Thanks man I enjoyed making the rear bracket. I used a handheld plasma cutting torch and some 3mm stainless plate. Drilled on the radial drill and folded to shape.waffle waffle Lol. 😁. It's good to get the old radio back out. it's still working fine.
Nice one Patrick yes it's still holding its own. I put a new rotary encoder (vfo) a few years back and it feels like a brand new radio. Can't wait to get out playing 😁
Good luck Simon , keep the videos coming , I always enjoy them , I have a day off tomorrow so it can rain as hard as it likes , I will be mobile on 20m, first thing in the morning beside the River Stour in Manningtree, noise free , pure bliss , I’m bringing the 7300 for the water fall, I have the Yaesu FT-891 but the 7300 showing zero noise and strong signals always looks lovely , almost as good as your Yaesu home base , all the best mate 👍🏽
@Patrickjdee66 sounds like a good Friday. I will be out mobile also, your setup sounds good as does the location. Can't beat a good location and a decent mobile setup it's quite often better than back in the shack. Have a good one good DX
Thanks Aeron. You're Icom 706 is very similar to my FT-100 both from the same era. Both were the dogs doo daas and still are brilliant radios. The prices are going up as well lol. I have had this one in lots of previous vehicles and always loved using it. Get your Icom /m and you will be loving the results. Mobile HF especially 20m is awesome 😎
I remember back when you had your FT-100 installed in a Car and you made Calls during your Ride to work. You had a 2E0 Callsign back then if I am not mistaken. Holy Mother in Law, that long ago....🤔
Hey bro! 😊 I forgot you had the 100. I had one too. Great to see it's still working..... really good at that. Congrats on the contacts 😊. It's a wet, yucky day here today. The lads say hi. Oh, in the current issue of QST Magazine, there's an article about Raisa. ☺️. Hope you and your ladies are doing well. My ladies are busy back to work in school. Talk soon. 73 from your bro
Hi Bro and everyone your side. Yes still working well. My first videos back 2006 have this FT-100 in them. I keep most stuff lol. This one has the original box, I think its better than the 857 apart from the separation kit. The 100 kit is too expensive and rarely available. That's the main reason why it's been on standby. The ft857 in the van separation kit is cheap as chips and it was easy to mount. I had to get my thinking head on to come up with a mounting method for the ft100 in the RAV but it worked out nice enough. 73 have a great day I don't get QST but I get Radcom
I have a FT-100 - there are a bunch of factory mods you might want to do and read up on. Mine is kinda funny - got it at a ham fair and after I noticed I couldn't use the entire 2m band I found it's a Japanese model :/ - still works really well.
Great little radios, this one I got in 2005. It is an original FT-100 mk1 fully opened with no problems. I did have a dry joint on the board abort 10 years back but good ever since the repair/clean
I remember buying one of those 100D’s new years ago, only sold it a few years ago too, loved that little rig. Bought a few Moonraker Ampro’s to play with from the ripon rally but they look way too big to drive with especially on my van. 😂 I’ll look into these shorter ones. Thanks
It works well I have been out and about again making plenty of QSO with it. I had a few Ampro. They work well but no good for driving. These are a bit more expensive but permanently on and good for driving. I didn't realize you were only over the hills in Ripon. I can get into the Ripon repeater on 145.625 it's about a S 3-5 at my end. I spoke to a guy in York last week when I was on Otley chevin. I was on the BAOFENG straight into the repeator. I might catch you sometime 👍
@@M0YKSHamRadio I am unsure about the Ripon repeater but Richmond GB3IR is easily opened with a antenna up in the air. It is a bit of a crappy area for VHF south of here.
Uz haz more YAESUs than uz LOLCatz Simon.. Like the FT100 I have one but for 3 not 20 years, did a few minor repairs on it and changed the battery widebanded it etc.. nice rig as you show here.... I would check the battery if it starts going weird BTW! M0XJA
Nice job on the fabrication! Good to see the ole Yaesu back on the air!

Still looks like a modern radio Simon , they are like fine wines, they mature and always deliver

Excellent stuff, I've got an old 706mk2g that I used for the first time in ages today and I'm considering putting it in the car .

Lol yes I have a few. It keeps it interesting. I changed the Rotary encoder and its been good ever since. Decent radios especially mobile
Another great video Si. Is that an Ampro antenna? I have ordered one from Knights too for 10m. 73s M7BBH
Thanks Katie. It different to Ampro they are much longer and not suitable for driving. But they put out a good signal so you will like it.
