Thanks for your interest. We plant two seed potatoes about 2” or 50mm from the bottom (for main crop spuds) and fill to the top with compost. For early varieties you can put two in the bottom and half fill the pot. Then put another two in and fill to the top. Keep well watered and bingo. I planted seed jersey royals early in the spring and from two similar buckets got 5 1/2 kilos of spuds and every one was absolutely yummy…my second ones just after summer only gave 1.5 kilos and was disappointing.
Unfortunately my own potato crop was decimated by blight. Grandpa did much better than me. (He had a good teacher though, obviously lol) Sounds like you did very well with your first crop. Keep up the good work.
I’d have to say watering. Keep them moist and never let them dry out. At least while the leaves are still green. You can ease off once the tops die off. I’ll be doing another potato experiment video soon exploring how they respond to different fertiliser. A higher potassium fertiliser should form better spuds. Thanks for your comment.

Fresh potatoes are delicious too. Good for Grandpa! I hope he reuses that dirt for the next batch.

Good crop what variety
I believe they were Maris Piper.
What's the secret to growing big potatoes in pots other than variety?
