in this comparison.
I have tried covering the leftmost and the rightmost columns of the MSX2 part of the screen with my thumbs, and I could not find any difference between the top and the bottom parts, at least in how smooth the scrolling was.

To my untrained eyes, it looks like the V9938 just has the side bars coming in and out where the v9958 doesn't allow them to show, which makes the image appear slightly cropped.

Indeed, it simply sets a viewwindow over the screen or perhaps it has extra sprites available which ares used to mask those borders.

​@Booruvcheek Now that I come to think about, I think this is just a simulation and not real footage from the systems because how could both games be exactly synced to where all movements are exactly the same both in the horizontal and vertical movements?

セットアジャストスクロールはmsx2＋も同じなんだけどね！マニュアルに書いてあるみたい！端をマスクしてるだけかな？

これ悪質な嘘説明だよな。VDPの違いが出ているだけ。MSX2+版もハードウェアの横スクロール機能は使っていない。

What is the difference graphically, I can't see any difference? besides the tiles in most left and most right. but I guess you put a "crop" on the MSX2+.

You're right. There is no difference in graphics with msx2+ because it was originally a game made of msx2.
Of course, the notable part of this video is scrolling.
