  • A Weasel hunting down and attacking a Bank Vole in Uskmouth, Newport Wetlands. The speed of this animal is unbelievable, in fact it looks as though the video is on fast forward!

    Why do people put a 'dislike' to the natural world?
    They are probably the one's who expect humans to intervene with nature, rather than filming it.
    Great footage. Shows nature in action.

      I have no idea Tony. My average before this video attracted so many views was over 95% ‘likes’, now it’s in the 80’s. I don’t know why, as you say maybe they don’t like to see nature in the raw.

    • @LPGexpert
      @LPGexpert 6 лет назад +1

      I wouldn't worry about it. We now live in a world where so many people are so naive when it comes to what actually happens in the natural world. They don't seem to realise that animals kill animals in order to live. But, because you film this natural world, they expect you to step in and stop what nature intended. Can't understand them myself.

    The weasel is the ultimate predator. It's insanely fast both running and swimming, it climbs very well, it has a bite force that animals 3x it's size don't have, it's absolutely relentless, it seems to have unlimited stamina, and it's small, aiding it's stealth in both creeping up to prey and staying unseen from larger predators.

    • @johnluk
      @johnluk  6 лет назад +1

      Morte Parla
      Very true! I saw one on Monday running between two clumps of Common Reed - Phragmites Australis - with a vole in its mouth - much too fast for me to react!

      Cat is a natural predator. Weasel second.

    • @johnluk
      @johnluk  6 лет назад

      They are both ‘natural predators’ but a cat hunts by stealth and a well-timed leap whereas the weasel will chase its prey down using speed and stamina. It can kill prey much larger than itself whereas a cat usually hunts prey smaller than itself so if you scaled up the cat’s prey to match the size of a weasel’s prey it would be taking down something the size of a deer!

      @johnluk  2 года назад

      Thank you so much SkylarkFields. Sorry about the late reply, my alerts haven't been working! Yes, I was amazed at how the Weasel managed to carry the poor vole. It put up a fight but sadly no match for the predator. The capture was a fluke. I saw the Vole moving and started the recording, then realised why it was moving so erratically when the Weasel appeared: it was moving as though it was on fast forward and there was no chance that the vole could outrun it. It's a good job they are prolific breeders as they're the main prey for Weasels and Barn Owls round here. I've even seen a Hobby take one and they usually feed on Dragonflies!

      I have never done ‘voice-overs’ so it would be unknown territory for me and I’m no David Attenborough but maybe it’s something I should consider in the light of your concerns.
      I terms of accessibility having subtitles is going to be more helpful for deaf people and bearing in mind that only about a half of my views are from English first-language countries I think some of them will prefer to read as when I’m watching news on Spanish TV, which I sometimes do to improve my Spanish, I find it incredibly helpful to have subtitles.

      Desculpe Edison, eu teria respondido anteriormente, mas, por alguma razão, o RUclips achou que sua postagem era spam e a ocultou em uma pasta separada chamada 'provável spam', eu apenas a vi agora e a 'aprovou'. então agora eu posso responder. Muito obrigado, meu amigo!

    Extremely lucky. to capture that naturally. Myself I have seen a badger in broad daylight. In Cyprus on our hotel complex two snakes came together from nowhere and mated. It was like dance routine. That was a once in a lifetime experience. It was over very quickly.
    Nearly forgot. I also picked up a grass snake which excreted that horrible smell. What was so rare about this encounter was that it happened in December.
    Would love to see a weasel or an otter.

      You've had some great unexpected encounters Emma! Yes I was very, very lucky to see that when i was really there to hoping to record Bearded Tits, Cetti's Warblers, Cuckoos or Marsh Harriers.

      @@johnluk Surely this encounter tops any bird spotting you do? I live in Sussex so get to see some great wildlife while hiking. I can imagine bird spotting can be addictive. It hasn't gripped me though. Saying that on one walk on the South Downs I spotted a large bird just in the air not moving.
      I later found out it was a Kestrel and it is the only bird of prey to be able to hover like that I believe. It was a beautiful sight, shame i didn't have a pair of binoculars at the time. For me I often have snake encounters which I really enjoy. This excites me which is odd I guess for a woman. It's mainly adders I see. I hardly ever see grass snakes and I have never seen a smooth snake.
      Spring is nearly here and I love it.

      @No-Knickers-Emma You’re right Emma it is addictive and I’m finding the ‘stay at home’ requirement very difficult because I love to travel to the coast or mountains, both about 15 minutes drive. The thing I find so interesting, especially in the Spring and Autumn migration, is you never know what might turn up, it’s like unwrapping a present. We’ve had a Green Heron from the southern U.S., a Snow Bunting from the Arctic, a Rock Thrush from Iberia and many more interesting visitors. Well interesting if you’re into that sort of thing 😊. My best bird video is this one, which like the Weasel was just a lucky sighting,
