I homestead on a very small scale. By myself. I have some health issues that prevent me from doing stuff some days. And other days i can do absolutely nothing. So i get you. Homesteading is a lifestyle. I feel like there's no completion just the next fire to put out. Let negative comments pay what theyre worth. NOTHING!

I very much respect and admire you, Nyssa. A bush block would be so challenging for homesteading - so much work! And ... managing chronic health issues with six kids as well - I can't even begin to fathom how you manage. I'd like to say, I can listen to your "squirrels" easily. You mentioned you have trouble finding words, but you are so articulate; your speech flows very freely, and you're obviously highly intelligent and creative. With some other RUclipsrs, a half-hour voice-over puts me to sleep. You keep me hanging on your every word! Please don't let nay-sayers affect the content you create - they're everywhere right now, and they're obviously very disturbed and sad individuals who need to find another outlet to manage their issues.

I'm thick skinned which is lucky hehe, Darryl avoids the comments because he struggles, but mostly I can just shrug things off, but I do sit there and think, why, why would you make that kinda comment a lot hehe.
I think the Aussie bush definitely impacts a lot of things in the 'homesteading' sense, there's more and different challenges added on!

As a suffer of trig neuralgia and a wife of a husband who had a serious mental health breakdown I 💯 understand how life is! And you have 6 kids to look after and homeschool. You and everything you have achieved is amazing! I love that you keep things real and show that life isn't always sunshine and roses! Also talking about chronic illness and mental health is creating a voice for health issues that often people cannot see so therefore don't understand. ❤❤

I’ve been in my house for 24 years. It needed massive repairs when I bought it. But the location and the land made it worth it to us. I’m still making adjustments and changes and upgrades to it. 24 years later. It takes money and time. It also takes knowledge. Sometimes baby steps are the only steps you’re able to make. Try not to let the ignorant people bother you. Keep moving forward. My dad used to say that the only way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. It may take years, but it will get done. When my father in law lost his license to drive, we took his truck so he’d stop trying to drive. That was 9 years ago. He passed away 5 years ago and because he never got the title we have not been able to get rid of it. No one will buy it without the title. No one will scrap it without the title. We’ve tried to get a replacement title and an abandoned title. One thing or another has prevented that. So we have an old, ugly, beat up, non running truck in the driveway. It’s hideous. I hate looking at it. But what did I do? People don’t know your circumstances. It’s easy to say what someone else should do, how they should do it, etc. everyone is an expert on other people’s lives, but their own are what they need to concentrate on. Ignore the ignorance the best you can. I’m also bipolar. Life is sometimes a struggle. And anyone that doesn’t deal with mental health has no clue how hard life can be to navigate some days. The internet has created a vile society that for some reason feel they have the right to say whatever ridiculous crap pops into their empty heads. Everyone starts somewhere and we never know what’s going on inside other people’s homes. People usually only put the good on the internet. We need more people to be real. I love that you’re so normal and relatable. I appreciate that you are honest and not pretentious. So keep on moving forward. Don’t let life get you down. You have created a beautiful life. It may need to improve, but most of us live lives that need to be improved too. Are we going to be able to get things shipped to the USA? I really want a family tree for my mom for Christmas.

Hey Nyssa I have followed along with you for a long time and want to say thank you for keeping it real, not sugar coating the ups and downs and showing your reality of living off grid with a large family who doesn't have a huge disposable income. There is a saying that "Comparison is the thief of joy" and its so true. There are many people in our country doing it so tough, what you and Darryl have managed to achieve is absolutely amazing and I'm sure you have inspired and given hope to many by showing what youve done so far. Homesteading/Farming is often one step forward and 2 steps back especially when growing your own food and raising animals, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature and thats out of our control. Keep moving forward, keep sharing content and block out that negative white noise 😊🌻🌞

Hi, I am someone who just ‘popped in’ to your videos to listen to your story. I feel so sad and at the same time super empowered and validated by your journey. As to people making negative comments , all I have to say is that they are not in your shoes.
I have fibromyalgia, Hashimotos and other health conditions myself. I live alone, with no children and live in a small space. Yet, I find it so very difficult to manage pain, work and maintain my space and live at a very basic level without including people or having any responsibilities for other humans in my life. So I cannot imagine how you prioritise every single task, per person/animals, maintain a property, manage your finances each day and maintain relationships - being a wife/partner, being a mother and trying to have your own creative outlets, building social media content that is not only for your joy and pleasure but also helps other people.
Keep doing what you love at a manageable level that is good for your health. Thank you for sharing your journey.

For folks who desire perfection, they must have a massive disposable income, and never built a Homestead from scratch. For those of us who live on a tight budget and we have what we need, but budgeting is a necessity for survival. As a mom we frequently put our needs, including our health, last. But it eventually will require our attention. You have done an incredible job 👏 doing all that you have. I absolutely love your video's, especially your chatting with us.😊

Wow. It sucks you felt the need to explain yourself. Living off grid takes a special person and family. I couldn’t imagine not doing things on my time. When I feel motivated to take on a project I take it on. It’s obvious y’all work extremely hard. The fact that you’re keeping yourself, kids, animals and a garden alive off grid is amazing. I can’t even fathom having that many projects going on at once. Making dinner everyday for my family of 3 feels overwhelming.
I too have bouts of high blood pressure so I hope you get yours under control. I can’t believe you’re able to have so many things health wise going on and you keep chugging along.

Especially after years of these drugs. Felt better but still need them.

Nyissa when I heard you going into details about your health issues I immediately thought why. Answer is trolls…I.e negative people. Everyone has unique circumstances. You are amazing truly. You feed your children a very natural balanced, homemade diet. You go over and beyond. Your stamina and energy is to be applauded. Please remember they do not experience your circumstances you do. I just wish I could do half as much. Of course if we could we would, no ones place is perfect, unless there’s a team of gardeners, cleaners, cooks and others. You are a true Australian, doing the best you can under adverse conditions. Ignore them, don’t let them in your head, block them, they have no empathy. We love you for who you are. I love seeing slices of your life. But remember it’s your life not theirs. I bet they don’t achieve even a quarter of what you do. Keep on doing you girl, 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏾🤘🏼💋💙💙

I so hear you, we have an ongoing kitchen remodel that has been in the works for nearly 20 years or so now, and all that has happened is that I accumulated the materials (countertops, lumber, and cabinet doors that came out of my dear departed husband's parents' home, made by his oldest brother, who was a talented woodworker and cabinet maker - and lots of other materials.) It all leans about in the room that I want to move my tiny kitchen into.
So far the only other thing that happened is we moved the fridge, table, and microwave into the kitchen-to-be, which used to be the old original living room. Then Hubs got cancer and passed away.... lost a lot of momentum there. Then our daughter got MS and is living in the former NEW living room, (can't climb upstairs to her old bedroom!) which it took us years to create from our old bedroom, after building on a new back bedroom for just me, now, sadly. The former new living room is now basically a bedroom again, with the new porch and new front door off of it. I have no living room!
And there are always things that need done before OTHER things can get done, it's endless. Plus, now we don't know what to call the two rooms - it was "old kitchen" and "new kitchen" - now it's back to just "kitchen" - where the sink and stove are, still - and "the fridge room", haha!
As they say, life is what happens while you're making other plans! (((hugs))) ♥

We need more people like you showing what real life actually looks like. You do so much in your life. You are living off-grid, which is a full-time job in itself, whilst being a mother, school teacher, carer, homemaker, gardener, farmer, vet, chef, breadwinner and the ‘family rock’. You make RUclips videos, deal with nasty comments, and still commit to making regular content for those that love you and love watching what you make and do. I also live by the mantra of ‘progress, not perfection’. You are kicking goals, even if you think you may not be, sometimes. All my love from a fellow chronic illness sufferer xxxx

Hun I'm so sorry you dealt with pain. And you have both been through so much. I have chronic pain too it's hard to be hit and miss with life. But the videos you do are wonderful and so are you. Anyone who thinks you need to do more just look at the thumbnails you work really hard and thats just a fraction of your life.

Nyssa you do an amazing job. I'm so sorry you're in pain all the time, I know what that's like. Don't listen to those people who comment thinking their way is superior to yours. One foot in front of the other is progress, one bite at a time instead of looking at all the things to be done. You and your family are awesome, thank you for sharing your life with us.

There's so much I want to say to you - first and foremost the people who criticize are (a) jealous (b) miserable and (c) are living in their parent's basement and have never struggled or built something from nothing. You should be proud, Nyssa. You and your family are inspiring. What I've learned in my 52 years is you'll never be "done" with anything - and who'd want to??? Learning, creating, and changing is the spice of life. I'd love to be able to do what you do. I wasn't joking when I said you need to offer the "outback experience" aka make people pay to do your work and eat your delicious food! LOL. God bless you and yours. Don't change who you are, we love you for who you are - authentic and genuine. ❤

You do more than most can and it’s amazing to watch you work in the kitchen! 64yo and I could never see us cooking on a 2 burner or using a grill as a oven! We look forward to every visit from you and you have really made follower out of us! Thanks and keep them coming!

You’re a kind hearted person. You have a right to your privacy and no one watching your videos need a play by play as to how, when or why you do what you do. You do what works for your family and theirs is the only opinion that matters. I love your channel because of your unique content and because I quite enjoy seeing how people homestead/garden in different countries. I always learn something new and/or interesting.
I would be extremely stressed if I worried about the comments of strangers. Especially of those who aren’t contributing to my wellbeing. I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself and please try to keep your external stressors to a minimum. Good bless. 🌸🌿🦋

Hey Nyssa! I know it’s hard to deal with your illness and be a Mom and a wife along with everything you do day to day things. I can really see so much success on your property. Both of you are amazing parents and now days few parents could do all that you both do have done and sacrificed to reach as far as you both have. Give yourself a pat every now and then. Take your time and do things as you can, your health is way more important. I love your fan club 🐧🐧🐧🐧🐧🖐️hello guys! TFS!!!❤

We live in a world now of instant gratification. If you haven’t got it, don’t wait just go buy it. Homesteading isn’t like that-at all! Homesteading is a slower life, using what you have, addressing the needs as they needed. This is how you address your life. Anyone who doesn’t understand this shouldn’t watch your channel, much less comment upon it. Ill health certainly impacts your ability for massive progress but be proud of what you have achieved as an individual and as a couple and as a family! I’ve gained so much inspiration from you. I can’t homestead as much as I’d like but I’m doing ‘enough’ . Enough to complete my life. Enough to slow my life so I enjoy the small wins and nature’s joys. I have MS and some other bits and bobs so I struggle daily. Nyssa you’re amazing. Don’t let anything caste that shade over you!!

Fabulous video! Just you telling it like it is.... perfect! I think you both are inspirational! All you do with cooking, building, gardening etc as well as 6 children and ill health! I had my 5 year old grandson for a week and was struggling to do what i wanted to do. Some days i gave up, you dont! I love seeing your progress! We are very much like you guys, 3 steps forward, 2 backwards usually! Things going wrong or breaking at inconvenient times, and then trying to get someone to come out to fix it! I love watching you because I get you! The negative comments we receive because of our life choices just makes me more determined! Its a bit of a stuff you attitude! Stuff the negative comments ... they're petty minded people! Take care of yourself, so many watching you are gunning for you!

You are way too hard on yourself! You are amazing! PLEASE don't let negative people affect you! There are so many crazy, negative people who verbally attack others because they need to feel better about themselves! You know you are doing everything that is best for you and your family!!! The things you described that are going on in your family right now is absolutely NORMAL!!! I could relate to everything you said and anybody that says they haven't dealt with these same issues are either lying or in total denial! Be your beautiful, smart, amazing self!!!

Hi Nyssa, of all the youtubers I watch, you are the most humble, honest, worts and all realistic content creator. People who post negative comments are just bored individuals who dream of having slices of your life and therefore look for anything to fault for Ahole reasons that non of your avid viewers care about! I live in the suburbs and dream of property life but until I can turn my dream into reality you have taught me how to bake, preserve, cook, turn pork belly into bacon. So so many things. Bleep the negatives You are as real as they come.

I’m so mad with myself right now that didn’t have my notifications on to see when you posted. I just finished watching your Q and A from over a year ago. I have just found your channel 2 days ago. You could say I’m kinda on a binge. 😁
Honestly, I’m loving just listening to ya while I do things or even while I’m putting my 1 year old to sleep while trying to keep my 3 older ones quiet. Haha.
It’s more authentic with your rambles. I love to find more Aussie YT creators. I can relate more to you compared to the American YTbers that I watch. Take it is. Just enjoy it all.

You make some very good points Nyssa, especially not comparing yourselves and achievements with others. There are far too many varying factors at play - size of family, health, terrain and climate you have to take into account - to justify any disparaging comments. ( to even comment negatively is the height of rudeness anyway!)

As someone who has a large family and tries my best to grow what food I can… it’s not easy. There is always soooo much to do. I don’t have any animals and I still struggle with time. It’s just hard, there’s always more that can be done and a lot of the time, only a small portion actually does get done. Please go easy on yourself. Your journey is so different to everyone else’s and you should only ever compare yourself to yourself.
