Hi! I’m Nellie.
I’ve been teaching math for over a decade and 4 years ago I left the classroom to tutor math one-on-one.
I specialize in building a relationship with my student so that they’re comfortable when I’m identifying their unique learning challenges. Besides, when I get to know them, I can customize my math curriculum and approach it with their strengths, goals, and interests in mind.
I don't focus on grades or perfect answers. I encourage my students to take risks, make guesses, and learn from and correct their own mistakes. We celebrate effort and persistence, and boost academic confidence!
Many of my students had fallen grade levels behind their peers and were struggling. Some are neurodivergent learners with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia AND are not academically in sync with their age group. I explore ways to engage with math concepts from a new direction, and bring my students up to their full potential!
I love math, art, and storytelling. I paint and play dungeons and dragons, and that gets into my teaching and helps me connect with learners with creativity, imagination, and fresh perspectives.
