  • In a change from our usual programming, I check out some resin aftermarket sets sent by Reskit. I check out their detail, price point and compare them to the kit parts they are replacing.

    Robbie, the review was helpful, but the thumbnail led me to expect to see a heli rotor too.

    I was building a 1/72 Italeri Mirage 2000D and used the Res-Kit engine exhaust and Magic 2 air-to-air missiles. The exhaust section was extremely well done. The only problem I experienced was that there were know instructions and it was not obvious from the parts where the casting block ended and the flame-holder in the exhaust began so I was unsure where to cut them apart. That was a problem for me. The missiles were great and even had tiny holes for "pins" on the photo-etch fins which made construction a breeze. No butt-joints. It was actually better from that standpoint than the GBU-12 from Brassin that I also used on the model. I have other of their sets and think Res-Kit is great.

    Great review Robbie. I just purchased a bunch of stuff for the 1/48 Zvesda Mi-24 Hind and am totally blown away by the detail.

    Remember me from that comment about shrunk Eduard Brassin parts? With Res-kit all have been positive experiences. Their F-16C exhaust for the Tamiya kit is leaps and bounds over Aires and Eduard in detail with 3-dimensional resin afterburner rings, what's more they're perfectly sized. The Eduard brassin set the resin is shrunk, the afterburner rings are 3 layers of PE which although offer good detail it still looks flat. The Aires set that replaced them the resin is good and fits the kit but the PE for the afterburner is a single layer and even flatter detail than Eduard. And after I got the Res-kit one I know which one will go on the Tamiya model.

      The SU-34 stuff is mind blowing. I can't wait to use it

    Great review Robbie - I've got their new full set for my Academy CH-53E Super Stallion and I've finished their tail rotor which went together almost click snap like! The only downside was the PE brass was a little underdone, I'll replace that with a slightly thicker styrene part, but this only take 1 off a 10/10 score. I can't wait to get started on the main rotor next...cheers Chris

      You definitely will see some later on. The Sea King hits the bench in April

    Hows the best way to get those huge bases the parts are attached to off?

    • @TheModelGuy
      @TheModelGuy  2 года назад

      Usually a saw or cutting disk on a rotary tool

    I got their product for f-111 at it was of poor quality.
    They said it was a faulty Item and sent a replacement later which was not any better.
    I spend a few days on the engine nozzles yet it was never what is should be right out of the box

    These ResKits are upgrades to the kit, better than the original kit parts?

    • @TheModelGuy
      @TheModelGuy  2 года назад +1

      100% they are. Their 1/32 engines for the Hornet are pieces of art.

      @@TheModelGuy Thank you, I did not word that well, but you answered my question. I wasn’t asking if they are any better. I was asking what they are; better upgrades or just replacement parts. Sorry for the basic question, I’ve been on a break from plastic model building since around 1980 with Dad! I saw some friendly Apache AH-64D Longbows up close and personal and it was a moving experience! ❤️ Meow I must build one or two!!!

    Like this idea of a review series. Can't say I have a load of resin experience but now I have a DIY spray booth for ventilation and a respirator it's definitely something I want to get into.
    On a different subject could we see you do an airliner sometime? Zvezda do some lovely kits, their 767 would look great in Canada Rouge (resin wingtips needed) or their 787 in the new west jet scheme... Alternatively BPK do a 1/72 737-800 which I want to build once I'm not a student and have some money I could justify spending on a kit!

    • @TheModelGuy

      I'm open to ideas and have been looking for a 757. That's my favorite jet liner ;) but not sure who makes a decent one.

      @@TheModelGuy Zvezda are releasing a new mould 757 this year. I'm getting 2x (or maybe more...!) as it's my favourite too, sat in the cockpit of a BA757 when I was a kid and flew on an Iceland Air one for uni field work so kind of want to build one's that mean something to me.
      The TUI livery is attractive or the old United metal ones look fab.
      Whatever you do don't get the minicraft one, I built one and it's the worst fitting kit ever.
      Open to building a 757 at the same time as you really, would be nice to compare experiences.
