Thanks for sharing the video. I need to build one of these cabinets this weekend as a Christmas present for me :-) Great save on the split board - stronger after the repair. Nice technique to assemble the doors.
Hi thanks for the video very useful, I'm looking to take the idea and build one for LG 65UN71 4K tv very slim for a shared lounge area, any advise would be greatful thank you!
Thank you! It has been a while since I made this, and I made it for a friend so I haven't actually use it. But, the one thing people seem to comment on is the weight. I used pressure treated wood, which is heavy, so you may consider using something else if that will be an issue. I have a little more information on my design on my site if you have not seen it. www.johnhamerprojects.com/projects/tvCabinet/index.php
It was built for a 50 inch tv, but the exact dimensions can be found at the link below. The biggest issue will be finding a wall bracket that is small enough to fit behind the tv and still let the doors shut. www.johnhamerprojects.com/projects/tvCabinet/index.php
nice build, but I couldn't understand why you trimmed the box as a unit as opposed to trimming the 2x6's individually on the table saw before assembly. That might be a little safer way. Either way nice job.
Well, I have been meaning to go back and watch the video to answer this, but I haven't had a chance, so I'm sure I either was correcting a mistake or worried about the corners being perfect. Ill give you a better answer when I get a chance to watch it.
Hey Lawrence, the cabinet is made from pressure tested lumber. I have details on the size at the link below. This was made for a 55 inch TV. www.johnhamerprojects.com/projects/tvCabinet/index.php
This cabinet does not protect against the weather. It is more for decoration and security. I don't know if the guy I made it for keeps his TV in it all the time or not. You would need to use your own judgment. An outdoor tv would be ideal.
It's pretty heavy, like 70 or 80lbs. Pressure treated pine probably wouldn't be a good choice if you're worried about weight. The guy I made it for wanted to stain it to match his deck, so I made it out of the same type of wood.
The frame is pressure treated 2x8's and the doors are made from 6' pine fence pickets. I'm going to make some drawings soon and put them on my website. I'll post a video when I do.
Very cool cabinet. Simple but nice!
Thank you.
Lot of wood !!! good build..
It is a lot of wood haha. Thanks
Nice build. Thank you for sharing your skills.
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
You just helped me so much people thought I was crazy
Well built... but damn it must be heavy!
It is pretty heavy. But it is what my friend wanted. It's not too bad. It's screwed to the side of his house in his covered deck.

Awesome! Good luck with your build!
What’s your material list with material sizes
Links are now in the description.
Are the links still active? I keep getting an error saying I can’t connect to the server
Hey Jim, I have been having issues with my server lately. I just reset it. It should work for you now.
Thanks for the video
Im gonna build one myself
Awesome!
I wish I could add a picture it turned out great. Thanks for the video!
Stupid question- would this protect it from rain and or snow?
Na, it was installed under a porch.
How would you recommend hanging this on a vinyl siding wall
I'm probably not the person to ask, but I would screw through the back of the case into studs with some lag bolts.

That's absolutely awesome... I wish I had those skills... I wish I could CashApp you and get one built..
I wish I had the time to build things for people HaHa. Thank you!
Do you have the material list with sizes, i'm planing to build one also for a 55" tv
I just update the video description with links!
What's the material size you used . What size tv will fit inside the cabint
It was built for a 50 inch tv, but the exact dimensions can be found at the link below. The biggest issue will be finding a wall bracket that is small enough to fit behind the tv and still let the doors shut.

Jesus that must be heavy.
It's not light haha
How did you mount it to the siding of a house? Did you just drill right into the siding?
It was mounted on a porch with a roof and it was mounted to the posts that hold the roof up. I don't know how I would mount it to the side of a house.

I see, yeah, I expected the boards to be the same width, but after screwing them together, I realized they weren't. So, I was correcting a mistake.
Can I get google on amazon fire tv ?
Yup
Hey John what size is the this tv cabinet? What type of wood are you using? This is a great looking Enclosure...
Hey Lawrence, the cabinet is made from pressure tested lumber. I have details on the size at the link below. This was made for a 55 inch TV.

Over kill on the 2x6 boards
Yes, you wouldn't need 2×6 for strength
Does this really allow for use of an indoor TV, under a porch, outside?
This cabinet does not protect against the weather. It is more for decoration and security. I don't know if the guy I made it for keeps his TV in it all the time or not. You would need to use your own judgment. An outdoor tv would be ideal.
Do you have any o the pics of it mounted?
No, i made it for a friend. Next time I go visit him I'll take some pictures.
Estimated weight of the cabinet?
It's pretty heavy, like 70 or 80lbs. Pressure treated pine probably wouldn't be a good choice if you're worried about weight. The guy I made it for wanted to stain it to match his deck, so I made it out of the same type of wood.
Is this under a covered porch area, or exposed? How well does it keep the rain/water out?
It is under a porch. I would not use this for an indoor tv in an uncovered area.
What kind of wood is that
The frame is pressure treated 2x8's and the doors are made from 6' pine fence pickets. I'm going to make some drawings soon and put them on my website. I'll post a video when I do.
thanks but material looks too heavy.
It is heavy. Using a different type of wood would fix that, but cost more.
@@JohnHamerProjects I just built this and it’s 98 lbs. Trying to figure out the best way to safely mount it.
@@juanmendez4649 the guy i built it for screwed through the back directly into studs. It's mounted to the side of his house under a porch.
Nice cabinet. What would be the best way to mount this to a brick wall?
