    Beautiful restoration! My first motorcycle was a used Yamaha 305, back in 1973 when I was a high school junior. Really liked the bike. It was very ridable and forgiving, unlike my next bike, a Kawasaki H1 500 triple. Thanks for sharing your excellent work.

    This was my second bike. My first was a 175 cc Puch, so the 305 was a big step up. It was super reliable, I took it on thousand mile trips. I even road it through the cornfields to get into Woodstock. The power band was a trip, when the power came on it felt like you were being rear ended. My friends had BSA’s, Triumph’s that were constantly being pushed home. It couldn’t compete with the Honda CB-350, my third bike.

    Nice to hear that sound again after 50 years. It was my second bike after a Honda Trail CT90. Bought mine at a San Francisco dealer for $700 in the winter of '68. Traded it in for a Datsun 1200 pickup in spring of '69 when a fifty-mile commute to see a girlfriend on weekends got too cold and wet. Loved that bike!!

    Brings back the old days. Loved the sound. Too old now to ride. Sure enjoyed the video. Now ride a big ass quad Can-Am 800 with four wheels. Rode bikes for almost 60 years. Sure miss my old 305 Yamaha, 305.Best sounding bike ever..

    Mine was a royal blue. Bought it from a dealer in 1967. Only had 375 miles, owner traded it back for a Triumph Bonneville. Paid $610 bucks and my dad made him through in a helmet. Top speed on a flat was 118 mph...did I mention I was a stupid kid ? Was a great machine.

      First time I ever did the ton was on the 200cc version, a bit later than this - I think mine was a '71. Awesome bike and trouble free. Loved it.

      Me stupid kid. Had mine up to 105 with cord sticking out of the rear tire. Drunck as a skunk. I have since stopped riding bikes. Have a 800 cc Can Am Quad and still nuts but more careful these days Soon 73 and still will not stop as long as there is pair of handle bars.
      Dumb as shit, had the quad up to 105-110 on the hwy. and started to float and still more to go,

      My dad bought me a 1967 305 just like this one except it was candy apple red for $350 in 1968. I loved that bike. I was only disappointed that the top speed was only 80mph. I tried everything I could think of to get it to go faster. It would go 80mph in 4th gear at 8000 rpm or 80 mph in fifth at 6000 rpm. It may have been just a matter of advancing the timing more or putting in bigger jets. I thought it should have went about 100mph. All I did was take the baffles out, take the air cleaner off and adjust the carb needles. I made slight changes in the ignition timing but I didn't know how to set them properly. It didn't go one bit faster. If mine would have gone 118mph I would probably still own it.

      @@jnbfrancisco He did not go 118 on his. Top speed for these bikes is probably 95 max. Probably only 90 for a normal sized person in good conditions.
      Sustained speed over time probably only 70-75.

    In 1981 I bought a 66 and 67, both for $40 bucks .. Got the 67 running strong, the 66 was for parts if needed .. The kick starter was stripped along with the foot shifter lever, so I would have to bump start it and shift it with a pair of vise grips ..!! That bike always started and never left me stranded ...!!

    I also had a 1966 YM1, I did lots of port work and got the clutch set-up from a YM2C 305 that had aluminum cylinders, the clutch was removed from the crankshaft and moved back to the transmission side, the clutch was much bigger and was much stronger. With the port work and 250 Ascot flat tracker expansion chambers it felt like it had nearly double the power.

    305 cc version of the YDS-3 really didnt know it existed. Oil injection made these so much more acceptable and user friendly... then the pre-mix YDS-2. Lovely .

      @bluestripes1 2 года назад +2

      the tachometer is connected to the transmisson on these old models, when you pull the clutch lever in the tachometer drops to 0, thats how they were designed
