    I always forget this episode isn't a double. It definitely feels like there's enough story for them to make it a double feature over two episodes. On the flip side, how many bad SG episodes are there really? We can allow one or two to be a bit rushed lol

    They knew better than to ask if the ZPM had power because they knew he didn't have the technology to confirm if it did.

    The search and find ZPMs for Atlantis plot device is an ongoing theme throughout the series. You'd think there would be some storeroom in Atlantis where the Lanteans kept spare ZPMs or at the very least one or two emergency ZPM's but if they did we wouldn't have the OMG the ZPM is almost depleted we need to find another plot device to enjoy on occasion..

    • @darnell2000
      @darnell2000 5 месяцев назад +7

      The writers did have a plan for this. The ZPM's are made in like another dimension or something because there is a risk they could blow up, so that strategy keeps Atlantis safe. Atlantis has the gadget to access the other dimension where the equipment to make them is, but they never knew to look for that.

    • @rccraig7580

      @@darnell2000 So that would explain why the Asurans ( replicators ) seemingly had a very abundant supply of ZPMs to power their version of Atlantis. I guess it would have been too simple to search the Atlantis database and discover the actual method of how ZPM's were constructed still though very interesting that a powerful power source was created in another dimension.

      Not really a stretch that after the hundreds of years they had been under siege by the Wraith their stores would dwindle. Also considering what the Wraith want with the ZPMs the Lanteans would probably try to destroy as many off-world ZPM stores as possible before they could get their hands on them. We don't know what goes into making them, for all we know Atlantis doesn't have the manufacturing-capabilities to make them, or they simply didn't have the raw resources to make new ones, it's also Quite possible that they had plenty of them but took all their stores of ZPMs with them when they departed for Earth. Their original plan was to just evacuate, if the original plan hadn't been altered by Weir and Merlin the city would have been flooded and uninhabitable a few hundred years later, they weren't planning on going back so no need to leave anything of value behind.

    Colm Meaney (Cowen) is an acting treasure, also famous for his roles in Star Trek the Next Generation and Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

    Cowen is played by Colm Meaney. He played in Star Trek: The Next Generation as Miles O'Brien and then Reprised the role again as the main character on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He plays a great bad guy in SGA but he plays a really great good guy in DS9. I can see where he kinda looks like John C. Reilly though.

      You are correct that O'Brien is the main character on DS:9. The Federation would have lost the war if he wasn't stationed there.

    I do absolutely enjoy this episode. So much story condensed into one episode, and such a satisfying turn of events. And I love how the nuclear explosion gets hit against the gate's shield.

    This has probably been already mentioned but, if you ever miss Stargate and want to check more from Ryan Robbins (playing Ladon here) and, of course, Amanda Tapping, check out Sanctuary!

    21:00 Well the only way they could know if the ZPM had power was if they got their hands on it. They had to take the chance to get another ZPM. I don’t think that’s bad writing at all. Also, the whole point was to trick you into thinking Laden was lying about the coup all along, which is why they didn’t trust him and decided to double cross him. So I don’t think that’s bad writing either.

  • @nickcollins5191

    I could be wrong but I don’t think I there would have been any point Rodney asking if the ZPM still had any power as I’m sure they need to be in a ‘slot’, or you need Lantean technology to check. Now you could say they they could put/rig together a system to check, but don’t forget that iirc the Genii are 50 years behind technologically. Plus, the whole point was that Laydon had defected and taken it with him on the way out, but it doesn’t mean if the Genii had had a system to check the ZPM power levels, he would know that information

  • @TheDanEdwards
    @TheDanEdwards 5 месяцев назад +2

    The Genii never sat well with me. Really awkward way to force an antagonist that can take the role of the Earth-bound antagonists on SG-1. It was never explained how there are so many human worlds in the Pegasus galaxy, and of course how they all speak English. The Genii are just a mash-up of various antagonists in many TV shows, based on military enemies of WWI and WWII.

    • @Axt3r
      @Axt3r 5 месяцев назад +4

      Will you people ever stop with the "how come everyone speak engleeesh" bit

    • @TheDanEdwards
      @TheDanEdwards 5 месяцев назад

      @@Axt3r Maybe it troubles you when people point out how poorly written so much of Stargate turned out? The Stargate franchise just freely stole/borrowed from previous TV shows. So the Stargate writers never bothered to ask themselves the hard questions.
      Again I ask: why are there so many worlds in the Pegasus galaxy with humans, and humans that act like 20th century Americans?
      It's such an obvious question and one the Stargate writers never answered, because they never could be bothered to write a cohesive fictional universe.

    • @Axt3r
      @Axt3r 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@TheDanEdwards why the peoples of different planets aren't culturally distinct enough is a completely different and fair question, compared to asking why they all speak English, which is clearly a practical consideration

    • @TheDanEdwards
      @TheDanEdwards 5 месяцев назад

      @@Axt3r Language _is_ culture. Always thought this was SG writers' biggest failure - understanding culture. All the technobabble is nonsense but TV shows have always done that (see Star Trek). But the SG writers wanted to have other humans too much like contemporary humans on the show.
