I entirely agree that both medtner and scriabin are phenomenal composers whose scores are so incredibly dense in brilliant musical ideas. So, dense in fact, that it takes brilliant (or better) pianists such as Trif here to even approach the music, as you say.
But to one who choses an eponymous screen-name here, to argue such balanced appraisal is like putting up cheesecloth to sail the ship... For most of the rest of the musically un-worshipful, the question becomes not one of what "brilliance" it takes to approach-but whether there need be much of an approach at all. :-)
Yet, sadly, Medtner's mature music is rarely that memorable either, even in the most 'catholic' music lovers appreciation. The similarity with the sainted Charles-Valentin is in the vast amount of interesting yet second or third tier accomplishment when compared to those of greater compositional genius. That link and Mr Hamelin are indeed touchstones... But there IS gold amongst the dross, and we are in a fortunate age to be able to hear much that was hitherto obscure or forgotten.
Well, we DO live in a day where many minor composers have been 'rediscovered' and are given an occasional airing...and a very worthy thing too! But even anointed ones like the Trifinator can't make them into major genius's... As for the dense, actually often opaquely so musical idea's; far be it from me to suggest fallow note spinning amongst the occasional fertility..tho' in listening to Medtner the name of Allkan seems to always come to mind...

And, of course, Medtner demands the upmost perversity from his listeners. I'm sorry to disappoint you there! watch my mosolov video as far as your filth goes, i still haven't seen more of it as I so kindly asked...we don't want to bore 705 now, as he doesn't have too much time left on this earth

Maybe you think about the relation because Hamelin recorded both and you for some reason do not have the proper brain plasticity to undo random associations. Alkan is a wonderful but clearly is not so similar. Medtner's mature music is rarely overtly virtuosic or programmatic or pictoral, for instance.
are these arguments all due to the black holes in classical music of our era created by modernists' experiments? notes are lost in pauses; or, all suburban grass brush strokes fed on genetically modified supermarket food. yearning for blackberry shrub sprouted in untended backyard, small ugly delicious strawberries from alps hills; better yet impala or buffalo meat snatched from lions. once needed impressionism to find colors? need: bold strokes; back to nature-n-basicsism. communal composition?
